Deal with this: I #respect Cam as a person and as a leader

Isn’t training camp all about competition? That seems absurd to just hand over the job just because he is a likeable guy. He’s played well in training camp though, We’ll see if BB goes old school and sticks with the vet or does the Brady thing again? Either way I’m ok with it. Mac’s day will come. Maybe week 1? maybe week 5? Or maybe 2022? In the meantime if BB sticks with Cam and thinks he is the best chance to win I’ll support the decision for 4 weeks. If he falters you bet your season tickets I’ll be calling for the new guy.

Great leaders jump on balls in superbowls, not back away from them. Great leaders do not make excuses. Great leaders do more than smile on the sideline. Cam playing nicey nice is good and all, but great leaders find a way to win despite the odds.

Great leadership is about living by a set of values over a long, grinding effort and puts the community being served first. It has nothing to do with single split second decisions. That's the fantasy stuff of movies, not of real life.

Meanwhile in TEN, seems they have a full blown outbreak on their hands, starting with the QB:

This is poor leadership from the QB, IMO. All he has to do is take a vaccine that millions have taken and his team would be in a far better place.

This happened last offseason with the Titans and all the league insiders said a gigantic punishment was comimg but then the league backed off because they aren’t the Patriots.

Perhaps relevant:

I think NFL's hands are tied to a great degree by lawyers and unions. TEN can say we're following the guidelines and protocols and still getting outbreaks, it's not our fault.

Personally I hope BB is taking note of all this and deciding he can't be held hostage by an unvaxxed QB, but that could be problematic legally.

Good point. I’m thinking they also want to avoid another bitter fan divide like Kaepernick/kneeling.

I really like Cam as a person and think he’s a tremendous leader on and off the field. He dresses cool too, not that it matters (unless he thinks it does.)

I feel like there isn’t enough appreciation on this forum for Cam as a non-football player. After all, football is just a silly game, and in the big picture, there are serious things like the ebola virus and inequality.

What I’d like to see from Mr. Kraft is a statement of solidarity from the Patriots by declaring Cam the starter for the entire 2021 season.

Again, there are things more important than football, and Cam exemplifies this. Unlike many of you, I was willing to brave everyone’s criticism and call out Aaron Hernandez because some things are more important than winning. What I’m saying might be unpopular and controversial, but you can’t silence me: what Hernandez did was wrong.

I'm sure Can Newton is thrilled

Someone refresh my memory - do vaccinated players still have to quarantine if they test positive? Or do they just not test for it?

I believe they need to wait at least five days, and have 2 negative tests within 24 hours of each other, before returning.

For unvaccinated, I think it's five days even on a negative test, if you've been potentially exposed, and longer than that if you test positive.

One of the big issues I see in the NFL's policy is about contact exposure if you're unvaccinated. Seems like another way for them to make an example of all the unmarketable scrubs and make them into a front page headline, while any star player will be deemed to not have been in the same subjective, eye witness based contact exposure zone. Zero difference between this and all of their case-by-case player discipline decisions.

Meanwhile, in TEN:

I used to work at a high end restaurant down in Tampa when I was in college and still have a friend who works there. Apparently about 20 coaches came into eat last Thursday night and were served my multiple servers, two of which, tested positive for Covid a couple days later. Since it is Florida and the restaurant is ran by a bunch of rednecks apparently they do no testing and let the employees come into work if they feel fine. Obviously this is complete speculation but kind of a random connection.

Couldn’t disagree more.Cam Newton is a talented athlete who only cares about himself. He sucks as a leader, and I have no respect for him in that role. He’s done nothing to earn the support of Patriot fan yet he believes we owe him loyalty, when he shows none to his teammates. I can’t wait for his release, the sooner the better.

I know some hate the idea of Mac learning from the sideline...

This will be the best, will definitely think of Ivan's red blushed face when Cam starts week1.

.

Leadership is not about following the herd.
Newton has already had the virus. Given that, and given that "THE SCIENCE!" currently claims that natural immunity is as good as, or better, than the vaccine immunity, it's asinine to require Newton to take the vaccine.

So, again, instead of blaming Newton, aim your ire in the proper direction, which is at the NFL.

And "hurt the team"? Are you high?
You have said that leadership is not following the herd. That is certainly correct, a leader should become educated and informed about what the best route to a worthy goal is, and lead toward that educated and informed goal. Gaining actual knowledge about how to reach the goal is the opposite of following the herd.

Deus, I like reading your posts. I find them frequently insightful in many areas, especially football, but also other areas. You are quick to call out those who speak without having expertise or knowledge in what they are talking about. And that can be useful and informative.

In the copied post, you speak authoritatively about the “THE SCIENCE!” of COVID and the vaccine and speak of how asinine it is to require the vaccine given that “natural immunity” is as good as, or better than, “vaccine immunity”. I have to ask: Is science in general and the science of COVID and vaccines specifically something you have expertise in? If so, could you provide a scientific explanation of your statement that isn’t the type of anti-science following-the-herd misinformation that seems to becoming so prevalent?

Cam Newton is the greatest quarterback-leader-person combo of all-time. There, I said it.

Tomorrow I‘ll write a lifetime letter to Mister Kraft demanding the team signs Cam to a lifetime contract in the role of Character & Leadership Director, filling in the sorely missed work from Jack Easterby.
