OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Looks like Grayson is the guy Brady will rely on to step up. I think he’s done with Johnson. Grayson looks much more confident and adept. Not sure what happened with Miller, and whether his injury is still holding him back…I imagine when your only play is a go route, losing a step will make you fairly useless.

Apparently it has to do with his blocking

I don’t mean to be “that guy” and trying to bend everything to support my personal argument, and I realize this is a small sample size, but…

Barrett played the entire first half. The Panthers had 27 plays for 180 yards. They had two sacks…one of them, credited to Barrett, wasn’t a real sack but more of a running play as Newton tried to scramble and held the ball forever. He also had a terrible offsides penalty on 3rd and 8.

Barrett didn’t olay in the second half. Before garbage time (taking out the last drive), the Panthers had 29 plays for 31 yards. The team had five sacks. That was without Winfield.

I’m telling you the defense is better with Barrett out…maybe not on obvious passing plays, but overall he hurts them more than he helps them. It’s why Belichick doesn’t want edge rusher-only players like Collins or Winovich on the field much of the time...they’re easy to figure out, have one skill, and often get exploited for their overaggressiveness.

Bit crazy...

Have we seen him run many routes? I mean what intermediate routes has he ever caught a pass on? No screens for a guy that fast?

My main takeaway is that AB is still really good and with Evans/AB/Gronk as the 3 major weapons I think that should be enough to win the whole thing if the Oline gives Brady time as they've done majority of the season

That catch attempt where he got bent pretty good today didn't look like it was a full go route, but I was busy at the time and didn't get the chance to see exactly what was run.

Defense has to play well against real QBs and defensive play calling has to be better on 3rd down especially against QBs who can exploit aggression, which is all of the QBs in the playoffs.

Dude....

Getting the Packers and Chiefs at home is a huge break. Of course Rodgers might be on another team anyway.

AFC North might also be trash next year. And the NFC West will definitely be without Wilson and Trey Lance will probably by the 49ers QB and who knows if he’ll be any good.

I think the defense qill be fine. It's no coincidence that once Davis came back the sacks went up exponentially

As of now, I expect the AFCN to have 2 new starting QBs (Steelers, Browns) next season.

I looked at it again, and it wasn’t a running play, so I take that back…I thought initially Cam had tried to scramble. Now to move the goalposts…Vea is at least 75% responsible as usual (not including the back 7 players holding their ground). I rarely see plays where Barrett blows up a blocker or actually creates the pressure. Many of his sacks are the result of Vea, Suh, or a blitzing LB (White, David) creating the problem. That’s why Barrett did virtually nothing when Vea got hurt last season.

I think Barrett is a pretty good pass rusher, though not a great one. I think he’s a guy who also shouldn’t be out there often on 1st and 2nd down. He has no other skills besides pinning his ears back.

I think it’s at least worth noting that the team allowed 6-7 yards per play in the first half, then about 1 yard per play in the second half. Not saying this guy completely tanks the defense, but it’s notable just how well the unit played…maybe their most dominant half of football of the last two years.

I am not sure what to make of Mac. His arm strength is really poor. I am not sure how much he can overcome that even with strength training. I certainly hope he can as currently, his arm is not close to NFL caliber especially in poor weather.
I wonder about Macs arm strength too. You could see the difference in velocity compared to Allen today.

I don't think Mac can make certain throws in tight coverage with small windows like Brady does. The zip in Brady's throws could be seen in last weeks NO game from the all22 Pewterreport did. Elite receivers like Godwin make it look like easy catches. But the scrubs have a really hard time with it. I think that's why Brady's receivers seem to have lots of drops. Even players such as Gronk, Edelman, Welker sometimes have a hard ime handling the ball.

Bradys arm strength is really underrated. He doesn't have the strongest in the league, but he does have a lot of zip in it even in his 40s

have nothing to do with each other. I can take 50 QB's and compare their first 10 starts and none of them meant what they will be.
Absolutely right. If we were to use that logic, then the Jags and Jets should already give up on Lawrence and Wilson. Although they may be ruined now. I don't understand why bad teams keep on throwing their rookie QBs in the deep end without a life jacket.

I am trying to decide who in the AFC could realistically beat the Chiefs. Maybe TN if they get Henry back? Bills have a shot as Allen can keep up offensively and maybe Bengals??
Titans are a fraud. Bengals are going to be the Bungals.

Chiefs are going down, either by the Bills, , Colts, or Pats.
