As the draft rapidly approaches and pro days reach the halfway mark, big boards around the league are rounding into final form. Let's use this thread to post our own or to link to boards that might spark discussion. I'm still finalizing my rankings, but I'll update soon with my take on the draft, as well as comments on Patriots type players. My guys aren't always scheme fits, and vice versa.

I came across this earlier, and I quite like the idea of a consensus board. That should help us more accurately gauge value when creating mocks, and it can also serve as a quick sounding board to see if we have unique takes on a player's outlook. Enjoy.

EDIT: I tried to post the direct link, in case anyone wants to skip the Reddit discussion, but the board's embedding policies seem to cause a conflict.

If you go strictly by that Consensus Board rankings and no trades or deviations:

23: Rashaan Evans
31: Courtland Sutton
43: Justin Reid
63: Rashaad Penny
95: Da'Shawn Hand
198: Kendrick Norton
210: Dimitri Flowers
219: Davin Bellamy

Doesn't address our left tackle issue or long-term QB question. But other than D. Flowers who would be very redundant here, I would really like this draft, I can see the fits and the talent here.

I almost made this exact same post a moment ago! Just beat me to it. It struck me how many players I liked showed up at spots we picked.

The big take away for me is that it's worth trading down in this draft.

Mike Mayock top 100.

Some notables

12. Jaire Alexander (above Denzel Ward at 14)
13. Rashaan Evans
19. Frank Ragnow (getting a lot of first round love late)
20. Leighton Vander Esch
23. Lamar Jackson (interesting juxtaposition of rank and Pats pick).
31. Kolton Miller (ditto)
61. Justin Reid (yes please)
66. Kyle Lauletta

5 interior OL in the first 32

He's got a higher grade on Kyle Lauletta than I thought.

From the Tier 2 QBs for the Patriots, I have:

White
Falk
Rudolph/Lauletta

Lauletta's arm, sack total, TD:INT ratio, tipped passes and never being prolific or dominating in a season (4000+ yards passing) are the reasons why I have him rated lower.

That's why I never got the comparisons to Jimmy because he did this on the FCS level leading Eastern Illinois to a 12-2 record his senior year.

I think I’m right in saying that Lauletta had a different offensive co-ordination every year. Can someone verify or correct please. If so, that would help explain a slightly diminished stat line.

He did have different offensive coordinators.

But Mike White did too and was still more prolific at a higher football level and led WKU to a top #25 final ranking.

Well, at this point I've evaluated probably 30+ players per position, and I STILL feel like I am woefully unprepared going into the draft. I like a lot of players this year, and I have a draftable grade on more than usual, but my board is somewhere around 100 players total. I should probably trim it down even more, realistically.

I'd be happy with about twice as many other players as potential developmental types in UDFA, and I'll post that list later, but for the draft I am much pickier.

A quick word on grading. I'm eschewing a pure number system or rounds. Instead, I'm dividing players into tiers based on their readiness to start, roughly broken down to correlating rounds, with some heavy overlap. Players I've denoted with an asterisk show potential pro bowl traits, but I've put many of them into the later tiers due to flaws in their game. The asterisk is a nod to their potential, if they reach their ceiling. Past Tier 1, this is the classic "boom or bust" player. Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 explained:

  1. Starters; ready to step on field now regardless of upside (1st - 3rd round)
  2. Clearly defined role players; future starter (3rd - 5th round)
  3. Core ST players & spot contributors; potential starters (5th - 7th)

I'm mostly skipping the top 10 guys like the top 5 QBs, Chubb, Barkley, Nelson, Vea, James, etc. They're probably not realistic targets, so I'd rather move on to my other rankings. Order counts; the first player I list is graded higher than the next player, unless I've separated out their position (tackles are grouped together, IOL are grouped, etc).

Mike White beat Riley Ferguson head-to-head!!!!!!!!

:p:p:p:p:p:p

Last year I had White over him. I do like them both. I just don't like that White's production plummeted after losing some playmakers. Far more attempts, but worse percentage, fewer yards, fewer touchdowns, more INTs. It bothers me a bit. I would be fine with drafting White over Ferguson, but he had 5 years in college and I don't know that he elevated the team enough in his final year. Probably unfair, but it does worry me.

In the spirit of a Patriots draft board, where you only have about 75 players with draftable grades, here's my big board. I'm ranking by prospect tier. They're in a vague order inside the tiers but assume a willingness to move guys around within a given tier. Also note that positional availability matters. I'd take Bradley Chubb over one of the running backs even though I don't grade him as highly. I didn't do work on a lot of guys so the list may be missing some players, and the last tier is mostly just a bunch of guys I like from the lower end of the draft. My biggest variance, I think, from consensus is how high I have Isaiah Wynn, Maurice Hurst, and Isaiah Oliver and how low I have Minkah Fitzpatrick. (I don't even rank Josh Jackson because I don't think he's a fit for the Patriots). I also have Genard Avery in my second tier.

Tier 1: Quality starter (9)
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
Isaiah Wynn, OL, Georgia
Quenton Nelson, OL, Notre Dame
Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado

Tier 2: Starter (23)

DaRon Payne, DT, Alabama
Hayden Hurst, TE, South Carolina
Josh Sweat, EDGE, Florida State
Frank Ragnow, C, Arkansas

I'm joking with you Reamer.:)

But I'm not worried about those issues which I addressed in my scouting reports on Mike.

Building The Patriots Big Board: QB's

BGC 2018 DRAFT QB THREAD

The Boca Raton video shows the intangible of White performing at a high level against a ranked Memphis team in a bowl game that's a close approximation of a high pressure important/playoff game.

The reason I picked the 2016-17 highlights is that it shows White running the Erhardt-Perkins offense under Jeff Brohm, and he was phenomenal doing it.

At the end of his highlight video, WKU is playing their biggest rival Middle Tennesse in the "100 Miles of Hate" game.

This showed another intangible of White rising to the occasion by leading the team on the final drive and scoring the winning TD with no TOs and the jubilation between him and his teammates.

A year later, White led his undermanned Hilltoppers in another "do-or-die" against their hated rival MTSU for a bowl slot: He performed amazingly leading WKU to victory in overtime over MTSU: He did what he had to and got the job done.

The only QB prospects with the physical tools and had/played in these types of situations/games are: Darnold, Mayfield and White.

He got flaws that are pretty minimal compared to all the QBs in "Tier 2" and, really, all those in the entire draft.

Mike White/QB/Western Kentucky: White has grown on me the past two years, as he’s progressed as a passer and comes with upside. He’s a traditional pocket passer who’s accurate, has a next-level arm and gets it between the ears.

All-Underrated Team: Offense | Draft Analyst

Western Kentucky University QB Mike White proves his football IQ

Something subtle I saw, which might not mean anything, was who were the starting QBs in the Senior Bowl.

Usually the players with the most talent and/or who practiced the best the entire week are rewarded the starting jobs.

The two starting QBs were Baker Mayfield and Mike White in this year's Senior Bowl.

Mike was excellent in the game going 8/11 128 yds, 11 ypa and 1 TD.

Bill O'Brien was the head coach for Mike White's squad.

And with his experience with the Patriots, I'm leaning towards his evaluation of the QBs at the Senior Bowl would align closely with ours.
