Lol wow. That's actually not correct but think it anyway
2019 says hello.
My guess is Belichick has a vision of a team that has:
A defense based on the league leading elite secondary.
Elite special teams
Rotational "send in waves" pass rushers.
Smart linebackers
Go back and look at the KC game. At the end of Q3, KC only had 6 points. That offense only scored 19 with 330 yards of offense.
On offense, he will start the process of going away from CAP busting franchise QB's to having:
Very competent QB play at a reasonable price with very smart scheme guys at a reasonable price
Elite offensive line that excels in the run game. People will think Belichick invented I formation football.
Great Running Back by Committee to pound smaller, faster linebackers
This model gets games in the 20-25 points range.
I would love for 2019 to say hello. We were 12-4 and in the playoffs.
An elite secondary? Gilmore is all but gone and JC Jackson proved he is a good player but still not a number one. Who would the number 2 corner be? In theory it should have been Williams but he looks like a complete bust. Devin isn't going to be around forever and Chung may not even be on the team next year. Phillips is good but unless the LB position is addressed may be stuck there getting beaten to death every Sunday.
Smart linebackers? Yes of course you want smart players but we need athletes. We need guys that can run. Look at Devin White this post season. The guy was all over the field making plays. If we're going to be drafting higher the next year or so we need to land a guy like that.
Patriots fans seem to live in fantasy land with the QB position. You have to pay these guys. Average starting QBs command $25 mill a year. That is just what it is and we already saw Bill didn't want to pay that. Unless he drafts a guy we are going to be stuck with Cam, Jameis, or Fitzpatrick at QB. Guys who are willing to play for $15 million instead of $25 million.
20-25 points doesn't win in the league anymore. This is the 2003 version of the NFL you think Bill is trying to build and if that truly is the case the game has passed him by.
