Patriots trade for Ravens CB Shaun Wade

Apparently he had a good enough attitude (or at least played well enough) to be considered a top-10 pick as recently as less than a year ago.

well to be fair, lots of players are graded leading up to the drafting process entirely on their game play. Its once the evaluation ‘s, and the speaking to coaching personnel, that the real draft position starts to take hold. A bad season can get you from a top 10 pick to the 2-3rd round. Combine a bad season with reports of a terrible personality, and that’s how you end up in the fifth round or undrafted despite being a former “1st rd prospect”.

so maybe there’s a little truth there. Being traded before the season even starts in your rookie year, is about of big of a wake up call as you can get.

If I had to guess, this isn’t the last trade we will see during the next 2 weeks. I wonder if there is a receiver in a similar situation who Belichick might target. I really like David Sills from the Giants. I liked him in the draft a few years ago. Another WR who excelled in college after coming in as a QB. Has good size and excellent hands, knows how to get open.

These clowns had *alleged* double-murderer Ray-Ray, and are *****ing about somebody else? After erecting a statue to RLKAG? GTFO.

This is from r/Ravens, FWIW

I dunno, sounds kinda made up to me. If he sucked at outside corner and refused to play inside the right coaching move would be to bench him. It's not like Alabama is so low on talent that they couldn't replace him.

With Gilmore on PUP and now J. Jones getting banged up today, this makes sense. We could use more depth at that position anyway.

Honestly, I think BB was making this trade regardless of GIlmore and Jones status. Wade's preseason says he's an instant upgrade over M. Jackson and Virgin and probably JoeJuan Williams. At 6'1, Wade is a taller CB, which isn't a bad thing. If Wade pans out, he could provide security if JC Jackson and the team can't come to an agreement. If they do, then Wade could provide great depth for the Pats.

Sounds like wade wasn't having a productive camp there and wasn't beating anyone out, even an UDFA CB. Ravens probably wanted to get something back in return.

Not saying he won't translate here, could be decent depth, but I'm not getting my hopes up he's a diamond in the rough.

So, he had a 0.00 Passer rating with an Interception on the 25 times the receiver he was covering was targeted. But, NO. He wasn't having a "productive" camp. *SMH*.

Moved outside where he was one of the worst FBS CBs (QBR 112, 600 yds, 6 TDs). A healthy 5th round pick who couldn’t make the Ravens. He’s a depth, ST guy who you try to develop. Opening day will be Mills and Jackson outside.

He played the season with turf toe. Those stats don't mean a much. OH.. and they were about the same as "All-Rookie Team" Antoine Winfield, Jr. He was pretty much healthy all last season.

Umm.. He "couldn't make the Ravens" because they have insane depth they have at Corner. Not because he sucked.

It always amazes me when people post stats and "opinions" without any context of facts to support them.

Since most teams will keep 5 CB's for defensive depth as well as ST's play, regardless of his 40 time and previous high draft status, the BOTTOM LINE here is that there were 5 CB's on the Ravens roster that beat this kid out. So its not like we are going to get a world beater in this trade. This kid is a developmental player, not an impact one.

That's not including the damning report of him having a bad attitude at OSU. So I guess my take is that this is an "intriguing" trade. Unfortunately it leads me to believe that Gilmore is NOT going to be ready for the start of the season. Though I doubt this has any meaning as to Gilmore's contract situation

It’s not a damning report it’s some guy on Reddit making it up.

Why do people on TV think it’s okay to have the weird Covid beard?

Regardless of where we play wade, the fact is he is a rookie.

with a healthy Gilmore, this defense is lethal. Without him, there is a huge hole to fill.

neither slowjuan, mills or m Jackson is capable of starting opposite of c Jackson!

From Shaun Wade's draft profile:

"Wade was named a first-team Associated Press All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in 2020 (35 tackles, two interceptions, one returned for a score, four pass breakups in eight games, seven starts)"

If he sucked so bad last year, how did he get named an "All-American" and the Big10 DB of the Year?

Could very well be. I'm not on any of these platforms, so I wouldn't know. Its just that after reading several pages of glowing reports on this kid. Great size, Great speed, Great arm length. (would love to see his 3 cone time) the fact he was considered a first round pick who dropped due to a bad year but fighting an injury and the general dislocation of playing college football in 2020. You'd have to say WOW, we got a real steal. What a prospect. And didn't I see a poster where they had him rated as one of the top 3 rookie CB's in man coverage this preseason. RIght?

Well you have to wonder why he's available. 6'1 CB's with 34" arms and with 4.4 speed don't grow on trees. I'm wondering who the hell are the 5 guys the Ravens think are better than him, So him having a bad attitude seems to ring true. Could be BS, but you have to wonder.

At any rate, I hardly think that the 6th best CB (we hope) on the Ravens is going to have much of an impact on the 2021 Pats outside of ST's and deep depth. We got a developmental player for the developmental player price and I hope he's a starter NEXT year.
