Basically Rodgers has engineered it that the Packers either trade him where he wants to go before the 2022 season, or he walks in 2023 and they get nothing. In that sense he "won" but...

This is a win for GB IMO. This is being spun as they conceded but they got Rodgers back for this year which was always the goal and gave him NO money. That is huge. They also voided the final year of his deal and saved money against the cap. They also agreed to just review things next off-season with the power to trade Rodgers if he still wants to go. This means they will get picks for him and perhaps a haul as Rodgers will be motivated to play well to get a mega deal from his new team. He will be turning 39 next year as well so perfect time to move to Love who will have another season to develop.

Honestly, this was a home run by GB mgmt.

It is weird/funny that Rodgers basically forced the Packers to set up a scenario that the Packers themselves should have wanted all along - not being committed long term to an aging diva quarterback with an ever-shifting set of grievances and demands.

Now here we are. Green Bay gave up that much cash as a big risk. What did they get in return? If he’s still playing at a high level, they can choose to keep him and have him retire with the team and his salary is likely to be a bargain by then. EXCEPT that was never going to happen…the team has always given him over the top hero worship and kissed his ass. They spun the contract as a lifetime deal; it wasn’t. Now the deal has become a mockery.
