Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

I’m all for keeping Boutte. I just think he would be their 4 or 5 depending on the defensive match up. If we get a 3rd rounder then I pull the trigger. Otherwise we keep him.
Not good for Boutte on a contract year but Maye has good chemistry with him so he could come on. Like you said injuries at the WR position is common. Boutte is good depth.
That’s where I’m at.
A 3rd, sure.
A 4th, wouldn’t like it but would understand if they did it.
5th or lower, no thanks,

If Boutte wasn’t on our roster but all of our other WRs were and whatever team had Boutte was shopping him I feel like everyone here would absolutely balk at the idea of trading a third round pick for him. I feel like the consensus would be that he’s solid but a 3rd is too much to give up for him considering the caliber of player he is and the role he’d have on our team.

It is, but we want to win the trade.

Yeah, but here's something that can't be reflected in stats as much as you might think. Chemistry with your QB. How many WRs with good pedigrees have absolutely failed with one QB and then taken off with another? You can't just plug and play these guys.

I get it.

Your goal is to win a trade.

The team has different goals.

If Boutte isn't part of the future and they don't see him getting made reps as our 5th choice as a wide receiver target, then he will be gone, FULL STOP.

Yes, the team might wait until just before Game 1 to trade him, keeping him for the so-called final 53.

If the team thinks that waiting is worth it (unlikely), they might even use the wasted roster spot to be able to trade for a bit more before the trade deadline.

I just don't see 53 players in camp worthy of keeping so they can dump Boutte for a late pick.

And we don't know what the team's goals are except Boutte is still here, even though they paid handsomely for people to replace him.

Basically, you are saying that we should pay Boutte to have a few reps a game as the 5th WR choice.
You are saying that Boutte is so important that there isn't a player on the team or that will be available from other teams that will be more valuable to the 2026 patriots, so much so that we should pay him #3.7M.

It's done. The team has paid handsomely to replace Boutte.

Wasting a roster spot and preventing Boutte from moving to a team where he won't be 5th in WR reps is not a goal.

You think that Boutte having a few reps a game instead of Douglas is the best use of a roster spot. I disagree.
===========
Y'all can continue to say that Boutte is a better choice than Doubs as the #2, and better than Hollins as part of the 3WR set that will play i the majority of passing downs. You might even argue that Boutte is a better choice than Williams in his role.

Those players are getting their reps. If Boutte really wants to be the #5, I suppose that is OK, but I would rather have Douglas who might fill that role in 202u7.

For the keep Booty at all costs crowd, please enlightened me on how he'll be used in this offense with 4 other receivers that can play the X.
If its just insurance and he rarely sees the field is that worth the roster spot? You love him as a player but would rather him sit on the roster in a break glass scenario than go to a team where he can have a significant role in his contract year?

So ditch Hollins and weaken our running game? Jettison Pop and loose his slot man-beating ability? Keep AJB and/or Doubs on the sideline so Booty can get his contested catch opportunities?

Our running game was weak last year even with Hollins; and that's why the FO signed Gilliam & Hill. That particular skill set of Hollins therefore has less value than it did before those signings.

People sure have changed their mind about Douglass. When he ran backward and lost a 1st down people wanted to hang him.
In the last 14 games of last season he averaged 14.2 snaps a game on offense, not playing more than 22 in any game, and people have him now one of the starting 3 lined up to play 50 snaps a week.

Doesn't look like we're gonna see many groupings with what we might term NE Patriot-type slot receivers again this year, unless Douglas is McD's secret weapon that's gonna be unleashed at Seattle...

Every team that has had joint practice with the Patriots who need WR help would snatch him in a heartbeat.

Like last year?

Pop and Hollins have roles, Pop is starting in the slot.

As much as I would prefer to have an NEP-type slot guy here, and physically Pop fits that bill, I still don't believe that we'll see him at that particular place on the field as often as you're implying...

STARTING POINT
Brown, Doubs, Hollins, and Williams are on the team and on the active roster every game. As noted, Williams is a returner as well as a 3-5 a game target 4th WR in that group. How often should the 5th WR play? Isn't our starting 3 plus Henry enough? Isn't that the current situation through camp? Even a FIVE-receiver set could include the 4 receivers plus Henry or a RB as the 5th recever.
========
What roles do others play? How many targets a game should we expect from the rest? Check last year.

For example, If Boutte has the same role as Doubs, why would the team sit Doubs to play Boutte if they have decided that Doubs is a better choice.

Is Douglas a good enough backup in the slot or change of pace for him to be the active 5th for a few targets a game? Could the team be hoping that Douglas will an inexpensive, reliable #5 again in 2027?

And yes, whoever is the 5th WR on the roster is insurance against one of the top 3 getting injured. His reps would greatly increase in that situation.
=====
Chism is another situation. The team needs to decide whether he is the #5 on the roster, the #6 on the roster or a PS player.

I stopped after this.

Hollins played better than I thought he would last year; but that doesn't mean, however, that he should be treated as a sacred cow either.

Like last year?
Last year he hardly repped as much as he has this year. Are you paying attention this preseason?
As much as I would prefer to have an NEP-type slot guy here, and physically Pop fits that bill, I still don't believe that we'll see him at that particular place on the field as often as you're implying...
We’ll see, when they utilize a slot WR it will likely be Pop then Chism.

I am not a keep Boutte at all costs guy.
But the return needs to be commensurate to a player that is 24 years old and already with 3 NFL seasons under his belt. In the proper scheme and QB situation, he could be ready to pop in a Doubs-ish way. He could be a top 2 or 3 WR on 75% of the leagues teams.
He is playing for a contract. He is hungry.
Boutte for a player rather than a pick is fine for me.

lets also look into 2027.
Brown will be a year older, with out much in guaranteed money on his deal. Will he be holding out for a new top 5 or 8 deal?
Hollins will be a 33 yrs old free agent
Pop will be a smallish 1 dimensional free agent
Williams and Chism may or may not.

all need to be considered in a deal

Agreed.

in Elliot we trust, right?

Aaahhh......
