Either Douglas really believes Gase and Darnold are keys to a successful future for the Jets or he's being savvy and knows he plans to jettison both of them when the season ends. Considering Douglas accepted the Jets GM job in the first place, I'm leaning towards the former.

The weird thing is Douglas has a six year contract so he really doesn't have to make this kind of statement if he really doesn't believe in Gaze or Darnit. In fact if he makes this kind of statement then moves on from them he loses credibility in the locker room and among his peers in the NFL, because they all know he has a six year contract so he doesn't need to kiss up to the owners. Of course it could be that he has a really weak contract that lets da Jete kick him to the curb at will. If so, having a GM who can't negotiate himself a good contract would be so, so Jetsy. Either case we have a GM who is incompetent.

I'm waiting for @Joker to tell me I'm over thinking things and "da Jete suck" covers all the bases.
