We traded our third next year for Parker, and we traded this pick for Carolina’s third next year (probably somewhat higher then the Pats pick traded for Parker) and moving back 43 slots.

so it nets out that we got Parker for moving down from 94 to 137 tonight, and possibly up a few spots next year. Seems like a good deal to me.
Plus we got a puck back from Miami

Look...I'm just stating how I feel from a personal FAN perspective. I watch SEC football probably way more than I should but when I do I see..."NFL player...NFL player...NFL player...". I look forward to the draft with expectations that we will dip into the staggering pool of excellent players on the Georgia, Alabama,Clemson et al squads that are loaded with the type of players I perceive to fit TODAY'S game. The days of gap plugging LB's is D-O-N-E. I've seen what Uche has to offer...so far, meh. Like I stated earlier...tackle with the 1st pick? OK...GUARD??? In today's NFL? what was the urgency? Just do not see it but OK. We were staring at SEC wr's at 21 that are KNOWN producers in big time games and stadiums with 100K fans every game..BB decides to go for a Baylor WR, like he decided to go for an Ohio player, Taylor Price, like Marshall's Aaron Dobson (remember him?) 2nd rounder, and as recently as N'Keal Harry, Arizona State.

I'm hoping BB snags an experienced corner with size in FA. I'm fine with the safeties but I wouldn't mind a hybrid S/LB to cover those Bills sprint outs to the sideline. I do not understand how you guys do NOT see how we were eviscerated by Josh Allen breaking the pocket and decimating our plodding LB corps play after play after nauseating play. I want SPEED SPEED SPEED in our LB corps now to provide STOPS on at least 50% of the 100% of Bills conversions they obliterated us with last season. What makes anyone think this defense is suddenly going get faster at LB? As of right now, there IS no reason.

As usual, the draft is just PART of the team building process and my dissatisfaction with it so far in no way is coloring my overall optimism going into the 2022 season. I'm always a homer and proud of it. A lot can transpire until pre-season game 1 and I'll wait until I see the finished product before I make my own personal judgement.

5 Actually, I forgot the new trade guy...
There's a LOT of young talent on the Pats at LB, FAST boyz too...
I think we'll be pretty happy .
Let's see... I think we'll be pretty pumped...
Peppers will be playing up close a lot this year.

Bentley, McGrone, McMillan, Wilson, Perkins, Uche, Jennings - the capital is all spent. Some of these guys HAVE to step up and make it work.

The issue is Bailey's huge (for a punter) $4+mm cap hit. Hopefully they can renegotiate that with him.
The odd thing is they haven't made any obvious moves. There are FA punters they could have signed as camp competition. They could extend him to reduce his cap hit (e.g., give him 3 years, $9M, or something). Heck, they could've traded him or even released him outright. [They may have made overtures that've been rebuffed, but Bailey's agent should know that his salary, like an RFA tag, is not guaranteed.]

Let's not forget Steven Neal, who ended up being one of the best guards in Pats history despite being undrafted. When he went out in the 2007 Superbowl it was jailbreak time for the Giants DL.

I also thought he had the best NFL retirement simile ever: "football is like being in a car wreck every weekend" as the reason he had to retire.

Minor point: Mankins wasn't even a Pac-10 player; he played for Friend of Bill Pat Hill at Fresno State in the Mountain West Conference.
****in' BUM, NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRAFTED...

Yeah, and the dead cap hit is only $700K. He's living on borrowed time; no one is going to pay him $4mm

If Neal doesn't get hurt we win the SB, ONCE he went out we were DONE.

Those trades worked out great.

94 to 137 for Parker, a #5 this year and very likely a move up in the 3rd round next year.

ACTUALLY we have 4 Young LBS..
McGrone
Mcmillan
Perkins... and the forgotten man... Jennings.

We'll see, but I SERIOUSLY DOUBT Bill missed on them all, LB is something I think he excels at.

We traded for Wilson from the Browns too.

Mon ami, Jabril Peppers is a rocket (4.46 40). So is Dugger (4.49) , so is McGrone (4.43) l, and Wilson plays faster than his 4.65, and NcMillan was like 4.62.

They now have two small, fast slot guys. And Shawn Wade ran a 4.43.

They’re not slow at the second/slot level.

We're going to see salaries for EVERY position going up. I'm not sure how the F'in NFL figured out they needed to give Bailey a 3M increase in his salary because he earned his Pro Bowl selection. But ALL-PRO punters don't grow on trees. And BB called Jonny Hekker a weapon for the Rams.

Bailey isn't JUST a punter. He's our kick-off guy as well and he does a good job at that. So, him being paid extra isn't an issue, in my book.

That's right.. I forgot it was Fresno St, not San Jose St. Same State.. Different counties.. doh..

Posted edited to show the correct state and acknowledging you said it.

A few years from now a couple of teams that had 2/3 1st rd picks this year will be hurting to pay guys if they have great results.
People forget, that $ makes a difference, if you have 5 guys that are "9" good that will cost you 50 million, but another team has 6 guys that are 8 good, and could be better, at 30 mill, with 93 guys and insurance you gotta pay, does this matter to you?
Some don't get this.
I'm not sure $ had anything to do with the trade down, but I'm certain it didn't hurt, and they all know.

Peppers is a safety...I'm fine with him...so is Duggar. McGrone is a complete unknown at this point, projected to be a ST/Backup LB. Our starting LB's are turtles by today's standard and again, were exposed every single series against Buffalo in the playoffs. THIS is an area I want to see improved. We have yet to do that IMO.
