I'm not sure it's that simple, QBs aren't the final product as rookies and it can take a few years before you know what you have. I think we have to find out what If mac can be the guy and you only can do that by sticking with him for a period of time. Sure if he starts losing games by throwing multiple picks they will eventually pull him but i think they will allow some growing pains to see if he can develop.

It is that simple: best players play. If Mac emerges from the bye as starter his status, in that respect, is reconfirmed. Of immediate concern is the balance of this season. It very well could be that Zappe has the potential to eventually develop into starter material but the answer to that question most likely will have to wait 'til next training camp.

I'm not claiming that Zappy is the answer; only that, based on the circumstances, he should've started vs da Bears because Mac wasn't close enough to 100% to justify making the switch... And, depending on how he looked if he didn't have to start the game in a 10-0 hole, maybe he keeps the job vs the Jete & Clots... All I know is that we might very possibly have won each of the last two games even easier if Zappy had been the QB instead of Mac.
Hoping Jete sign Mo Lewis for this game

None of this relates directly to or refutes my post. I get that you like Zappe and he definitely has performed well under certain circumstances, but if "the evidence points to everything" I said "being wrong," why hasn't Bailey supplanted Mac as starting quarterback?
Who knows, there are n number of reasons that could be. Maybe BB doesn't want to give up on Jones just yet. Or maybe Mac is playing better in practice and sh*tting the bed in games.

And it sure does refute your post. You stated Zappe would have been killed more than Mac because he doesn't recognize the blitz or can't work against man coverage. The fact that he is recognizing the defense, as stated by BB, and played well against the Browns, who are #8 in pass defense and spend the 10th most time in man coverage in the league says that your assumptions are incorrect.

The Election is Over. PatsFans have spoken. Team Zappe with a resounding Win, crossing the 58% threshold and Over 100 votes.

Your move Bill.

Mac...
Led 2 TD drives in his last 4 appearances (0, 0, 1, 1) and completed 1 passing TD (0, 0, 0, 1)

Zappe...
Led 10 TD drives in his last 4 appearances (2, 1, 5, 2) and completed 5 passing TDs (1, 1, 2, 1)

Note: Both QBs played in 2 of these 4 games

That graphic is a bit confusing so help me out here...are you saying that out of 175 voters...Zappe has 102 votes and Mac has 73? This seems to imply that most of the voters that participated in this poll favored Zappe over Mac?

Idk how long did the dolphins give Tua, or the eagles give hurts, or the bills give Josh Allen.

Corky's not in the same area code physically as the other 3... It was his quarterbacking acumen that was supposed to separate him from the others in his class... Unfortunately for us, he looks absolutely ****ing Lost, no thanks to his OL, OL coach, Play-Caller & QB coach... Yet with the very same people ham-stringing him, Zappy has looked like an actual league-average QB... Hmmm...

A couple weeks before that the majority of the board voted that Mac was the QB of the future.

Field Goal Mac and TD Zappe.

Blasphemy I didn't vote I demand a recount.

Zappe would have been absolutely killed vs. the Jete and Mac nearly WAS killed. The biggest difference between them being Mac's experience level. Zappe is really good at selling play-action and can get the ball out quickly when he (A) has max protection and doesn't need to sniff out where the blitz is coming from plus (B) isn't working against skilled man-covering DBs (i.e., zones allowing receivers separation). Against either the Jete or Colts he would've looked like Ehlinger out there. The bottom line is this: Mac is not playing well because the offense is effed up; about 40 percent of that is because of the OL, 40 percent on Patricia and 20 percent on Mac directly. You need to have faith that if BB/Patricia/Judge believed Zappe gave the Pats a better chance of winning, he'd be out there. They know what they have in those two, problem being they haven't done a good job putting it all together.
,
Puhleeze. They do not "know what they have" in Mac (nor in Zappe). They THOUGHT they did re Mac in the beginning of the year, but they were wrong, weren't they? I do certainly agree that Matt is an utter disaster and I understand the argument that we cannot make a final determination re Mac until his coaching/playcalling is at least adequate, but, again, the idea - given the facts to this point this year - that they know Mac is the guy is just nonsense.

Unfortunately this is not a very accurate comparison because in those games that Mac played...the opponents uniforms were uglier then when Zappe was at QB.

Macs ankle is still brittle.

Thats why winning these last 2 games vs quality opponents before the BYE was so crucial. Mac did it on only 1 ankle. When Mac returns on November 20th he will have 2 ankles again like everyone else. Then you will see the full power of this NE offense as they march to the playoffs with General Mac.

Zappe is a bum and coffee fetcher. The Patriots send him down to Dunkin Donuts and pray that he doesn't screw the order all up. They only have Crispy Creme in Kentucky.
The Zappe comments are childish, churlish, and unnecessary.

...and were written in jest... Triumph's merely been channelling his inner Andy Kaufman lately...
I concede that Plunkett, Grogan, Eason, Bledsoe and Brady all had more experienced offensive coaches in their second professional seasons.

And more experienced and better talent surrounding them.

The media lost their minds over the hiring of Matt & Joe.

The media.

Is it really necessary for me to point out the endless mindless hysteria the media initiates, particularly about the Patriots?

Matt & Joe got head coach positions for a reason. They earned it.

There are lots of offensive coaches in the this league today who are doing a much worse job than those two are right now.

The Hall of Fame is packed with quarterbacks who were horrendously putrid in their first one or two seasons.

So what does all this have to do with Mac? I think he can be a serviceable NFL quarterback. The Patriots obviously have invested a lot in him.

It's up to Belichick. Roethlisberger did not totally light it up when he got the chance to play as a rookie, but Maddox was hurt so Cowher had to keep the kid in there. Obviously a better team, but the Patriots this year look night and day different with Bailey in there. By different, I mean much better.
