Dolphins Agree to Terms with Texans for Watson - Pending two key details...

Agreed - is Flores already writing his own note on a napkin?
Just thinking about it - he already seemingly got into hot water last year with his locker room when he benched Fitzpatrick, who was playing well enough and was liked by the players, for Tua, because "Tua is the future." Tua only looks OK but Flores keeps saying "Tua's our guy." Now, barely 1 year later, they're trying to trade the farm for some other guy who might not even be able to play for a while. Some Dolphins players might be questioning if they can trust Flores.

You did?!? Seem I am right that there is too many unknowns to trade for the guy. You were the one who said Ross would have a good idea of what the outcome of the legal cases are and what Goodell would hand down as a punishment. I said there are way too many variables to know that. This report confirms my statement. Ross knows nothing.

So I told you so. Why in the hell are you taking a victory lap when you were wrong.

I said IF ROSS TRADED FOR WATSON BEFORE THINGS WERE RESOLVED that he was doing it blindly. Didn’t say he would.
I told you Phins would perform due diligence before a trade. If this story is to be believed, they added contingencies after their due diligence, which is common in real estate deals.

You proceeded to waive this off, insisted Ross was dumb and your take was it was high risk and you wouldn't do it. Own it, you were wrong.

Just like when you said the Bucs can't run even when you were told they weren't trying to run, you insisted they couldn't. Wrong again.

Brady not a top 5 QB. Wrong again.

At least you're consistent.

Thanks, but this is Ian's site and he can start a thread if he wants. The forum doesn't center around you and the threads you start.
Only here for the "oh snap".

Yes, I think Flores is a very promising coaching prospect, but he certainly didn’t handle the Fitz/Tua situation too well last year (assuming he was truly the one making the call, which may or may not be the case given his meddlesome owner). He might have taken the Fin job a year too early, when he would have done better by waiting a year or two for an opportunity with a superior owner (which is practically every other team). Or, maybe it will become clear down the road that he is a Wade Phillips type that is more effective as a DC than a HC.

A shining beacon of positivity and hope.

LOL! I said Ross is not a smart owner. I said if he traded before the trade deadline, he didn’t do his due diligence because there is no way of knowing what would happen. That was my point. I said Watson was toxic while his legal issues are unresolved. From this report Ross agrees with me.

And what due diligence is Ross doing if this report is true? He isn’t checking into the facts of the case to see the likelihood of Watson losing or being indicted and making a call of whether it is risk to get Watson as a depressed value as you indicated. He wants the whole thing resolved and, based on reporting, paying close to the amount Caserio has been asking for.

What Ross has agreed to is paying the Texans close to what they are asking for as long as Watson doesn’t end up in jail, suspended for a year or more by the league, and/or his reputation isn’t too tarnished by the outcome of the civil trials and won’t make the trade until it happens. That isn’t due diligence. Anyone could make an offer like that with everything we know from public reporting. What due diligence do you need to make an offer like that?

We don't know what really went on behind the scenes, but I really doubt that it is all on Flores.

My money is on Stephen Ross repeatedly ripping the rug out from under Flores, and undermining what he is trying to establish in the locker room. Ross has a history of doing that to his coaches.

Sure, Fitzpuff might have been playing good at the time, but he is a hot/cold player with a very limited ceiling. At the time Flores took the Miami job, I called it a very stupid move and said it would put his coaching career on a holding pattern.

Doesn't this torpedo any locker room confidence in Tua down in Miami? Tua's seemed like a guy who might be shaken by that... Plus, Flores has been saying "Tua is our guy" over and over for weeks. Apparently he isn't. Does that mess up his relationship with his players too? It all seems like a huge distraction for them.
This is locker room cancer. Ross is an idiot for letting this slip out. A) it reduces Miami's bargaining strength. B) It can't help but negatively impact the locker room. Tua has plenty of support in that room. A franchise is only as good as its owner.

Considering what we know about both Flores and Ross, I agree 100%

Trade for him and dress him to force the NFL's hand. This in between move the NFL has been using with him and AB is ridiculous. Either suspend him or don't. If he's later found guilty in a criminal charge he'll be locked up or suspend him then. The rest? If he whipped it out and that's basically it then let the girls try and get paid and let him play.

Hope is not a strategy. There is no way to force the NFL's hand.

The Finheaven consensus is Tua is a top 10-20 QB (depending who you ask) and Mac is bottom 5. They're also under the impression that Mac is benefitting from amazing offensive line play, so I don't think they're watching too much tape. The Bears forum I checked the same day also had people saying the same **** about Mac.
The only “offensive line” the posters at Finheaven understand is “F~~~ you.”

A year? He would get erased from the league permanently and any player or coach who speaks of him would get at least a 3 week suspension for "conduct unbecoming the shield"
Or being “generally aware” of his crimes/actions.

Shades of what sf did with jg. Miami’d better hope this goes through eventually

So in 4 days the Phins have to play the Bills in Buffalo, a loss clearly ends any hope they have for this season and this news comes out now!

I'm sure Tua is deep into the playbook and will be ready for this game. This is the signs of a really bad run organization, might as well make the trade and have Watson get suspended for the rest of the year and roll with Briskett.

You have to remember Miami's first round pick belongs to the Iggles, although Miami does have SF first rd pick, and extra 3rd and 4th rd picks and a bunch of 7th rd picks.

So if Miami tanks, the Iggles would be loving it! If Wentz plays more than 70% of the Colts snaps, they would get another first rd pick from the Colts (second if he doesn't take enough snaps) and their own pick which looks like it too is going to be in the top ten.

This news coming out now, really hurts the Phins.
Maybe it will motivate him.

The Bucs have a historically bad running game. No, it isn't from a skewed 3-game sample size and the players may be the same from last yer, but unexplained things happen and they're not good now cuz look at the 2005 Patriots. Historically bad.

(Now ranked 6th in NFL in rushing DVOA and 4.2 YPA)

I was listening to the Bill Barnwell podcast on “Why the Dolphins Suck” with the local Fin ESPN Beat Writer, Marcel Louis-Jacques. Basically: the defense that was expected to be so good has been a candidate for the worst in the NFL, the OL is also perhaps the worst in the NFL despite a BUNCH of high draft picks devoted to it, and the free agent additions aren’t panning out. Almost all of the draft picks (with two arguably yet to be determined) simply haven’t panned out. Waddle has looked good when healthy, but he cost the Fins first round draft pick that now looks to be very high. The one position that hasn’t been a disaster in the last games: QB. Tua threw for over 660 yards and 6TDs (admittedly vs 3 INTs) and put the Fins ahead the last two games against lousy teams and the Fin defense let the other team March down the field in no time for the win both times.

So, with every position looking like a disaster on the fins except QB and maybe WR (if they get healthy), what is the solution? Trade a King’s ransom for Watson! Despite the fact that who knows when he might be available, and he will likely be toxic when he is.

The ESPN beat writer (who said QB is not the problem) said the only reason for trading for Watson is that the GM Grier is likely to fired soon, so why not send that pile of picks for Watson? If the gamble pays off, Watson is cleared to play, and he gets the Fins some wins (he is almost surely better than Tua at this stage after all) maybe his job is saved! And if not because the defense and OL is terrible, who cares about those draft picks because Grier will be fired anyway.

I have to say the podcast was a good listen. What a way to run an organization! I’m beginning to think Flores and Tua would be better off elsewhere away from that dumpster fire anyway.
