DeAndre Hopkins released (And Ongoing Rumors)

Any team that wants to sign him is probably pushing the cost into future seasons, so if Buf or KC want him, they can pay him. The real question is who wants him the most? And will he turn down certain places even if they're willing to pay him the most?

ken you can't get something for nothing Juju was a step we need more: Juju is not the outside WR D-Hop is. We have to keep up with the competition especially in our Division. Mac is the kind of QB that will look good with Good players around him...not the other way around We have the $$$$$.
Not questioning the value of the player even though he's missed 14 games the last 2 season. He is entering his ELEVENTH season, P. That's a LOT of mileage on the tires. He'd be a great fit for a top 5 contending team, which we are not. If he really wanted to be here, AND he'd be willing to come for less than what he's worth, I'd be a Logan to greet him, and drive him down to Foxboro. But the FACT remains that we won't even get a visit

Hey. they likely will make a call and do their due diligence, as they should, but YOU know in your heart nothing is going to come of this, If this were the 2018/19 roster, I'd go all out, But it's not.

Who else is out there who could help at WR or TE. (a REAL TE)

KC always adds a Vet like Sam Watkins or a JuJu.

KC is my 1st choice.
Bills are my 2nd choice. Hopkins and Diggs puts Buffalo over the top.
Jets are my 3rd choice.

Very torn on him. If i knew im getting the hopkins of last year id be all in even if it cost around 15m per. But im also feeling julio jones pre ‘21 vibes when i had wanted him then too.

KC could open $33 million of cap space just with simple restructures of Mahomes and Thuney’s deals. They could pay for him if they wanted.

One advantage Pats have: Hopkins would be the number 1 option here which would be best for his long term earnings rather than sharing targets with Diggs or Kelce etc.

Mahomes already restructured his deal this year... iirc, you cant restructure more than once in a league year... The chiefs are so top heavy, that 4 guys eat up over 40% of their cap space with their respective cap hits... mhomo, jones, thuney and kelce

bills have some wiggle room to create space

jete still have to worry about getting arodgers his new deal before considering hopkins

Eh. Long term. He's pretty close to the end of the road NOW.

If we were contenders and needed a WR I’d be in, but he’s on his last legs and I’d rather see what we have in our younger players

You’re correct. Shame on me and overthecap.com.

No way Chiefs or Bills can take offer Hopkins the kind of dough he would expect. The only playoff team in the top ten of cap space is Cincy. Pats are 11th
New contracts - even large ones - can easily be structured to have a very low year 1 cap impact. I have no doubt both KC and Buffalo could restructure here or there to make space.

How much of his salary is being guaranteed by the cardinals ?
They cut him outright*. None of the dollars on his next deal will come from Arizona.

*Supposedly they could still trade him between now and 4:00 PM, but the above assumes he is indeed cut outright.

Anybody notice this joke has caught on for Twitter? I've seen other teams rumored to get players and this picture appears. Seems like lots of fans from other teams lurk here.
Do we know who this guy is. Probably the most famous person on football forums.

Over the last 3 years Hopkins has fallen from being a top 10 WR in the league to be "merely" a good one. Yes, we probably COULD do a two year contract and push most the cap consequence into next year, which is what any team will do to sign him.

My guess is he'll take a 2 year $20MM deal from one of the top competitors, or something closer to a 2 year $30MM from the likes of us. I doubt he's even a possibility here given the friction between him and BOB (assuming the dislike is actually exists).

Is ti worth an estimated $20+MM cap hit next year for a WR who is now JUST a good, aging, and injury prone WR in a year where you are still building you program? I don't think so, even if he WANTED to come here, which he evidently doesn't. So that pretty much sums it up. All that being said I WOULD consider signing him to a $5MM contract with another $5+million in playing an performance incentives. But do you REALLY see Hopkins signing a deal like that?

I hope this will end up being a rather short thread and we can spend our time talking about things that may actually concern the Patriots.
Hops been injured alot the last few seasons so he's missed time.. however when he's been out there he's been dynamic. He's still elite, still one of the top WRs in the NFL. He'd immediately help any team. It would all come down to what he untlimately wants.. money won't really be much of an issue as he's owed 19/Mill, I think Arizona would be on the hook for some of that? So I'm sure if we pursued him and he agreed to come here it would be an incentive laden deal like the patriots famously love to do. However it's all on what hop decides to do!

Aren’t you clever? Say he goes to KC and has JuJu numbers compared to coming here and has 110 catches and 15 TDs. Under what circumstance do you foresee him making more when he’s a doddering old man of 31 and 32 in 2024 and 2025.

They couldn’t wait another week so he would be a post June 1 designation? That’s a big dead cap hit…
