NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION ****** Other NFL Games Thread Week 1 ******

There aren't too many teams on their schedule with a great QB-WR combo like Dallas has...maybe Atlanta, New Orleans (if Winston plays well), and Buffalo. In the playoffs maybe it's a different story with Seattle, GB, Arizona, KC, etc.

As far as NE is concerned., I don't like the idea of playing a rookie QB against Brady. I know it's Mac Jones, who has won pressure-packed games in college before, but still...Dak made some GREAT throws tonight to help keep the game close, which I'm not sure Mac is ready to do just yet.

Prescott is very good QB, but he is usually not a guy who throws for 400 yards and 3 TDs like a Brady, Rodgers, or Mahommes (2019 was the exception, but he played a lot of awful defenses that year). He is an above average passer with near elite running ability.

But Lamb had 104 yards and a TD and would have had a lot more if he didn’t drop so many balls. It wasn’t just Cooper who was shredding the Bucs’ secondary.

Would have been a ticky tack call if that was flagged. I’m good with no flag there. There will be worse non called OPI’s this weekend.

Next time a broadcaster points out how you have an advantage kicking a FG on 3rd down in case of a botched snap/hold, could they kindly point out the last time in NFL history (if any) that a holder successfully fielded the botched snap, made a split second decision to down the ball, and the team followed with a successful fourth down field goal? And in this situation, I guess they re-align the entire unit and get that second kick off within a few seconds?
Great point tbh. That’s one of those things announcers have been saying for years and I never really thought about, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen those events happen

I think what Dallas showed last night was a bit of a blueprint on how to slow down the Bucs, at least. Dominate the TOP with short passes to the outside, not allowing their pass rush to get to the QB. On defense, you just need to get Brady off his spot as he's not great throwing the ball on the run. Get Brady moving around and force incompletions and bad throws. If there is one weakness he has is that he sometimes forces things that aren't there - we've seen that plenty of times.

Dak played exceptionally last night, in fact, I would say he outplayed Brady, especially for someone who hadn't taken a meaningful snap since early 2020 season. If he continues to play like that, the Cowboys are going to make some noise in the weak NFC east for sure.

The Bucs managed 1 sack on 58 dropbacks vs. a below average OL when missing Zack Martin. Not a good showing from the old pass rushers. Their secondary was always a product of the DL & will be exposed without Murphy-Bunting.

This is lacking context. Many of the Cowboys throws were perimeter throws to get the ball out quick on the outside to expose the secondary which was already down a DB to start the game and then lost Bunting in the first quarter. It's not like Dak was dropping back and holding the ball to make plays down field. They ran a very efficient, attack the perimeter and gets lot of YAC. It was a great game plan and not really a reflection of the Dline not getting there. They did hurry Dak a bunch of times but he is very elusive so he avoided the sacks. They also started dropping guys into coverage in the second half to help their Dbs and only rushed 4, sometimes 3.

yeah. some bear hug lol

100% offensive pass interference. there was no "jockeying" for position by both players whatsoever. A lot of the Bucs receivers, I noticed, get away with pushing off, including Evans, Gronk, and Godwin.

The bucs dline is beastly... Vita vea is a force no doubt... And while we may look at the opi non call, there were a lot of holding calls not made on the Dallas online... They really missed Martin last night

No, the video is available. The defender has both arms around the receiver, which is why the receiver maneuvers to break free.

So, if you're looking for bias, go look in your mirror.

You have no idea what your talking about.

understatement of the century. He is trying to "justify" to himself and others that Brady got a legitimate win last night without help from the refs. Those kinds of comments are made by fans of the team that benefitted.

Weren't they missing a couple of top defensive backs and then lost a starting CB in the first quarter?

They were down one starter, but they may have lost Bunting for most or all the season.

He dislocated his elbow. Arians said he will be fine and could play next Sunday vs the Falcons. They really avoided a disaster. It looked to me like he broke his forearm.

Like we did for 20 years, eh? That play may be a candidate for biggest flop of the season by a corner. And this was just the first game of the season. The corner looked like LeBron because he lost leverage on the route. The arm “extension,” if you even want to call it that, happens all the time.

Really? I was expecting 3 weeks at the very least.

Elbow dislocations are strange, they can look super gross but if there aren't any major tears people can come back fairly quick. I don't know about a 1 week turnaround unless it's an absolutely best case scenario though.

Reminds me of a Gronk OPI call.

Pretty good game overall , thought...

It took approx 52mins for the Cowboys to make Brady scramble and almost throw a pick 6 (Bucs OLine did a good job for Brady)
Realised how difficult it is to run through the Bucs DLine ......not much from Elliott
Cowboys tactic worked re throws outside and then gain the YAC
Cowboys missed 2 field goals and an extra point ?
CD Lamb is good but dropped a few
