Can we root for Mahomes now?

The funny thing though is Mahomes could triple his amount of SB rings but he'd still be behind the GOAT. Amazing.

He’d be the GOAT at that point with 6 as he’d nearly have all of Brady’s records. The one SB differential won’t mean anything. Mahomes is on pace for 800 TDs if he plays until he’s 40.

I don't think they like it as the rules have changed to favor QB's. Even Brady wouldn't have been able to play passed age 35-38 had the rules never changed. Brady has even said the rule changes have made it way easier to pass the football and defenses have dumbed down.

I don’t see evidence. Most QBs in the 80s played until their mid-late 30s and most QBs in the 2010s did the same. I had a list a few years ago and it was pretty consistent with the exception of Brady. Montana played until age 38, same as Elway and Marino. Moon was 42.

Rodgers might play to 40/41. Brees played to 41. Pretty much every other star QB was done before 40 and usually closer to 37.

Montana just whines because of the major injury in 1991 where he missed two seasons (was benched the second season.) That wasn’t the norm and it’s not like we saw missed prime years from Elway, Marino, Kelly, Moon, Fouts etc. **** happens. Roger Staubach spent four years in the Navy and wasn’t given the starting QB job in his first SB (probably would have won.)

Don’t worry he’ll torpedo all NFL QBs by age 40

I don't get how the rule changes helped Brady play longer. There were plenty of QBs, past and present, who played under the same rules and didn't come close to playing until age 45, let alone play so well at that age.

LMAO... the "lording it over the GOAT based on projecting all future years to imitate one officiating-aided SB and one earlier one" guy is back.

I never rooted against Mahomes. I rooted against KC. Mahomes was just a biproduct. That being said the amount of hype he gets is insane. Not that he doesn't deserve a lot of it. He is one of those rare guys that actually has that 'It' factor. My only complain about Mahomes has consistently been i haven't seen the steel in him i'd like. I question his leadership a tad. A great QB needs to walk the line between being one of the guys and management/another coach. Mahomes hasn't done then yet. While he is still young he isn't THAT young. He's 27. This last year was his 6th in the NFL and 5th year starting. But he seems content to just be one of the guys at least from my POV.

It kind of fits his school yard play style, but I was disappointment to not see him step it up. No excuses not to. He is a veteran in NFL terms and should be the leader on that team, but he never feels like it.

That being said the proof is in the puding. Mahomes is one of those special QBs beyond just being a HOFer. He will no doubt end up on the mt. rushmore of QBs when all is said and done. He was FAR too early put in a debate with Brady, and that was held against him espcailly hard here. All fan bases are defensive when their well loved players are disrespected. But with his second win already in the bank, it's hard to imagine him not getting at least 1 more before he's done unless injuries hit him hard.

I don't mind in have a new top dog this decade. But man, it's already annoying to keep hearing about Mahomes.

I'd embrace him more if it weren't for KC

Mahomes can't beat Brady in games that matter.

Upon further review... I think the OP deserved less criticism for asking a decent question. Can we root for Mahomes now?

IMO the best response came from @BobDigital, who touched on the team aspect more than the player and criticized the way Mahomes is fawned over. That last part influenced me more than it should have and got me to dislike otherwise decent players, like Rodgers.

The only teams that I'd actively root against would be the Ratbirds, Indiots and any team that has a chance to catch or pass the Pats in SB wins. I actually have a semi-soft spot for NJ and KC after they stopped the NFLers in their tracks in SBs 3&4.

I have a hard time believing that any player will match Brady's 7 individually. Nobody will play long enough or well enough to come close. Hell, many teams will never catch Brady in their entire history.

Mahomes is doing just fine in his first 6 seasons compared to Brady. And remember, Brady went 9 years after SB 39 in not winning anything. Even then, it took a boneheaded call by Pete Carroll not to run the ball on the goalline to secure Brady's 4th. @1960Pats

Super Bowl Victories: Brady 3, Mahomes 2. [edge - Brady]

Super Bowl MVPs: Brady 2, Mahomes 2. [tied]

AFC Championship Games: Brady 3, Mahomes 5. [edge - Mahomes]

AFC Championships: Brady 3, Mahomes 3. [tied]

NFL MVP Awards: Brady 0, Mahomes 2. [edge - Mahomes]

-can't believe that Brady only has 3 NFL MVP awards lol. He's 3 for 21 in that regard.

All-Pro Teams: Brady 1, Mahomes 3. [edge - Mahomes]

Regular-Season Record: Brady 58-20, Mahomes 64-16. [edge - Mahomes]

Passing Yards: Brady 18,035, Mahomes 24,241. [edge - Mahomes]

TD Passes: Brady 123, Mahomes 192. [edge - Mahomes]

Completion Percentage: Brady 61.9, Mahomes 66.3. [edge - Mahomes]

Interceptions: Brady 66, Mahomes 49. [edge - Mahomes]

As you can see, through six seasons, Mahomes is beating Brady in just about everything.

Mahomes is definitely off to a fast start. He's the hare.

Brady was the tortoise.

Bad analogy. This isn't a race to be the first. It's a race to be the most accomplished. And, in that story, wasn't the tortoise slow but consistent? Brady got off to a fast start, slowed down considerably with zero titles from 2005 to 2013 (a period of 9 years) and then picked things up again after 2014. But if we are talking about athletic ability, then yes, Brady is more the tortoise who move like molasses. We've seen that on the field.

No way that Mahomes plays for 23 seasons at a high level.

Mahomes may not need that long to beat Brady's records. He can tie Brady in 12 years in terms of regular season touchdowns at the pace he's going (38 touchdowns per season on average), for example. At his current pace, what Brady did in 21 years in terms of numbers, Mahomes can do in 17...Brady only averaged 30 touchdowns per season

Your boy relies on his ability to scramble. That's not going to work long-term, sorry.

On what planet does 25,000 career passing yards and 1500 rushing yards constitute "relying on his ability to scramble?" Looks like he relies on his arm to me...are you confusing him with Lamar who has 4500 career rushing yards and has gotten 1000+ rushing yards in several seasons?
