Cam Released

Had to have been something like that or Minshew wanting out. Otherwise Urban was just shooting himself in the foot.
I certainly wouldn't put it past Urban to screw up, but I think he made the right move with this. The Jaguars are going to suck, regardless of the QB, so there's no sense having a potentially divisive situation that's so easily avoidable.

Felger is going to troll about the "backup" situation for all its worth. I wonder how many listeners will be stupid enough to take the bait.

Wonder how much Cam's whole Covid snafu factored in.
Just guessing, but "not at all" if BB had already made up his mind; could have been the straw that broke the CAMel's back if he was wavering, though.

They have a sign somewhere in the stadium that says "Availability is the most important ability". I think having a starting QB who's decisions could make him unavailable factors in somewhat.

If I had to guess Bill told him Mac would start and he asked to be cut.
We'll never know if we weren't in the room, but I don't think BB would have wanted a disappointed Cam Newton in the locker room. Better to make a clean break and give him a chance to catch on with another team.

For those who've not followed Bedard on this, I should make clear that he was adamantly opposed to Newton coming back as the starter. So some of his effusive praise for Jones may be a bit of a product of that. Note that I'm not saying it is, for sure, and am just tossing it out there as a possibility.
I've actually quite enjoyed following Bedard's takes this offseason on his podcast. If anything he was one of the more critical members of the media regarding Jones. I'd say most reports were falling over themselves with praise for Mac; Bedard was reserved in his praise more often. He definitely isn't a Cam fan, though.

Yeah, he's very serious about the "ceiling". Also, he's got a lot of concern about Jones' readiness to take the NFL pounding.

I find the first point silly because, outside of certain dealbreakers (absolutely no arm strength, complete inability to process information after having been spoon fed all the way through college, etc...), no draftable QB's "ceiling" is ever really known for sure early in their career. But the second point is legit, IMO.

I’m not here to start a long back and forth but can we agree that giving your starting QB next to no reps with the starters was an interesting decision
To say the least.

I was as objective and on point about Mac as anyone and got stalked for months.

We should have a cheerleader forum for the homers.
