OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

After much debate the Bucs can definitely beat Greenbay. They're starting to show leaks in that defense and the offense is really a front running team

Maybe. But then it’s probably the Rams in LA. Basically the toughest road. At least I wouldn’t be depressed if they lost to the Rams in the NFCCG unlike if they lost to the Packers.

Buccaneers outside linebacker Shaq Barrett injured a knee in the second quarter Sunday. He briefly returned in the third quarter before leaving for good.

Bucs coach Bruce Arians said after the game the initial diagnosis is a sprained knee.

“Looks like a minor MCL,” Arians said on the Buccaneers Radio Network’s postgame show, via joebucsfan.com. “Hopefully (it’s) nothing that he will miss any time.”

Barrett will undergo an MRI on Monday.

The Bucs downplayed Chris Godwin‘s knee injury after last week’s game, and it turned out the receiver tore his ACL. So the Bucs will hold their breath until they see Barrett’s MRI results.

So can the “Mac is playing better than Brady in 2001” takes die yet?

Brady in 14 starts: 18 TDs - 12 Ints, 3 Game Winning Drives, team record of 11-3

Mac in 15 starts: 18 TDs - 12 Ints, 1 Game Winning Drive, team record of 9-6

And of course it goes without saying that the passing offense in 2001 was almost a different spot.

Mac will never be Brady or anything resembling the GOAT. That’s just not going to happen and unfair to Mac to expect that level from him.

I’m just responding to the takes on the main forum lately.

Yeah. The comparisons to 2001 are absurd. That year was one of the most magical in all of team sports history. Never to be repeated unless another 6th round pick comes off the bench to replace a franchise, first overall pick, in prime starting QB and lead the team to the SB where he is a 14 point underdog beating the 3, 1 and 1 seeds along the way.

But you have to understand where it is all coming from. They need for Mac to be Brady as much as possible to try to justify Bill letting Brady walk. That is where the angst lays for Team Bill. Everything comes back to the GOAT as how could it not? Brady never ever lost a division lead in December much less the bye with 2 performances that were absolutely nauseating.

The Patriots started 2-4, then ran into an incredible string of good luck, particularly with opponent injuries, but also with things like weather. That's great news for the team's record, and it certainly shouldn't be looked at as a negative that the Patriots were able to take advantage of that, but it was terrible as far as how it impacted expectations. And things have been much like that with Jones. He's been pretty much exactly as advertised, but that includes the questions about his current (and future) abilities, as well as the downsides of being a rookie QB.

But a number of people here got way over their skis, both with talking up the Patriots actual level, and with talking about how bad other teams were, And things were much like that with Jones, too.

I was guilty of that in terms of the teams expectations. I really liked the way the D was playing in that 7 game stretch. You make good points about the schedule, injury luck and weather. It is still head scratching to me how bad we have looked for 2 games though. I really didn't see that coming. Losing is one thing as the Colts and Bills are really good teams but the way we lost is deflating.

I am not sure what to make of Mac. His arm strength is really poor. I am not sure how much he can overcome that even with strength training. I certainly hope he can as currently, his arm is not close to NFL caliber especially in poor weather.

Yeah it's back to reality in the AFC. KC will host the AFC Championship and move on to the SB and will win it unless Brady is there.

I am trying to decide who in the AFC could realistically beat the Chiefs. Maybe TN if they get Henry back? Bills have a shot as Allen can keep up offensively and maybe Bengals??

He'll spend the offseason working his ass off on core and arm strengthening. We should see a noticeable improvement next season. If we don't, the Patriots will need to start looking for a Dome/southern team to trade Mac to.

Healthy Titans
Colts
Bills

In that order, IMO.

Bengals in a 1 game thing can do it but they aren't going to make it to the Championship game. I guess Bills can but I don't buy it. TEN can if they can make it but It's KC playing the role we did for 20 years. It's going to be Rodgers Mahomes this year and be almost unwatchable unless the Bucs can avoid LA and Saints should they make it.

Bengals can beat the Chiefs next week and put the Titans back into the 1 seed which I desperately want.

What does it tell you that the defense was great this year (except today) and BB the GM and the coach could win the yearly awards and yet they will still limp into the playoffs. People will say rookie QB and this and that and it's not untrue, but the real answer is PLAYERS PLAY AND COACHES COACH. They are not equal.

GB isn’t a threat

While the Bucs have the talent and ability to beat any other team in the league, I think you underestimate the Buc's ability to piss away games to just about any other team in the NFL.
