Rudy Ford gone to the Cards.

So I take it the Pats should be on the clock right now? 10 picks behind sounds about right...

One thing to note when the topic comes to 4o times when discussing pass rushers. Dwight Freeney has been an elite pass rusher for over a decade, and IIRC he was first timed with a 5 second 40, and then got it down to something like 4.88 at a pro day or work out.

Freeney excelled because he had an explosive first step, the ability to get low and "skinny" going around the corner, and a non-stop motor. Now I don't know anything about Wise except he had a sup par 4.9 forty and conversly a great sub- 7 second 3 cone. None of that crap means nothing, pro or con, if he can't get to the QB, set the edge, and keep improving his game. That we won't see until we get to TC.

Actually, Freeney had an incredible 40 time. It was like sub 4.5, and I know that without looking it up.

I wouldn't focus too much on the 40 though. A DE will literally never have to run 40 yards in a line. Sure, you can use it as an analogue for quantity of quick twitch fibers and approximate speed off the edge, but there are other ways to cross-check that. Upon reviewing film and his other times (3 cone, etc), you have to conclude he just doesn't know how to run 40 yards in a line. It actually is kind of a skill, and I figure with some training, he'd probably be a 4.7 guy, which would suddenly make many people think 'woah! stud player!'

10 picks to go

LB . Langi, Wilson, Phillips, Mathis, Gilbert, Onwualu
IOL . Fuller
DB . Jerome, Holsey, J Ford, David Jones, Nacua
DL . Qualls, Jarron Jones, D Brown, Myers, Tu'lkolovatu (if we like a bit older)

of course

What about Malachi dupre? Would he still be on the board if there was better qb play at LSU?

Certainly flashes potential. For a guy who is supposed to be a jump ball maven, however, he sure drops a lot of easy throws. Scintillating ability, but I don't think he's a reliable player in any sense of the word.

We traded up

On the clock

Ahhhhhh, there goes Robert Davis. I thought he might be an interesting developmental type as a big bodied deep threat. Ah well. He's raw and not likely to break the rotation, anyway.

Holsey would be a nice pick up for the red shirt year
since the roster is kind of full

My hunch is Trevor Knight here. Maybe snatched right before the Packers wanted him as a QB prospect?
