Even though I have serious problems with Portugal, this thread makes me feel a bit better about living in Europe (and here in particular)

It's really sad how the Freedom of will, maybe America's biggest legacy for the modern world ideology, has evolved into Freedom of stupidiy. So much advancements made because USA, only to be disregarded by their own people, who keep glorifying ideologies and not reality ( as in, ignoring years of science and basic medical principles)

I dont like to meddle in political discussions here, cause Im definitely a outsider looking in, but with these movements happening all over the West (Brazil and Europe, which includes my life), I guess Im somewhat implied here.

So, can I say it, without political attachments? If you are anti-vax, you are one stupid mother****er
As a red blooded American insider, it's because our definition of "free thinker" means "I get all my information from Joe Rogan and uncritically apply it to my own life".

West Virginians, held hostage by a coal industry that slowly kills them and absorbs any wealth they may create with their labor, consistently vote to maintain it. Then blame "liberalism" and "socialism" (which they don't understand) for the ills of society, and choose leaders who openly profit from their misery and openly live the lifestyles they supposedly oppose. When science or social science attempts to improve life, it gets labeled "political."

The same theme unfolds in nearly every conservative region of the country, with different industries as the clothing.

It has nothing to do with rational choice, but is rooted exclusively in self loathing and centuries old superstitions, and the tribalism that is formed to maintain it. The "sheep" meme is one of the greatest projections in US history.

The sad part of it is that the tribal members really are disempowered and being abused - their gut feelings are correct. Their analysis is so wrong.

An earlier poster used the term "management class" as the group that is the opposition to regular citizens. Again, gut feelings are correct, but the "management class" is just a bunch of people with professional jobs. They aren't the architects or benefactors of all this.
Joe Manchin actually wanted to run as a Harkonnen but apparently it's still D or R on the ballot...

He is the LEADER of the team. He should have got the shot. He hurts his teams chances of winning the SB by being out for 10 days. Nuff said. He should have got the shot. He is the Leader of the Packers.
I want to go pre-Mac to when we had a "Main Dude" (even though Mac is gonna end up with Main Dude status, let's flash back to having that "Face of the Franchise" guy.)

What would we have thought if Brady was pulling these word games, trying to lie, pretend he didn't lie, have it both ways, whine how he's a misunderstood free thinker, etc. ... all the while exposing the team to risk... Then end up with, on top of it all, more confiscated draft picks? (Which you know they'd hit us harder with -- they've even said that, they weigh previous witchhunts in applying subsequent punishments.)

Would anybody here, even the anti-science anti-vax idjit brigade, be down with Brady acting like that, and making our team the laughingstock/lightning rod of the league?

Even if you don't get why people invent vaccines.... STILL... would you really be offering up the New England Patriots on the altar of this nonsense, knowing the penalties, like he did w the Packers?

So many kinds of stupid.

Wtf is with all this BiG pHaRmA and biG tEch whining.

Their entire platform is all about product competition, consumer centrism, deregulation, survival of the fittest, profit is good.

But we’re sheep cuz big pharma? Wtf? Isn’t it supposed to work just like this? Companies develop the vaccine for consumer share and profit? Now it’s a bad thing and we’re just idiots?

The idea that Big Business, monetary reward, capitalism were great, all these years, spouted off by the same people now crying about it. I feel embarrassed for all these fools who are just showing us their entire ass crack…no one is more of a gullible than someone who is now fully on the other side of an argument, without even realizing it.

Just like most of us, Big Pharma and Big Tech pefer their customers alive.

This pretty much explains it. My employer has a mandate, because if they didn't, they judged it would hurt their bottom line. I'm on this site as a fan. The NFL has rules that teams and players have to abide by. I only care if my team can navigate those rules and maximize their chances for winning. Rodgers, despite his enormous salary, has let down his teammates, coaches and the Packers fans. He said avoiding the vaccine was a no-brainer. I think he should have tried some-brainer.

It's always interesting to see when someone is really smart in one area of life and almost too dumb to survive in other areas.
Smart ? He is a toxic loser who’s thanking a radio host for instructing him on how to take a cattle dewormer.

He was born with excellent genetics that allow him to make millions playing a game.

