Why are you down on Carter?

Another athletic WR

“Parker, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, is a transfer from Wofford who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds at his Pro Day. The 6-foot-2, 211-pounder bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times and had a 38 1/2 inch vertical leap with an 11-1 broad jump and a 6.64 three-cone drill for an overall Relative Athletic Score of 9.8, an extremely high analytics benchmark.”

Had not heard of this guy.

He is just as raw as Shemar Stewart and Jalon Walker. Carter only has a ghost rush move that he wins with, I know this was his first year as an edge. Everyone is saying he is a blue chip prospect but it is all speculation. In the NFL once OTs realize that he only has the speed rush, ghost move it will be easier for OTs to block him. He has a spin move that is Shawn Crable like, he telegraphs it and does not really set it up. He is also on the ground a lot, when not making tackles.

He has a lot of upside as long as he can take to the coaching he gets, but he has a good amount of things to learn, imo. He is not alright against the run but gets moved pretty easily when trying to set the edge, initially I see him as a pass rush only guy and I think this team needs more from pick 4.

He might take to coaching and learn various pass rush moves and become Myles Garrett but that is a lot of ifs right now. He also has a super fast 1st step off the LOS.

I am not down on him per say, just not as high as others.

You running for office? You're a natural at the double-talk.

An updated attempt to try to deduce some kind of order from the draft contacts. We know of 13 visits so there are 17 that can still be added.

I realise that the contact list is not the be all and end all. Last year we drafted four from it I believe and two of those were the QBs, and I also realise it's probably an incomplete list - we can only go on what the draft media lets us know about. However I do think it's useful in providing a gauge of the type of prospects we're looking at and the range in which we're looking.

1. No clarity at 4. Interesting that Jalon Walker isn't on the list yet.

2. LT won't be taken any later than 38 with a trade up from 38 possible if not taken at 4. No surprise here.

3. If we trade down, a pass rusher is a possibility with our first pick.

4. No Egbuka or Burden on the list is interesting. I can see Egbuka being clean enough that he wouldn't need a visit but Burden? Perhaps we met with him at the Missouri pro day where we sent one of our FO big wigs (I don't remember which one).

5. Back to pass rusher. One before the end of round three is a distinct possibility. There doesn't seem to be any real interest in one after round 3.

6. Probably the biggest signal is that we're looking at adding a speed WR somewhere from round 3 onwards.

7. Possible interest in a round two X receiver (Jayden Higgins and Tre Harris). No Ayomanor yet though.

8. Almost zero interest in guards, with a little interest in late round centers.

9. A speed RB from round 3 onwards. A lightning to Rhamondre's thunder. Treveyon Henderson would have to be under consideration here too I would think. The fact that they've met with them all except Henderson is, ironically, why I have Henderson pencilled in to the 38 pick.

10. No QBs other than two UDFAs. This might change now that Milton has been traded.

11. Josh Simmons is the only Ohio State prospect on the list which was, presumably, a medical check. Vrabel was at the Ohio State pro day but maybe they're trying to hide their interest in Ohio State prospects.

12. There's been no reported interest in TEs since the combine.

13. A late round run stuffing DT. Other than Mason Graham and Joshua Farmer, that's all we've met with since the combine (ie pre free-agency)

14. Almost zero interest in safeties. Some interest in day three cornerbacks.

Maybe. To be honest positives and negatives can be true at the same time. I also am not completely out on him because of his very high ceiling

I imagine this was at the combine or pro day as I’ve not seen a 30 visit mentioned anywhere else. Another speedy RB though.

Adding speed at RB and WR does seem to be a consistent theme.

I'd love it if they took Blue.

If they think that they could reasonably start Lowe at LT with him getting help, adding tet to the WR room would be a great way to go.

Edit: I am not a huge fan of his but he would be an enormous upgrade to what we have.

I like Tet a lot. I feel he is the 2nd best WR behind Hunter. That being said, if we are going to grab a pass catcher at 4 (if Hunter is gone), I would prefer TE Ty Warren. You get more bang for your buck, great pass catcher, good blocker, can run the ball out of wild cat, even had a TD pass (he’s a former QB).

You bring up an interesting point about Lowe, but don’t forget, if we don’t go LT in the 1st round in the draft, most likely they can grab one at 38 or even move back up to grab a LT.

Now, as far as Lowe, I think back to Dante Scarnecchia as the great Oline whisperer. Watch some of the highlights during the first part of the dynasty, look at some of those Olines. Sure, some of them became household names to us older Pat’s fans, but hardly any of them were Pro Bowlers. Scarnecchia was such a great OLine coach, he made Olines with average to below average players into cohesive, good Olines. The 2003 line, I believe they gave up ZERO sacks all throughout the 2003 playoffs. Light, Woody, Koppen, Andruzzi, Ashworth. None of them were all pro players.

So my point being, a great OLine coach can coach up relative no names into serviceable players. MAYBE Marrone can coach up Lowe. Maybe Marrone will be a good OLine coach and will turn Wallace & Robinson into decent players ? You can coach players up.

I do like Warren, but I don't like the history of TEs taking years to evolve into relevance. The bright side is that McD can make a good TE a focal part of the offense. Hunter Henry has said that he would like to be able to teach a young TE if they bring one in.

Yeah I saw the Henry interview and the Warren interview, might’ve been one day apart. I think Henry would be an excellent mentor to Warren, and Warren mentioned he’d love to learn from Henry/Hooper. I just really loved BOTH interviews, besides being a good TE, Henry is a really good person, and I love Warren’s style, he’s really a Patriot type player, he’s humble, doesn’t care about social media, and is all about football. He just wants to do all he can to help his team win.

Btw, lots of TEs were successful in year 1. Gronk and Hernandez come to mind, hell, Henry had 36 catches and 8 TD catches as a rookie behind Antonio Gates. Of course last years top rookie TE Brock Bowers had a MONSTER rookie season. Sam Laporte had a great rookie season.

Now I’m not saying Warren would have a monster season as a rookie for the Pats, but year two isn’t out of the question. And we know that McDaniels does wonders with talented TEs.
