I am willing to give Polk at least the preseason to prove he can turn it around. With the coaching disaster last year, I could give any rookie from last year the benefit of the doubt that they are much better than they performed last year.

With this many receivers on the roster, I think few are guaranteed a roster spot at this point. And Polk is not one of them. I think beyond Diggs, Williams, and may Pop; I wouldn't be shocked if any of the rest of the receivers do not make the final 53 man roster.

Polk has gotta get on the field or he is screwed either way. But I don't put too much stock in someone missing the first few days/week of training camp due to some kind of injury.

I read Vrabel said Davis was off due to a "Maintenance Day" or some such garbage.
The article said something about not wanting to run them into the ground...and that he was back at Practice today..
Is that what people are calling a walkthrough these days?

No Hands Ja'Long Polk reminds me of N'Keal Harry.

Of course, it would cost nothing to keep Polk. His 2025 salary is guaranteed. If he is injured and goes on IR, he wouldn't even cost a roster spot. In fact, if he goes, the team would be paying him plus paying his replacement.

If his attitude is OK, it seems likely that Vrabel and Josh would strongly consider trying to develop him for a year, or even two. The situation is the same in 2026.

Right, but within the next two to three weeks, he has to show that he is more valuable than who? Diggs, Pop, Williams are on the roster. Are we keeping 6 or 7? He has to beat Boutte, Bourne, Hollins, Chism, Jiles, Baker, Blankumsee, and Webb. I think the protection a 2nd rounder gets is gone.

Well need in trying to play his rear end out in preseason, in order to have a spot on the team. Seems like chances are very slim.

100%, his draft status should and will have no impact. Either he shows something to earn a spot or he is gone. It's still early and he will have an opportunity, but he better start making a good impression quickly. Right now Chism looks like a better pro prospect (again, very early). If I had to put money on it, I don't think Polk is on the team this year.

Polk will likely not shine during TC and will probably be traded or released.
I get the frustration with him BUT if his shoulder is still hurting, it seems legit that he miss a few TC sessions until he can play. The only way the Pats get some value out of him is to let him heal before putting him out there.
I do not think he is dogging it.

Absolutely not true.

It costs a roster slot to keep Polk. It costs some other player who gets cut to keep Polk. That is far from “nothing”, in fact it’s one of the most valuable things the team has at the moment.

In order to go on IR he first must be on the roster. So that means someone gets cut. It’s not a nothing burger.

Some were suggesting Polk to ATL to be reunited with Penix. Well Mooney is out for several weeks, that door may be a jar.

Of course it's a nothing burger. He could be on the roster for a day. And then, we would consider the cuts made by other teams.

Let us consider the possibility of Polk being injured. If that is so, we could even put him on IR before the final cut and consider him for 2026 at no cost. Or, more likely he would be on the 53 for a day before being put on IR. OR, he could simply not practice and be put on the PUP list.

I understand that there are many here that consider Polk not worth as much as a 7th and want to get rid of him. IMO, it is quite likely if Vrabel saw another project out there that he could have at no cost for a year, he would jump at the chance.

What really bother folks is that one of their binkies wouldn't make the 53. Maybe, maybe not. I think that we are keeping 4-5 WR's plus special teamer Hollins. We can afford a 6th who would be expected to likely be inactive all year. Baker could be that person or Chism could be. or Polk could be. The players we expect to contribute this year are not affected.
DIGGS
WILLIAMS
DOUGLAS (slot)
BOURNE OR BOUTTE
HOLLINS (primarily a STer)

If that is true (bold); would it not also be true that his 2d Rand value to the other 31 is gone as well?……..

Send him to the PRACTICE SQUAD BABY!

Don’t challenge him. He’s starting this camp with a good strategy to meet that challenge.
Step 1. Become faster and quicker.

That's the end of his strategy. He's not fast and quick enough for his size. I'd love to be proven wrong, but when we got footage of him out of last year's OTAs (before he got hurt), I knew what an awful pick he was. He's not an NFL athlete, therefore, he will not be in the NFL for much longer.

I don't have a great feeling about him so this is just to play a little devil's advocate:

Ehhhhhh. If that's so, Big Brain Josh is gonna make their little heads explode.
The hope would be they absorbed enough as rookies to be more prepared for Josh even if it is more complicated. Also for various reasons some just fit one system over another.
Given where he was drafted and the fact no one really can say what his problem is, I think he will and should get a further look, but if after a full year and a full preseason he's still off the rails, I think you have to give his spot to whatever newbie shines. So far, he's apparently hardly been a participant . The whole thing is weird as heck.
Definitely weird but also if you knew you were on such shakey ground it might be best to make sure your soft tissue doesn't turn into a bigger problem by giving it a few days rest. The pads go on Monday if he can get back around then and he's healthy and ready to go maybe the rest of camp he can still turn it around.

Crazier things have happened.

Yes, I think it means that. The practice squad is a good place for him.
