Despite recent fancies of slang, things are not based "off" other things. They are based "on" other things.
Think of thing one as a foundation (the base.) Based on thing 1, you can add thing 2 to the argument.
I know there are a billion marching morons who are eager to destroy my beloved English language at every turn, and I'm tilting at proverbial windmills here.
But g** ****it, it's based on.
This will probably be about as successful as my campaign to discontinue the mispronunciation of "ax" (e.g., to ax a question) as "ask"
