So.... verdict?

Hard to grade Zappe. BB always puts the reins on tight when he wants to manage a QB no matter what so it's hard to get a read on him. But based on what I saw I think Mac's job is safe at least.

Mac's job is definitely safe. Props to Zappe he did good considering but it's hard for me to think we wouldn't have had a better chance with Hoyer yesterday.

Next week? Mac still hurt, Hoyer still in concussion protocol, Zappe starts, but who will be back up? Do they need to bring in another qb?

Anybody in the nfl is better than Hoyer. Leave zappe in

What we know about the Brian Hoyer Experience......

Two Patriots starts
2020 (Hoyer's 12th season in NFL)....vs KC....lead the team to 3 pts before being benched in 3rd qtr and then demoted to #3 QB (never dressing again on game day in '20)
2022 (Hoyer's 14th season)...vs GB....lead NE to 3 pts in two drives before exiting w/ head injury

What we know about Zappe....

One Patriot appearance in relief with minimal preparation
Guided team to two offensive TDs (14 pts) including 1 TD pass (zero INTs) 107 QB Rating

Note: Zappe's most impressive moments vs GB were when NE used play action on 1st down giving Zappe time in pocket and open targets.
When BB and the Consultants went into "play not to lose" mode running on 1st and 2nd downs in the 4th qtr and OT, Zappe was swallowed up when pass was only viable option given down and distance.

Conclusion: Hoyer is a proven commodity===>an extended track record of futility and losses

From what I saw yesterday, I'd go with Zappe, but still limit the playbook for him. Important that he build confidence. If Zappe's the future, this is a good way to find out.

I voted for Hoyer before the game (and think he would've done well if not for bullfighter Wynn), but now I think he should just retire. This is his minimum 6th concussion of his career (and probably has had way more). Dude can't catch a break unless it's something in his body (like arm while with the Bears).

Michael Lombardi said Hoyer's issue is he pisses his pants in the red zone...anti-clutch.
He proved it again yesterday, missing an open man in the red zone.

Give Zappe some burn.

There is no upside in playing Hoyer. He has lost his last 11 games as a starter. Third string Zappe was thrust into action at one of the toughest stadiums to play for opposing teams. As far as expectations go, i thought it could have been a lot worse. Zappe has the right tools but is just very unprepared for the NFL game, he needs time. I looked at one of his long videos of college highlights and could not find one play where he actually player "under center". Everything was shotgun, no play action. No way to go but up for him. Hoyer, not so much.

He lost his last 12 games as a starter now.

Lets' actually get Bailey Zapped prepared to start an actual NFL game before we start making bold statements. Zappe to his credit have done something Mac hasn't done yet hit Parker for a TD food for though. :)

Why is this thread still active? MJ is starting this week. We thank the backups for their service, but now it's back to the bench for them. It's time for the most productive deep ball passer in the league to sit upon his throne again.

People watched Zappe play last night, and they are still voting for him?

Was he really that awful for a 3rd string QB thrust into a game like that ?

He was 10/15 and one of those incompletions was a drop by Agoholor. He scored a touchdown (and another running TD) and would have at least put some points on the board on a 2nd drive if Isiah Wynn could block anything...

Im not saying he is Tom Brady 2.0 but doesn't seem like a big downgrade on Hoyer...

Zappe was pretty bad, but that is expected

I would not say he was "bad" for his experience/skill level and the situation he was thrust into -- he did manage two touchdown drives. But he wasn't good enough to make the difference needed to win.