"No-brainers" are nice when clinical trials and the like keep ending up with the opposite of the answer you want to arrive at.

Speaking of big pharma, I had a minor cardiac incident this Monday, and my cardiologist recommended I start taking the blood thinner Eloquist. Well I picked it up from the pharmacist even though I haven't decided if I am going to take it, since once you start, its for life. At Walgreens, part of the paperwork you get with your prescription tells you how much you save with your plan. I was STUNNED to find out I saved $1744 on my 3 month supply. I almost felt the need to go out and buy Bristoll Meyers Squibb stock. What a scam. $582/month to a captive audience that doesn't end until they DIE
I had a DVT - I've had multiple surgeries on my leg (since 1976) - which they attributed to being hit by a softball on the shin a couple of YEARS earlier. I was on cumaden for a weekend (YUCK!), then saw the specialist who put me on Eliquist. After a few months, the danger had passed. I am only on eliquist when I fly now. Get on a plane, pop one. No further issues.

The drug had no real side effects for me, and was SO much better than cumaden (I;m probably spelling these wrong, but you can see what I mean here).

So, it's not necessarily for life, Ken. Cardio is different, sure...but there are other ways available to you (plant-based diets!). You should talk tot he doc to see if maybe you can get away from it after a while if you can improve your blood chemistry through dieting. (I watched "The Game Changers" on Netflix and never looked back. Feel absolutely wonderful now, after a few months.).

Just wait until you hear about the things brain surgeon Ben Carson believes.

I will occasionally write on science, but I personally have given up on COVID topics (although I don’t fault others with who still post on COVID) because they generate endless posts (often with repeating arguments) that never change any minds, and the name of Fauci has become as politicized as COVID itself.

However, I would argue that the management class consists of business people who spend every thought on how to make more $$$ for their stockholders, their company, or themselves together with politicians who spend every thought on how to get elected or re-elected and how to get more and more political campaign $$$ to make that happen. IMHO, Scientists who love doing data and fact based research to elucidate scientific truths (much like detective work) usually don’t get too far up the management class ladder unless they shift their thinking from a search for scientific truths to a search for more and more $$$$.

Great response. Thanks.

Trusted sources are tough to find. Personally I now refer to Reuters for my news source. I no longer listen to Fox or MSNBC. I'll read AP articles. I'll listen to NPR but although they are obviously left leaning they'll still invite various perspectives to offer counter points in a civilized manner.

I've also grown to trust a few posters here over the years in regards to science driven issues. Palm Beach, you and a few others have always been at the front of fact based analysis. Deflate gate exposed your integrity and expertise to the benefit of us all. You guys were always dead on.

A while ago I asked a question regarding my kids whether or not they should be vaccinated. I was concerned. I reached out to the forum. I got labeled as a "Trumpist" by some of our more reputable members. Palm Beach replied with his usual fact based and sincere response that helped me make a decision. I was able to Google his response to find that what he said was supported. That was important to me. I basically turn wrenches for a living and just want reliable sources, that I trust, to make important decisions. So please post your thoughts. Guys like me read them.

Imagine Romeo Crennel publicly thanking Felger or Glen O for health advice…. I don’t know what has happened. The Internet ? Societal changes ? ZERO people in 2004 would have thought that makes any sense. Zero. And Romeo would have been (rightfully) mocked. And yet here we are.

I can think of at least one specific mass delusion Americans held in 2004, but yeah, in general I agree.

1 - If vaccinated can die of covid we will never know if the vaccinated that did not die would have survived covid regardless.

2 - Flu shot vaccinations are used to prevent contracting the flu. That is why people got the shot. There is little polint on getting the flu vaccination if it might work.
There's so much wrong here.

1. Statistics will tell you whatever you want to hear if you torture them enough, but it's pretty obvious in this case. When 7 out of 10 are vaccinated in a group, and 9+ out of 10 in that group are sick and unvaccinated...well....

Further, as with the Israeli study(ies), there are problems always with categorizing the groups, since in Israel almost ALL elderly and immuno-compromised people are vaccinated. These are the people most at risk, and also the ones on whom the vaccines will not work for as long or as well. We KNOW this from many studies.

