Imo, with the offensive as constuted, the risks FAR out way the rewards an starting him anytime soon.

I'm sure I'll hear that we won't know what we have unless we see him play, or if he can't play now, that means he isn't the right qb.

I'll counter with: so you really wanna take the chance on ruining another qb?

There's a greater chance of him turning into Mac, Anthony Richardson or Anthony Richardson, than cj stroud or jayden daniels

Usually rookie qb that don't get ruined have halfway decent line, weapons or couching.
We have none of it (I am willing to give mayo a chance)

I mean what is the fish. Is it really with the merit likely than not possibility of ruining the kids for 5 wins instead of 4?

I mean, you drop Mahoney this team and doubt they get to 8 wins

I just don't see the long term upside

He's a raw rookie. Just turned 22. And you want to throw him out behind an OL -- which is not just bad -- that may be the worst OL of the Super Bowl era? That's going to be good for his career and development? No elevated risk of injury? In a season that now means next to nothing? You didn't want to draft him, right? I'm not sure if anything other than spite can explain your position.
Every QB has to deal with plays where the pass block in isn’t good. Whether it’s 20% or 50%, dealing with it is what defines Qb play more than anything else. The ol is bad, not epically bad. Brady was sacked 2.9 times a game brissett has been sacked 3.4. That’s 1 every other game and at least that many are on brissett any way. Playing under adversity IS the way to learn to play well under adversity.
Spite? I was in favor of drafting him.

This season means A LOT. It was given away as far as winning is concerned in march when the front office decided not to try to build the best roster it could. So what this season means, what its priority should be is to get the QBOTF on the field, get him experience and prepare him for next year.

Do you really think what’s best for Drake Mayes future is to take a year off from football? Because you are scared? Stop being a ****y.

It’s not about winning this year, that was pissed away in march.
It’s about developing the QBOTF.
QBs don’t get ruined, they get over drafted then show you what they really are.

Brady was sacked 41 times in 413 attempts in 14 in 2001.
Brissett has been sacked 17 times in 135 attempts in 5 games .

Thats 2.93 per game vs 3.4. Arguably Brady getting rid of the ball faster is probably the difference in an extra 1 sack every 2 games.

Are we really going to hold back the future over a sack every 2 games?
We'll soon find out I suspect.

I'm not going to give them a complete pass, but I think they did make a significant effort to improve the team. But it didn't help matters that Belichick left such a mess that they spent a large chunk of the unspent cap space just resigning/extending the few good players they had, and left such a void on offense (especially at QB) that good receivers didn't want to come here.

Signing Jacoby Brissett is not significantly trying to improve the team. They didn’t address the O-line aside from overpaying for Onwenu. Ridley and Aiyuk were the only two highlights which both did the Pats a favor.

I keep seeing Bill being blamed for their current situation. It’s not Bill’s fault they transitioned tagged a player in Dugger who nobody wanted around the league and ended up paying him more than they had to. It’s also not Bill’s fault they overpaid for Owenu before FA in fear he’d bolt for a better deal like Thuney did.

They could’ve cut ties with Bourne. But nope, they re-signed him early in FA.

Nobody forced them to extend Barmore and Rham for absolutely no reason.

While there’s no doubt Bill left them with one of the worst rosters in the league, you are only making things worse by signing some of these players to top of the market deals which have already backfired. It’s sending a really bad message.

Because Maye needs experience.
When I see articles saying 'Maye *on track* to being the Patriots best QB', I can't help but think...how is he not already? He should have been in camp.

I'm more nervous that he doesn't appear engaged in games even.

What effort? They left 40 mill unspent. Their top signing were brissett, Osborne, chunks and Gibson

We are an embarrassment already. Why add injury to insult by feeding Maye to the lions?
To find out if he's any good!

All first round QB's are hyped and almost all of them bust. Maye not being trusted to play ahead of Brissett is not a good sign.

Let Maye sit behind the Hofer Brissett that's a recipe for success Wolf is copying Green Bay. Meanwhile fellow First Rounders Williams Daniels and Nix are getting valuable experience.

Most of the time. Sometimes the floor falls out from below because the coaching was terrible.

I am still neutral on HC Mayo but it's not a great start.

As a rookie Josh Allen (who I think is a good rookie comp for Maye) lost the starters role out of camp to Nathan Peterman. He was forced to play when Peterman got hurt. Maybe this will turn out the same.

You think we will find out if Drake — a raw QB of just 22 — is any good by putting him behind one of the worst OLs in history? And if he fails to put up good numbers under those terrible circumstances, he’s a bust? All while subjecting him to unacceptably high injury risk? That’s your plan?

Breer said yesterday the target is some time in November. I say that is a very realistic guess barring an injury to Brissett. No reason to rush Maye into the line up. I don't need for the Pats to rush him so they can go 5-12 or 6-11 rather than 2-15 or 3-14.

So, just putting Drake Maye into the lineup makes this team about a .500 team in your opinion?

Well it should have been week 1. Could have been today. We would have won. The entire thing is ridiculous.

We can’t play him behind this line… but he’s the backup who goes in the second Brissett gets hurt…Yeah. That makes sense. The plan sucks. The communication of it is even worse. Mayo’s perceived strength has been a fn disaster. Give me BB’s one word answers over this amateur hour any day.

BTW if you’re going to bench a player, bench him. Don’t discuss your options with the media beforehand.

The line wasn’t that bad after the 1st quarter. Brissett was terrible again. At least they put MO back to guard. That should have been obvious two weeks ago.

While Maye sits everyone other rookie improves. Bedard yapping about how he isn’t ready almost makes it sound as if he wasn’t worth the pick. Funny though, every time we see him actually play he looks like a guy with a ton of potential.

Love sat behind Rogers. Rodgers Farve. Mahomes Alex Smith. Young Montana. No stud quarterback sat behind a career backup for a year. It’s almost like they are trying to make him into Trey Lance. He won’t be perfect but he’ll be better than what we’re getting.

The line was good enough for Maye to play today. Face it team was tanking in fn September and won’t admit it.

I simply don’t believe Mayo when he says Brissett gives the team the best chance to win. I don’t think he believes it either.

In the 2021 draft, every first round rookie QB started week except for Trey Lance and three of them are no longer on the team that drafted them and one is a mediocre QB right now.

And did Caleb Williams actually improve yesterday or did he just play the Panthers' defense? Same with Bo Nix vs. the Raiders.

As you pointed out, you look at the best QBs in the league and a quite a few of them sat their rookie year. Just because they were behind starting quality QB doesn't mean they weren't better off sitting and developing.

BTW, Young was in the USFL and then Tampa before he came to San Fran. He was a seasoned veteran sitting behind Montana.

So, just putting Drake Maye into the lineup makes this team about a .500 team in your opinion?

No. I think the Pats probably win maybe 2-3 more games at most with Maye than Brissett. The problems with this team go beyond Brissett.
