Patriots Player Departure FA: Add A Veteran QB back up? Pats to cut Hoyer...

I must be seeing a different graphic on my iPhone. I was just kidding anyway.

The two circles with dots in the middle is what I was referring to. I know, bad joke.
Nah man. I was thinking the same thing, and I’m an ass man.

He's there primarily as a quasi-coach for Jones and Zappe, which he could do almost as well from IR as on the 53.
For home games, sure... He can't travel with the team though

Right now our QB room consists of Mac Jones, the presumed starter, 2nd year guy Bailey Zappe, and Brian "On A Milk Carton" Hoyer...

Hoyer went on walkabout last year, spending the last 13 games of the year vacationing on the IRiveria...

This something we need to address? Do we need a more dependable QB3? Perhaps a better than Bailey QB2? some interesting names on the lower end of the QB free agent list are available... Im not talking about guys like Teddy Bridgewater or Andy Dalton or sad sacks like Nathan Peterman and those around his level of suckage.. but some of the guys who are available include, in no particular order of relevance:
  • Jarrett Stidham
  • Taylor Heineken (yeah, a punny joke)
  • Gardner Minshew
  • Jacoby Brisette

There might be a few others worth looking at... not quite sure, as no exhaustive analysis (at all) has been performed... Just a thought spitballin' around in my head after reading that Heineken was now a free agent...

Time to retire the soon to be 39 year old Hoyer? or keep him around to finish out his deal?
Couple of former Patriots we should bring Stiddy back he played well last year. I don't think there's a big drop for him to our possible Starter.

Pretty much secure in the thinking he's a career back up? That's how I think of him... I do think the raiders / josh will do what they can to hold on to him... Tbh, I don't think he adds anything more to the QB room than Zappe does at this point

I am not elevating Mac in anyway until I see more I think he's overrated by some here.

Hoyer (well, his contract) isn't going anywhere. Zappe is QB2 (and I hope he gets a shot to press Mac for QB1 in camp). Mac is QB1 (but on a shortish leash). I see a really late draft pick for camp arm/practice squad.

Macs drama will play out this year... I dont think anyone is fully sold on him long term, but as the saying goes, He'll do until we find someone better

Imagine what our scrappy little Corky will be seeking in a couple of years....

That's IF he's still in the league nice to see you back borgie. :)

Is $45Mill the going rate for above/average QB these days?? I would make sure I spend some capital on one this year If I'm the Giants take the BPA @ QB in the Second Round.

I like Daniel Jones more than most but I'm not paying him a tier 1 QB rate. NYG should talk to Baltimore about a trade for Jackson.

My guess is that the Pats will draft a mid round developmental QB and may cut Hoyer and offer him a coaching role. Bill O'Brien likes him. Zappe has shown he is good enough to come in and start a few games if necessary.

IF we Trade-Down and get a extra pick in the Second or Third I'm for taking one there. But the guy below would be tempting even @ 14 love his Size.

It's possible, but he's on record saying Mrs. Hoyer is not thrilled with the idea of him working longer hours for less pay.

It would be a terrible use of resources at this point, given that—in historical terms—Jones had one of the best rookie seasons ever.

Pats plan to cut Hoyer per pft

Was just about to post this. Yeah, I think Hoyer's time is over. I think he will make a fine QB coach, not sure if he wants to take the pay cut. I wonder what the NFL would say if the Pats tried to hire him as a coach while still paying him his guaranteed salary?

Not a bad career for an UDFA.
