DRAFT 2024 2nd Round Pick - WR Ja'Lynn Polk

We need to let Harry go. Players like him succeed a lot, just not him.

Harry was a big time recruit who put up almost 60 rec/700 5td as a true FO and had 2 1k seasons / 17 TD after that. Had a very nice combine at 6'2/228 - 4.54, 27 reps, 38.5 vert, 10.2 jump. The dots were there as a prospect. It's really not hard to figure out why teams liked him.

Also it's almost accepted that the 49ers had him WR1/2 and were taking him if we didn't. Albeit not it the 1st but he would still have been a top 40 pick.

**** happens
His college coach thinks he failed due to lack of character, essentially. He liked what football gave him, not football itself. In college, his talent allowed him to succeed without hard work. That doesn't fly in the NFL.

Would've been nice if he (Sperm Edwards?) had shared that wee bit o' knowledge with Bill...

The same because Wolf and Groh are to blame for our last three drafts not BB. These two second round picks are exactly the same thing as recent years, not the BPA approach BB took before Kraft brought in oversight. I hope I’m wrong but I’m fairly certain I’m not. Time will tell.

This is complete and utter ********. Belichick made the final decisions on all draft picks , period.

Felger gave their draft an F.

Then they must have had a great draft, because no one knows less about it than Felger does, and that’s by his own takes on it. Felger is on record, repeatedly talking about how much he hates the draft, and thinks discussing it and paying attention to it is a complete waste of time. Back around 2006-2007 I had to work the Saturday of the Draft and Felger got stuck doing the radio call of it for them, and he went on and on about how much he hated it, and urged callers to talk about anything other than the draft while he was on the air.

The other point related to this is that Felger made the decision long ago that the best way to get attention is to piss people off and play the contrarian. He says **** simply to aggravate people, not to make a salient point and back it up. He’s a useless sack of ****.

That's an interesting tidbit right there about the 9ers. For all the talk about how we should have taken Deebo instead of Harry, the 9ers were prepared to make the exact same mistake.

Then Kraft was a liar when he said they've changed and that Belichick would have to defer to others more?

We don't know what more means. We only know Belichick can't be like the scouts and know the ins and outs of every player.

Are you super confident that Tyquan Thornton wasn't a Wolf special? That Belichick just went along with the personnel guys when we took JuJu over Jakobi? When we took Mac Jones, my antenna went up as soon as Belichick repeated "Are we sure? a couple of times right before they took him, almost as though there was mixed feeling in the room.

I take your point that Belichick's question was maybe of the same variety of "Speak now or forever hold your peace..." but the fact that he floated it out there was a test to those who might've felt pretty strongly in the negative about the pick.

It's funny how the BB haters were ecstatic and gleeful when Kraft announced prior to the 2021 draft that the operation was becoming a collaboration... it was a total celebration.

After how ended... "BB made the final decisions on all personnel matters."

Laughable how they pretend now we didn't all hear Robert Kraft say that... not the least bit hypocritical at all.

I remember Kraft saying they wanted more collaboration, but I never heard anyone say or suggest that Belichick didn’t have final authority. And the only picks I ever heard Belichick credit others for were the Barmore pick, who he attributed to Wolf, and the Tre Nixon pick, Ernie Adams. Overall I think Belichick had final say both good and bad on personnel right up to the very end. As far as the quote from Kraft I would have to see exactly what it said to know whether he was lying or not. He’s certainly not above it.

As far as the Mac Jones pick goes he played for Belichick’s closest ally in the coaching ranks, and he has a long history of taking players from college coaches he’s close to. I have absolutely no idea who else in the organization said what about picking Jones because there has never been any reporting on that. There has been speculation from some, but nothing factual at all.

As far as Wolf goes I think the same thing as I said of Belichick, he’s responsible for this draft, and he was also in charge of their free agency decisions. Whether people agree with what he’s done or not done it’s in him. I don’t think he should be blamed for Belichick’s drafts. And free agency on anecdotal evidence, and I think he should be held accountable for their success or failures on the personnel front once we have results to go on.

As far as Belichick goes I think he’s the GOAT coach and have defended him for years. I would have been fine with him staying as coach, but didn’t believe he should have been allowed to run personnel anymore.

