Player Signing Patriots to sign Jamie Collins

He's older and a lot slower this time around Ash: I don't think he's going to help much.
I'd rather see Jaime out there than Tavai. 100%

Unless some of the younger players start to show up, we really need to address linebackers in 2023 free agency... Spend some of RKKs filthy lucre on some sweet sweet thumpers

He will play as usual 1 or 2 good games then...
Not excited at all...

Before the draft, many of us identified linebacker as a big need.

The Patriots didn't draft a single linebacker in the 2022 NFL draft, instead they drafted an offensive guard in round 1.

If they had stayed put they could have drafted this guy at #27 LB Devin Lloyd.

Lloyd already has 38 combined tackles, 2 INTs, and 6 pass deflections through 4 games.

Damn, another one that got away!

Great job there, BB!

I liked the trade-down from 21 to 29... Just not the players chosen with those picks...

I was really disappointed however in the FO's lack of aggression in the UDFA market, where I thought there were still some decent prospects to be had, such as JoJo Domann, Jeremiah Moon, Jack Sanborn, Sterling Weatherford, Nathan Landman, Ole Fatukasi, and Alabama's Christopher Allen...

UGH.. I hate that they are bringing this guy back. He's good for a couple GOOD plays a season. But he's crap beyond that.
Collins was an All Pro/Pro Bowler and led this team in every stat imaginable in 2019 including tackles, solo tackles, tackles for a loss, forced fumbles and was third in interceptions on the #1 ranked defense in the league… but he’s crap. I want to understand how that works?

He led his team in tackles in 2014, 2015, 2016 until he was traded, 2018 on the Browns, 2019 back on the Patriots, and 2020 on the Lions, 6 times on three different teams….. but he’s crap.

Sounds legit...

JaWrong Bentley, who Just Plain Sucks...
Led us in tackles last year, leading us in tackles right now...

Boy if they had an award for really telling it how it isn't, you would win every year.

The two biggest issues we had last season was LB and O-Line that needed to be addressed in the off-season. Belichick did nothing to fix either and now left signing retreads like Cannon and Collins hoping and praying they can make some marginal improvement on the situation. Sad

At this point on this team I’d take a single all-pro, somewhere, anywhere

Yeah. It's so f'in legit to spazz like you are over stats from 3 years ago as if they have ANY impact today. Collins, for all his athleticism never figured out how to cover TEs. Had he been able to cover them in 2015 against Denver, we'd have beaten them despite all the injuries.

Collins was one of many horrible pieces on a horrible 2020 Detroit team. Collins did jack squat outside of 2 plays last year. He was responsible for one of the blocked punts against Bailey last year as well.

But you go ahead an yammer on about BS that has ZERO bearing on what he's done in the last 2 years..

BTW, Since you've forgotten. That 2019 defense s**t the bed in the 2nd half of the season. The horrible play of him and Van Noy was directly (not solely) responsible for the Patriots finishing the season 4-5 (including the play-off loss). Such a great defense that they went from giving up 61 points in the first 8 games (7.625 PPG) to 164 points over the last 8 games (20.5 PPG). So spare everyone the attempt at re-writing history. Collins crappy play is well documented.

Remember when I said we should have gone after a certain Bears LB, even if the cost was high?

Well, Im not here to tout my own horns (this time, and yes Im a bit of hypocrite already, whatever)

This is again an expected move if you look at our roster: No one there has a lot of game experience and practice is, in the end, practice. Doing during the high stakes of a games is another thing.

I don't personally like Collins coming back simply bc it shows that what we had didnt work, but I don't think they have been horrible, IMO.

About Mack and Wilson, it is crazy to me how in every sport, when there is a "change in scenery", people suddenly expect a player to also as suddenly turn a flicker and become a world-beater.... That only happens rarely and always when the team has a great foundation in the first place (which is NOT the case of this team).

Bentley I think he is a solid Run Stopper LB. Not his fault he is our most consistent guy and is asked to do more (sorry Cap...)

Collins comes as insurance for the whole group, as he can do a bit of everything, even if he has clear issues with consistency and it's now old. What can you do?

But just so we clear: I'd trade, easily, a first maybe even two for Roquan Smith (that's the spicy part of the post)

Ancient history.

Cam Newton is still available. He's a former MVP, don't you know.

Bentley's contact is in alignment with a backup LB $. I don't have an issue with his $. I have an issue with his playing time.

The problem is Wilson, McMillan have not overtaken him and Tavai is playing way too much.
Bentley is doing his job as one of the 3 MLB's. As you say, Wilson and McMillan haven't stepped up.

IMO, Tavai is also doing his job as a STer and an emergency #7 LB. It is NOT his fault that the top six aren't enough to keep his reps to a very, very low amount. (Judon, Jennings, Uche, Bentley, McMillan and Wilson)
