Belichick wanted Jakobi. Was convinced out of it by the new guys picking players

Is it possible that Kraft has a bit of Jerry Jones in him, and chafes at BB getting the credit and little goes to Kraft?

If true that does not bode well for the Pats’ future.
I think Kraft's early ownership tenure makes "yes" a pretty clear answer to that question. And I suspect Jonathan even moreso.

On coaching decisions obviously BB had final say and total control - worked out well. On personnel decisions BB supposedly was the guy but never had a GM title - the Krafts clearly had final decisions (and opinions) since it always affected the pocket book - I say this is 25%-75% blame, Bill and Krafts respectively.

the koolaid drinking is strong with this one. you ignore any report critical to Bill and his decision making.

so the GM, head of the organization who in his own words "someone has to make the final decision and that person is me" was perfect! it was just everyone around him. he's just a bumbling buffoon sitting in his office in patriot place while everyone else makes poor decisions for him.

think logically. why did they want to take GM duties away from him? its stuff like picking harry over aj brown/deebo. not addressing the offense, picking kickers in the 4th and backup QB's in the 4th. hiring a DC/special teams coordinator to handle the offense...

these bizarre out of pocket decisions left us with a worse roster each year. but i'm sure it was all the people around him...bill is blameless.

how about that caserio guy? now he's free of Bill in houston and nailing the drafts.
BB was paid handsomely to take accountability. He probably had to sign something saying he'd continue to do just that in order to receive his 2024 salary.
BBs gone now. Let's see what Mayo has to deal with huh?

Sadly, this reveal is damning to both; BB and the front office wonks.
Neither JM or JJSS deserved consideration, especially if the master plan was for either to be Mac's primary target....aka ....the #1 WR.
Yes, the passing attack took a giant step backwards because the JJSS supporters triumphed.
That being said, JM is a fundamentally sound possession receiver but nothing more.
If Plan A at WR continues to be these lower cost / move the chain options and nothing more....

the drafting has been poor for alot longer than the last 3 years. I doubt evil man Kraft is up there telling Bill to pick a kicker in the 4th or hire patricia/judge or to not draft any offense until the 5th round.

its delusion to act like everything good is because of bill. but if the roster is garbage....well its not his fault!
At some point, you're going to have to dig deeper and see how many picks were traded (also, stolen) in order to keep the train moving for that last run. They played into late-January/February five years straight, kept dumping picks for guys like Hicks and Ayers and Cooks and a bunch of others.

I mean, one year, they had 4 picks, and the first wasn't until #83 or something like that.
They were also taking shots for players who might crack a rock-solid line-up (Easley, for example, Mitchell, too), or choosing an RB who could come right in and protect the franchise (Michel).

There was a great editorial on Channel 5 today saying that the biggest thing BB brought to New England were expectations. It's true. It also becomes wholly unreasonable.
It hasn't been until the last 3 years that the Pats had any real draft capital at all, and one of those actually blue chip picks had to go to QB, who turned out to, well, suck.

There's never been an indication outside of one instance that Kraft overruled Bill on any decision in the GM department. The decision was the obviously wrong decision Bill tried to make of getting rid of Brady and rolling with Jimmy. When Kraft later let Bill move on from Brady, it led to a chain reaction that ended Bill's tenure here. Bill was a bad drafter and team builder since 2013. He needed someone competent to be able to say no to him and make decisions. Kraft wasn't that person. But Bill 100% needed guardrails as a GM.

All this damage control coming out just reeks of "Bill knows he's going to be asked about why things didn't work the last few years when he interviews with new teams and is going to have to justify why a team should trust him with the same power he had in New England".

To some point in time. The Krafts after 2020 started to question him after Brady left and won a superbowl in a covid year. What they and most people are not factoring in is that the Bucs had the luxury of picking low in the draft for like 10 years in a row and had the pieces in place. They put this stupid team together to make selections once the Harry experiment failed.

It always goes back to the Mac pick and comments Kraft made about a more collaborative approach or some **** like that prior to that draft.
BB has been unhappy but he believed he could fix it. I am among a few who believe this was not a 4-13 team, their record makes them look terrible but they were a solid team. Sure had some issues but they are not as big as they are. They were handicapped by the QB position.
Hand job Kraft and his son have started meddling, leaking stuff to media. This is a slippering slope they are on. If Mayo also contributed to the leaks, then he better watch his back. What goes around comes around.
We know the Krafts and possibly Mayo leaked information as a trial ballon
This is a house of cards. they will have the longest fall

I think you will hear in the coming weeks that he is handing the reins off to Jonathan, and ultimately we will find out he was behind this and he aspires to be Jerry jones.