Doing such a study is difficult because of these wide variances (is a 40-year-old who had COVID more protected than a 90-year-old who had a vaccine? Is that still true comparing two 40-year-olds?)

Well, CDC has been following the studies on this pretty carefully - hey, we all hope it's true that having covid provides immunity! - and, well, you're just wrong according tot he larger and more in-depth research.

5 times. You are 5 times more protected from a vaccine than from having COVID.

2. Flu shots do not prevent getting the flu. They help in avoiding it at varying amounts (they have to predict which strain will hit before it hits and adjust the shot accordingly, right?), but mostly, if you DO contract the flu after having a shot, it will be at least somewhat mitigated.

There were breakthrough cases of Polio. For years. The Polio vaccine was developed over 2.5 years by Salk after he finally figured out how they could do it - then, it was tested in a trial that lasted LESS THAN A YEAR, and poof, out it went in the late 50's. The vaccine was required in the USA until 1979, when, because of the vaccine, we had stamped out the little polio fires to nothing. But no, the vaccine did not prevent contraction.

Tetanus has a vaccine. Has to be renewed every so often. This is true of many - whether you had chicken pox or had the vaccine, you will be wise to get a shingles (same thing) vaccine when you get older.

If the objective was to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed then WHY did Fredo Cuomo's brother place covid patients into nursing homes thereby infecting thousands?

Cuomo wasn't the only governor to do that. Several in the northeast did it. The law read that "Patients would be returned to long-term care facilities IF those facilities said they could properly handle them."

Why do that?

Because where the f*** were we going to put them? The hospitals were full; these were people who couldn't go back to family and required a ton of care, and, oh by the way, the Federal Government at that time wasn't helping much at all.

One more note: A study was just published showing that masking reduces transmission of COVID by 93%. Masking AND social distancing reduced transmission by 98+%.

It's not a surprise to anyone who understands basic respiratory spread. Simply put, keeping kids fomr wearing masks in crowded classrooms is batshit crazy.

Here's a long personal story that shouldn't even be political but which I would hope people like Rodgers would take heed of:

I have two different cousins that would throttle Rodgers if they had the chance. One is in Savannah, Georgia. Her husband who has COPD contracted double pneumonia last month. Could not get a hospital bed in multiple GA hospitals, so instead of going out of state they started him on IV/ABX in the home. A week later, a bed opened up, so he was transported to the hospital. During this entire time, he had no oxygen, because they ran out of oxygen supplies in Georgia. He was in critical condition. Last week, he came out of the hospital. He survived it. I won't even begin to describe what my cousin text group is like (I have 38 first cousins), but for the first time ever, there was anger.

One of my cousins lives in Greece, which has a big anti-vaxx contingent in the culture. He's in his 60s and had a stroke. There were no beds at the local hospital for the same reason there were none in eastern Georgia. He was transported to a hospital 6 hours away. When he got there, they discovered he had a brain bleed that hadn't stopped. They had to operate, he has gone in a coma. There are encouraging signs in the last week, and the doctors are talking of pulling him out of it. He needed to be operated on at the FIRST hospital instead of allowing his condition to deteriorate after many hours. Now, this is an example of medical malpractice. But tell that to my cousin's wife and her children who are rip-roaringly furious.

I should hope that just acknowledging that we're putting vulnerable people at risk by not taking precautions to make our community safer... this should be enough of an argument. Not to mention the fatigue and exhaustion of medical professionals. I don't understand why people can't appreciate this.

And to top it off, I can't believe the willingness of people to take all sorts of things, including monoclonal antibodies which are laboratory-produced genetically-engineered, once they get sick, after refusing advanced vaccines before they're sick. So they are not averse to the technology at all. This tells me everything I need to know.

Great facts, the CDC has reported that 98.6% of those hospitalized for Covid from July through September were unvaccinated. That should tell us a lot.

Sorry to hear. Hope he pulls through. Damn, 38 first cousins? Lol.

Not sure how one can reject vaccines due to possible ineffectiveness, highly unlikely side effects, bIg PhArMa, etc. and then gulp down a ****tail of hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, and monoclonal antibodies.
