I'm not trying to ridicule how people learned to speak either, or for that matter, write... I just have an outburst every now and then. Usually I have my outburst when EVERYBODY starts doing something like "based off", although, yeah, "should of" gets me too. It's all good, I don't think I'm better than anybody. In fact, I am surrounded by **** I could not build myself, from my computer to my toaster to my TV. I'm a maybe on the gravity-fed coffee maker. All I actually do is words, really, so please don't think I think that makes me anything better than a plumber or carpenter or engineer who does his/her job really well. Well, maybe the engineer.

What's the actual benefit of Mensa, other than some bragging rights? Asking for a friend.

As for "based off", I tend to see that as a precursor to an analytical leap, because one could say you're "based off" a C-130 before a jump or a cliff before wingsuiting or basejumping. Usually, it signals a departure from the base. Most times, what follows "based off" tends to make a leap anyway, so I'm less bothered by that than "could of" or "could care less".

Seems to me from the few times long ago that I dropped in on some Mensa meetings the bragging rights are biggest, secondary benefit is the opportunity to socialize with folks pre-selected only on IQ. In other words no selection based on social skills, interests, or anything else. incidentally different local groups in different locales were totally different, reflecting the different individuals involved. But that was just after college, so many decades and hundreds if not thousands of miles from now.

In other words no selection based on social skills, interests, or anything else. incidentally different local groups in different locales were totally different, reflecting the different individuals involved.