The end of the dynasty starts with the Harry selection. BB can't make excuses about that. He wanted Harry despite the scouting staff's recommendation otherwise. If they pick another WR things would have turned out differently. Stop making this so complicated. The dominoes fall starting with Harry....

This is a lot of BS. It’s been proven that BB did not try to get rid of Brady by an actual GM who tried to get him to trade Brady and was laughed at.
Kraft is on record saying he negotiated Brady’s contracts and literally quoted that be would not pay him elite QB money.

Kraft released Antonio Brown.
Kraft publicly announced that he made changes in the front office structure prior to the 2021 draft.
Kraft meddled in assistant coach decisions.
Kraft gave the HC job to Mayo effective after the 2024 season before the 2023 season.

Belichick has been respectful and deferential to Kraft his entire career and spoke about anything within the organization with outsiders. People have created a whole story about what happened behind those closed doors without any facts whatsoever and pretend it’s factual.

thats not my point at all........do we go 10-6 with davis mills? probably not. a couple 4 win seasons with davis mills and Bill is fired much earlier.

they took a shot at mac jones and he failed like alot of top QB picks. doesn't mean it was the wrong pick at the time. or ignoring the position and taking Davis Mills would've been some great strategy
David Mills is a better QB than 10. There is no reason to believe we do worse with a better qb.

We know that prior to the 21 draft Kraft said changes were made and we know prior to the 21 draft belichick was in charge.

Low draft picks is just another excuse being touted. The Patriots didn't have a problem with a lack of draft capital the first 13 years Bill was here despite constantly being in the playoffs and going to either Super Bowls or AFCCG's for most of it.

Even recently the problem wasn't where the draft picks were, it was the misses that Bill continually made when drafting. We haven't had a good draft since 2014. You could go down most drafts and find someone Bill could have easily taken that would have been better than what he got. Instead of the constantly injured Easley we could have Joe Bitonio or Davante Adams for years to come. Instead of having the bust Malcolm Brown we could have had Landon Collins who was picked right after and shored up the secondary even more (which would have helped during a certain Super Bowl a few years later). Instead of trading with Carolina in 2017 we could have picked Kimara or Kupp at the end of the second round. Instead of Sony Michel we could have gotten either Chubb who was an RB actually worth keeping around for years OR we could have gotten Lamar Jackson if Bill was hellbent on moving on from Brady. Most of us still throw up over who we could have got in 2019.

And this is all without moving picks or trading up. It would have been very easy to trade up and get either CeeDee Lamb or Justin Jefferson in 2020.

The draft pick thing is such a copout. The Rams have been pissing away their draft picks in trades for years and went to two Super Bowls and have been consistently better than us and making the playoffs the last 6 years. The Chiefs highest overall pick since 2018 was the 21st overall in 2022. Aside from that they never picked before 30. They stayed consistent. The Bills have won the division every single year since Brady left and haven't had a pick earlier than 23. The excuses are such a waste of time at this point. One or two drafts you can make that excuse. The consistency with how badly they've been is a trend.

Doesn't matter the era ended with 6 Superbowls and countless of memories it is what it is
I'll keep the same energy and be grateful what BB provided the franchise with TB
Time to move on

And...Bill was the big boss. If he wanted Jakobi, he could have had him.

That article does nothing to really make Bill look good.
You're missing the forest for the trees. Bill's power was eroded. More power was given to other people. From coaches brought in, to who to play. He was undercut. If he acquiesced it's because he was asked to relinquish power.

This was known all over the Boston press. It wasn't a secret. We just didn't know which players Belichick took a back seat on.

One bad pick ruined the greatest coach in NFL history.

we haven't drafted a pro bowl caliber skills position player since gronk in 2010. thats 14 years...

we haven't re-signed a 1st round pick in 10 years. a decade...
The dynasty wasnt built on probowl votes.

You could go a step further and start with not extending Cooks. We would have been fine with him. Once we did that we had two off seasons of WR being a circus of signing and releasing scrubs trying to make **** stick to the wall, which ultimately the Harry pick was part of that nonsense.
