Saw this stat, Jones is 206 yards shy of 5,000 career passing yards entering his 23rd career game. If done this Sunday against the Colts, he will be the second-fastest to 5,000 passing yards in Patriots history -- Drew Bledsoe did it in 22 games.
You sure that's not a typo??

We've gotten a ton of mileage out of low rounders and guys nobody else wanted. They do often bust it much harder to make it.
This too

This is also why Belichick gets a lot of undrafted guys. They'll all work hard, and there's always a few that make it

IF I was Tua I would be saying something smells being so close to Mac that's unfair.

That's nice. I hope Sunshine accomplishes this feet putting him in the anals of Patriots history.

More impressive though is getting 5,000 yards in a single season (only 9 have done it). The most impressive being Marino who did it in 1984 at 23 yo (wow). That record held until Brees did it in 2008 (& 5 total times). Youngest QBs to do it since at 23 years are Stafford, Mahomes, & Herbert. The oldest to do it, our very own Tom Terrific "The Comeback Kid" Brady at the ripe age of 44!

Sunshine is already 24 so he can't join the others as the youngest, but maybe just maybe, he can do it at 45 yo, hopefully still, as a NEP.

Not my words, but it's hard to disagree

I really wish Mac would just go back to managing the game and sprinkle in some long balls. TT has been getting open but Mac isnt going his way a lot yet, which I understand

This can't be true. A few here continually brag about Sunshine being #1 in deep passes. Must be those deep INTs.

Even though Allen is speaking about Zach Wilson, I'm sure he has the same sentiment about Mac:

Allen said being patience allowed him to develop his game.

"Sometimes it takes a little longer," he said. "It took me a while to kind of understand the nuances of this game and trying not to do too much. I think that's what it comes down to, not trying to do too much and allowing you to trust your guys on the field with you."

Those of you that keep bringing up Josh Allen's first two years, ignore how much he improved from Yr 1 to Yr 2. He was deemed a project his first year and had terrible numbers. He increased his TD% by +39%, rating by +26%, reduced his INT% by -53%, his Sack% by -5%. All of these stats: Y/A, AY/A, Y/G, NY/A, ANY/A increased. His winning % increased by +38% with a solid 10-6 record. He exploded in his 3rd year.

Mac has done the opposite from Yr 1 to Yr 2. He was deemed the most NFL QB ready rookie coming out of the draft and had above average numbers his rookie season, making the playoffs & even the Pro Bowl. So far, he's decreased his TD% by -48%, rating by -21%, increased his INT% by +104%, his Sack % by +31%. All of these stats: Y/A, AY/A, Y/G, NY/A, ANY/A have decreased. His winning % has decreased by -32% with a 2-3 record so far.

I know that we're only half way through the season and things can change but if you look at the Sophomore seasons to date of these two QBs, they are mirror images of each other. Allen improved a lot. Mac has regressed a lot. Hopefully he turns it around. The game on Sunday will go a long way to show that he gets it.

very good post. It's hard to ignore facts. Josh Allen however had Brian Daboll as his offensive coordinator for his first 4 years, thereby facilitating his improvement. Mac had BB pull the rug out from under him. Not only did McDanels leave but for some crazy reason BB thought it would be a good idea to have Joe Judge as Mac's QB coach. To some extent the regression this year has to be blamed squarely on Bill's insane decisions around who is best to coach Mac in only his 2nd year.
I never thought MAC would be elite...but for g-ds sake.....the coaching strategy for him this year is non sensical.

Not saying he's going to be Josh Allen just that it takes some QB's some time to figure things out, some take 2 years, some might take 3 or 4, we need to give him time before we kick his ass to the curb.

So much for why they weren't giving Mac more PA plays. More false narratives exposed as trash.

We saw how Hurts ran RPOs on TNF. LBs would freeze waiting to see if he kept it & ran, handed it off or passed. Mac is just handing it off to a RB or passing. I believe he's just passed it so far. That's not going to fool Ds for very long.

Zappe is clearly the future. This is a tough situation. I think MJ’s perceived value—and subsequent trade value—would take a hit being demoted.

Is BB waiting for Hoyer to be able to backup Zappe before he begins dangling Jones?