If you are referring to me as a Belichick hater then you really have no idea about my posting history. I supported Belichick throughout his entire time here, and have defended him hundreds, if not thousands of times. I have been labeled as a Belichick homer for over 20 years, and still consider him the GOAT.

"Leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft, the 49ers were fans of N’Keal Harry and supposedly liked him more than Deebo Samuel before New England selected Harry in the first round. Both John Lynch and Adam Peters were at Arizona State’s Pro Day."

Lynch talking about Aiyuk.
"We started noticing him when we were studying N'Keal Harry (leading to the 2019 draft)," Lynch explained to Colin Cowherd on Tuesday. "N'Keal is a player that we had great interest in last year. He's now with the Patriots. As we were studying him, we kept saying, 'Who's this dude? This guy is pretty good.' He kept showing up in spurts."

"Lynch went on to explain how close he is with Arizona State coach Herm Edwards, who was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff during Lynch's time there as a player. Edwards is one of Lynch's closest friends. They are each the godfathers to one of the other's children."

I will say Aiyuk deserves a ton of credit for making himself into one of the better rr in the league. He was a **** rr coming out. Really had to learn the position. Obviously worked his ass off out the shadows of Deebo and even Kittle as the WR1 on that team.

Fwiw I didnt think Bill was in love with Mac either. Despite the Saban connections. I think Mac fell to us and was a big position of need. I might have been off a little with how much Josh likedd him but who knows. Someone obviously loved the pick.

"Like many of Bill's picks he wouldn't have been my choice but like you I'm happy we have a QB with some promise/hope. I like Mac a lot tbh just don't like the value here."

"I genuinely believe Bill & Josh signed off on this considering Josh is going to be hip to hip with him. Maybe Kraft too. Doesn't feel like a Bill pick, who knows. Like we waited, he fell. This wasn't an urgent pick, plenty of opportunities to jump up for Fields or Mac and they did neither. I feel like Bill gave clearance and basically Josh picked the guy he would be most comfortable working with towards success. Bill made the pick but I honestly believe Josh is the one picked the guy after the team spent what they did in FA to get this thing back on track."

I clearly remember that appalling performance by Felger. It was the worst draft "coverage" in the history of radio. Far worse than anything Howard Cosell spewed out. For hours all Felger said about the draft was how he had no idea of who the drafted players were and how he hated the draft. It is one thing to be lazy and not do your homework, but it is another to brag about it for hours.

Well someone gave Felger a talking to and now he tries to cover it a bit, but he is hardly an authority. And you can tell that his heart is not in it.

On paper the drafts looks pretty poor since the Patriots somehow, inspite of having high picks, managed to end up with no LT or elite WR and an untested QB. That being said, Maye is starting to show some promise as is Baker so maybe the draft is not as poor as it seemed at face value.

In this draft they did well with what they had. They had high picks but had to use #3 on Maye, so taking that out of the equation, they were picking lower than everyone else. They get credit for staying put and not screwing up the Maye pick, who could be our Herbert.

Unless they wanted to part with a 3rd and/or 4th to move up from 34 or 68, they took the best WR available in their view in the low-mid 30's, and the best OT available at 68. I really liked the trade down from 34 to 37 which enabled them to not only get Polk but Baker. Also we now know why they took Robinson in the early 4th round given the Strange situation. Milton is a long shot but I like the gamble.

Did Kraft hold an impromptu press conference prior to the 2021 draft and announce it was becoming a collaboration or not?

It’s odd how many here can’t admit something we all witnessed actually happened.

I sad that Kraft said they wanted more collaboration, he never said Belichick didn’t have final say. If you want to challenge something you should read it first.

Go read the first sentence in my response to Uostster, about 4-5 posts above this.

BB always collaborated with his scouts and personnel people. Kraft stated things changed in 2021, you saying "Bill had final say" pales in relation to the guy signing the checks saying it changed.

None of this is ever factual... people don't really come out after the fact and say these things.

But we've seen a couple articles out there, one by Callahan saying Bill wanted Jakobi over JuJu, and another saying he wanted Davis Mills in the 3rd over Mac Jones.
