Makes sense. One IRS rule is that ICs can set their own hours while employees show up when instructed to do so at certain times. i.e. game time and special events.......

Why do they even have cheerleaders still...Games I've been to they are a total non-factor.

Good ruling, the 1099 economy, is bullsh.t. I have no problem with businesses using true independent contractors but the effort to claim everyone as an independent contractor is disgraceful.

I assume that you mean "wrong strategic move on the cheerleaders' part to pursue this" rather than "stupid ruling"? Because the ruling seems like a slam dunk.

The core definition of an independent contractor is that the payer cannot control how work is performed. NFL teams control absolutely everything about how cheerleaders perform their work.
