Belichick wanted Jakobi. Was convinced out of it by the new guys picking players

yeah i'm not sure the Davis Mills news is the flex some fans think it is. honestly Bill might have gotten fired sooner.

Davis mills as your starting QB with Patricia/judge running the offense.
It couldn’t be worse than 10.

The facts say so.

Releasing Antonio brown
Taking away BBs authority in the draft after 1 losing season, 2 years removed from a SB win.
Forcing Mac jones on him this year.
Forcing others into personnel control to dump Meyers.
Making assistant coach decisions.
Literally giving his job to Mayo in 2022

It couldn’t be worse than 10.

we went 10-6 that year and made the playoffs. mac being ass now does'nt mean he was bade in 2021.

You mean when 2 years after winning their 3rd SB in 5 years and after 1 losing season, Kraft said this

“If you want to have a good, consistent, winning football team, you can’t do it in free agency. You have to do it through the draft,” Kraft said. “That’s when you’re able to get people of great talent — whether it’s Willie McGinest or Tom Brady — you get them at a price where you can build a team and be competitive. Once they get to their first contract, if they’re superstars, you can only balance so many of them.

“So really, the teams who draft well are the ones who will be consistently good. I don’t feel we’ve done the greatest job the last few years, and I really hope — and I believe — I’ve seen a different approach this year.”

And diminished belichicks authority? The 2023 team is 90% the transactions since the 2020 season ended, and that is when Kraft appears clearly to have instructed belichick to do things differently.
And let’s not forget the season after that last SB when the team started 10-1 allowing 14 or less in every win, the consensus argument is they lacked weapons, after Robert Kraft released Antonio Brown because of an article accusing him of something he was never charged with.
There should be a mushroom cloud emoji for this post.

yeah. no one rational can look at this roster and think our drafting has been good enough the last 5 years.
Well the last 3 were due to Kraft changing the structure.
With mediocre QB okay we would have made the playoffs this year and last year too
Kraft was gifted the GOAT who built him the greatest franchise in NFL history and he proceeded to meddle his way into turning it mediocre.

The point of posting this isn't so much to rehash what could've been when Belichick is gone. After all, the buck stops with Belichick. He was the one who made the final decision. It's more to look at the future. We now have a new wave of analytic people running the team, and they will look at JuJu's superior numbers. Meyers was a prototypical Belichick WR: not fast, but he excelled at finding space, and he put his body on the line. Tough guy.

(By the way: Is it absolutely known that Belichick was the one watching Baylor games on tape 3 years ago?)
Since it appears BB still had the final say on this horrible choice it's ultimately on him.
HOWEVER, it also doesn't make me feel good about the future (or either Kraft's judgement) that they are leaving these people in place.

the koolaid drinking is strong with this one. you ignore any report critical to Bill and his decision making.

so the GM, head of the organization who in his own words "someone has to make the final decision and that person is me" was perfect! it was just everyone around him. he's just a bumbling buffoon sitting in his office in patriot place while everyone else makes poor decisions for him.

think logically. why did they want to take GM duties away from him? its stuff like picking harry over aj brown/deebo. not addressing the offense, picking kickers in the 4th and backup QB's in the 4th. hiring a DC/special teams coordinator to handle the offense...

these bizarre out of pocket decisions left us with a worse roster each year. but i'm sure it was all the people around him...bill is blameless.

how about that caserio guy? now he's free of Bill in houston and nailing the drafts.

He was exactly the same guy, McD hid his flaws for half a season until opponents saw it on tape and changed the way they defend him.

explain the 3 prior to the last 3. same old garbage drafts. if anything they've gotten better since the structure change.

its just when Bill picks offense he whiffs. the defensive picks have been good.

thats not my point at all........do we go 10-6 with davis mills? probably not. a couple 4 win seasons with davis mills and Bill is fired much earlier.

they took a shot at mac jones and he failed like alot of top QB picks. doesn't mean it was the wrong pick at the time. or ignoring the position and taking Davis Mills would've been some great strategy

Your thought exercise and conjecture is meaningless.

Belichick ran the greatest dynasty in the history of the sport. As soon as Robert Kraft started meddling and making changes in the decision making and power structure, it collapsed. Facts are facts.
There are numerous examples coming out about krafts meddling over the last 4 years. Can you find any during the dynasty?
What changed?
The “duh” crowd wants you to believe belichick just forgot how to do it.

Is it possible that Kraft has a bit of Jerry Jones in him, and chafes at BB getting the credit and little goes to Kraft?

If true that does not bode well for the Pats’ future.

Drafts are largely consistent with all of his drafts during the dynasty. The draft is a piece of building a team, not the only piece.

So Cargile gets the blame now? Or do Wolf and Groh get thrown under the bus too?

hasn't been that way in 24 years now people think that is the case?

the drafting has been poor for alot longer than the last 3 years. I doubt evil man Kraft is up there telling Bill to pick a kicker in the 4th or hire patricia/judge or to not draft any offense until the 5th round.

its delusion to act like everything good is because of bill. but if the roster is garbage....well its not his fault!

we haven't drafted a pro bowl caliber skills position player since gronk in 2010. thats 14 years...

we haven't re-signed a 1st round pick in 10 years. a decade...

It wouldn't. Mills was a total bust, even worse than Jones and Zappe. We would have needed to trade up at 15 regardless to get anybody worthwhile. The Jets jumped A LOT more teams than the Patriots to secure Vera-Tucker. Tucker isn't that good and had injury issues. And you are ignoring that to get Mills we need to get creative in the second. Either draft Mills with the Barmore pick or trade up and lose Stevenson. You aren't getting Mills without a sacrafice there.
No, because he could have taken Barmore at 15, or traded back and ADDED draft capital instead of subtracting some in moving up to get Barmore.
