No reasonable person should have expected Mac to take down Chandler Jones there... He was caught by surprise and was therefore out of position relative to his balance & leverage, all of which he would've needed just to have a chance...
My issue is: Why no Hail Mary attempt? This is the Christmas season, after all...
Belichick would still be looking for his 3rd ring if it were not for getting lucky and drafting Brady ......While he will end up in the hall of fame and is one of the smarter coaches in the league (when he was in his glory years), the bottom line is he is overrated and has guys like Brady and Lawrence Taylor along with Bill Parcells to thank a ton for his 'Legacy' ...hes really a joke now and needs to retire...Sean Payton is the best guy for next year who can get this team back on track if he wants to come to this poor situation. - Like it or not the fact is the Patriots will never get back to being an elite team until this coaching staff including BB has left the building and the true rebuild begins, its not what has happened in the past, its NOW and NOW is the time to let him go Mr. Kraft
I hate drama. And we’ve got drama now with the NEP. Reminds me of the end of the Pete Carroll era here and the poor drafting of Bobby Grier.
The question is the ownership and when do they draw a line in the sand. We can speculate when that will be. But make no mistake. This is a multibillion business. No one person, however important, is bigger than it is.
I can almost anticipate demands on the coach being made.
“Bill, we want you to surpass Don Shula. But you’re going to have make compromises from here on out. We have a GM approved by both parties. And changes in the coaching need to made, principally on the offensive side.
“Can you work in this environment, Bill?”
And truthfully it’s the standard operating procedure for every other coach in the league.
I just had a chance to look at the play that cost the Pats the game. I am saying "WTF" because I have no idea what Jakobi Meyers was thinking. There were only RAIDER players in the area where he threw the ball.
I mean, I don't even fully understand Rhamondre's lateral unless he was hoping that Meyers would step out of bounds to stop the clock for a long field goal.
If this was one of Patricia's "signature plays" it needs to be s**tcanned like him.
My two main thoughts on this play (besides %$&*!):
- Given the season-long sloppiness and mental errors -- including this game up until the little replay-killed rally -- something like this was inevitable.
- I guess we'll never know what the coaches' instructions were. But it sucks that the gaffe involved the two players who, if I had to blow up this offense and was told I could only keep two players, these would be the two guys.

We do know what the coach's instructions were. They were told to play for OT. They ignored those instructions. They both said so in their post-game interviews.
The bigger question is, if they're playing for OT and not throwing a Hail Mary, then why run a draw play? Just kneel on it if you want to go to overtime.
The Bears game was the first half decent defense Zappe faced and he looked like he didn't belong in the league. Zappe's ceiling is much lower than Mac's.
Privately I suspect opposing coaches like the guy in Arizona are labeling this inept offense with choice words.
Will a writer after the season use confidential sources from other teams how they are dismissive of it. No fear. Hardly any chunk plays. Not incorporating the rookie speed burner. The obvious underutilization of Bourne and the TEs. How Agholor is a first round talent with bad hands. Etc, etc.
Each age has its obligations. A person of my vintage plays the prickly naysaying role, which I quite enjoy. Every so often, I affect a more positive outlook, but my heart rarely leaps at that dreary task.
I could not care less if BB surpasses Shula. And I despise Shula and like BB. Time for a reset.
I'm spoiled by 2 decades of good coaching and can no longer tolerate the clown car style of ineptness I watched for most years last century.

What are you talking about? I said the play was called a draw in the first part and I question why run that play at all if they're playing for overtime (like they said they were) in the second. Those aren't contradictory statements.
We know what the coach's instructions were because Rham and Jakobi both said what they were supposed to do on that play during their interviews.
Can you imagine being Kraft and writing checks to the tune of a quarter billion dollars in FA, and then sitting in your owners box watching this **** show unfold?
More specifically, what is the value of Jonnu Smith, the $50 million TE, who was targeted a couple of times early against the Raiders and then disappeared?
Or a great Patriot like Devin McCourty who is obviously not the player he once was for so many years. He is being paid $9 million this year, the seventh highest at his position in the league and the 11th highest in the team.

In my opinion, if Bill goes after a vet in free agency or via trade it’s because he doesn’t think Mac is the guy and he will part ways with him get a draft pick and ride Zappe as a backup.
