33rd Team Ranks Patriots as #1 Roster Most in Need of Help

Patriots proving in week one just how dumb popularity contests/lists like this one ^ are... laughable.

There are a few rosters - Carolina, NYG - who are already heading for the first few picks next Spring.

If this team kept its defense as is and had a high post offense they’re a Super Bowl contender

The exciting part is a lot of the offense are still “what ifs”

So it’s tough to tell how good this roster is based on unrealized potential, but on paper it’s easily a bottom 5 roster and I don’t know if theres much debate around that

BOTTOM 5 ROSTER - NO DEBATE?

1) The Defense is top 10.
2) The special teams are at least average.
3) The TE's are at least average.
4) The RB's are at least average.
5) The WR's are bottom 5.
6) 4/5 of the OL is at least average.
7) The LT is the bottom 5.
8) WR's are bottom 10.
9) QB's are bottom 10 for now
================
I did OK at math.
This analysis doesn't come close to being that of a bottom 5 roster.

Yep; Daboll’s a dead man walking, and Bryce Young’s so bad that if the Panthers had chosen Stroud instead of this midget, then Little Nicky Cesar would be out of a job already.

You list nothing above average outside of the defense being top ten (remains to be seen) and three of your other nine at below average.

All pros? None
Pro bowl starters? None
Pro bowl back ups?
Pro Bowl alternates? None

One of only four teams (New England, Green Bay, Carolina, Washington) to pull off that feat last year. I’m not sure what incredible high talent off season acquisition improved any of that.

They have a better roster than Carolina, I’d say comparable to Washington and not as good as Green Bay.

I’d put them ahead of the Panthers, Giants and Denver and in the same camp as Washington.

This isn't true. There's one starting-caliber offensive lineman on that line right now. Onwenu.

How did the Pats roster look when Bledsoe got knocked out and they had a losing record when they turned it over to a 6th round QB?

I was already looking forward to the next years draft, until Brady happened.

As nice as high draft picks are, the winning mentality that developed was priceless, and really instrumental to the growth of the dynasty.

Maybe we’ll get lucky?

The defense is legit and the players love Mayo.

On offense you have them weak at QB/WR/LT. That eclipses however "average" they may be at RB/TE/other OL spots. If it proves to be true that they are bottom 5-10 at all those other spots, then they will end up being totally inept on that side of the ball.

We'll see if top 10 defense holds true. The problem in recent years for them has been they have enough base-level talent across the board and quality coaching to be competent always, but the lack of high end talent has cost them in high profile matchups. They've been very extreme in terms of playing well against bad teams and struggling with bad teams. The ineptitude of the offense has also causes a lot of teams to play "keep away" in the 2nd halves which has padded PPG numbers.

I think Higgins being out also hid their weakness in matching up to boundary receivers against teams that have a second guy besides the one Gonzalez can match up with. I'm not a believer in their DT options besides Godchaux over the long haul (obviously excluding Barmore since he's out). While the safeties are a bunch of good players I still think there's a matchup issue against teams that force those guys to defend deep (MIA has killed us there with Hill and Waddle, for example). It's a quality unit, but I think these things will hold it back from being top 10.

In order for it to get to that level defense, I think they're going to need White and Gonzalez to maintain high end performance like they showed potential for on Sunday and maybe Barmore to come back. They get that, and I think they can vault into the top 10 (probably higher if they get all 3).

At the end of the year, I think you'll see a still inept offense overall and a defense that plays well week to week but still needs top talent to be a real force of a unit. I think that does put them in a bottom 5 overall roster.

I think Sow is too. Robinson looks like he belongs, so that might be one more.
Sow last year and Robinson through 1 game definitely look "starting caliber". But if someone wanted to be cautious or outright negative then they can call those guys unproven.

Yeah, there’s some holes on the O-line, noticeably LT and our backups, but it might not be as bad as advertised.

Lowe did not have a great game probably below average, but he was up against Hendrickson who is a good/great pass rusher and he had not practiced in what 2 weeks or so. He is never going to be top tier but I think he is going to be alright. I am still hoping Wallace or Jacobs gets some run in practice at LT because I think both guys have a higher ceiling than Lowe.

And can hopefully be a better backup than Chuks.
