Tavai: “Booing fans should know their place”

"I appreciate them SOMETIMES...."
Sometimes?
What, when you see another MASSIVE check land in your account for all the sucky Entertainment?
He needs to realize that he's, in effect, just a high ticket busker. Telling the folks whom you want to drop a buck in your guitar case to "know your place" is just totally un-self-aware.

Hes an idiot. I don’t care how inexperienced you are, if you’re a patriot and you’re trying to be a champion in this league the least you can do is learn from the best. Tom brady, david andrews come to mind and see what they have said about fans booing.

Sorry but the context doesn't help his case.
As a sane fan, I re-read the entire thing that he said. Contextually it makes sense. But when you just take that quote out it looks real bad.

Objectively speaking, what he says might be right, but in current context when you are losing a lot , more humility might be needed. Trying to rationalize it, is probably the root cause of the issue and the fact that he did not acknowledge the problems in a Prelude makes it seem he is skirting responsibilities or ownership like mayo. The same statement issued in beginning of season or 4 months after a losing season might be interpreted differently. Now when all hell is on fire, the sane thing to do would be to zipper up. Tip your hat to Andrews for his response.

The actual wording is below
what did Andrews say?
There’s a reason why they’re fans. Everybody can say what they think we should be doing, but in the long end they’re not qualified to do what Mayo is doing or whatever the Krafts are doing,”
Based on winning 15 games the last 3 years it's a helluva statement to say Mayo and the Krafts are qualified.
Tavai said on “The Greg Hill Show.” “They’re fans, I appreciate them at times, but sometimes they just gotta understand that it’s a work in progress. Rome wasn’t built in one day.”
Could do without the "appreciate them at times" comment. Regardless reads much better when you remove the "know their place" comment.

Is this the type of “team culture” we want to keep?

The relevant quote: "There's a reason they're fans. Everybody can say what they think we should be doing. They're not qualified to be doing what Mayo is doing or the Krafts are doing or whatever. They're fans. I appreciate them at times, but sometimes they just gotta know their place..."

They are 3-13, heard the interview in it's entirety. Greg Hill has always been anti-mayo so he gets to stand on his soap box for **** like this. The coaching has sucked, the players have sucked... not a hard conclusion. Really doesn't even Matter what Tavai says during a radio interview who gives a ****. He probably won't even be on the roster next season.

I thought coaches worked insane hours. How does he have time for deep personal conversations to hash things out and hug with a different player every single day? No to mention daily afternoon tea with Thunder.

That's the thing. On offense, they have the right mindset for the most part. Maye, Henry, and the linemen are accountable. They are being led by a guy with integrity in AVP.

On defense, that's Mayo's side and it's a clown show. These guys are following his example.
I told everyone the most disappointing part of the team was the defensive side.

Maybe if this dumpster fire of a team played better the fans wouldn't boo. The fans are Paying his salary, I usually don't agree with fans booing, but in this case i think its i can see why they would.

In general it is wrong to tell other people they should “know their place.” This is unambiguously understood by just about everyone to mean that their “place” is inferior. For me it crosses an important line, particularly from an individual employed by an organization that I personally have directly supported for many years with thousands of my hard earned dollars.

In my opinion it reflects an attitude that comes from the top. I will not be mollified by a statement from Tavai, I need to see something from The Scatback and The Nebbish, and The CEO Coach that convinces me they sincerely reject that attitude towards us.
Too bad, all you're getting is "I talked to Tavai, but I am keeping that conversation internal"

How is he right? That's the bargain with fans. When you are doing well they cheer for you and you get homefield advantage. If you really suck you will earn their ire. If you just want them to "sit down and shut up" you will get neither, and in that scenario they may as well stay home and watch on TV.
..and not pay money to watch them play. I'm sure he'd rather we're complaining about his play rather than him screwing up our fast food order.

Make a tackle, Tavai, block a pass, make a freakin' play. Like used to be said around here, "do your job", and perhaps you'll hear a few cheers. Know your place before telling someone else to know their's

No Mayo you freaking idiot we don't want to see wins especially this week. Mayo is so out of touch.
I think he was talking in general and not about this one game.

From "Do Your Job" to "Know Your Place": The Jerod Mayo Story

“There’s a reason why they’re fans … in the long end, they’re not qualified to do what Mayo’s doing,” Tavai said on “The Greg Hill Show” on Friday. I have a News-Flash for you Sunshine: Mayo isn't qualified to do what he's doing!!! I believe he just Gaslighted Patriots Fans with that statement as well. I want his ass out of town after the season too!
