Patriots trade for Ravens CB Shaun Wade

Yeah, he was very solid in 2019. The 2020 season was a rough one for him. Maybe because Ohio State waited to play football until almost November (still no clue why they got a playoff bid when they played half the games of other conferences, but I digress). He was still a team captain, though. Low risk/potential high reward trade.
He was injured too. Tough kid. He’s a football player, his role in the NFL may be uncertain but he will have one and play a number of years.

4.43 at his pro day.

Yeah, I found that and posted it, ran that time while still recovering from injury.

so ran a 4.43 and is 6’1” 185. Also a 37.5 vertical. So he’s somewhat explosive. Like I said, if they can take 2 UDFAs and turn them into pro bowl caliber players, maybe they can coach this kid up.

I trust their coaching of DBs a lot more than their WR coaching lol.

Interesting, Ravens run out of room for him?
Yeah, I believe it was between him & CB Westry. Also, BAL has good depth at CB. Numbers game..Glad we got Wade.

The kid played his final season at Ohio State on a foot with turf toe that required surgery once they finally shut him down.

Injuries like that can often take more than a year to get player back to normal. They may have found a good value based on the Ravens depth at corner and a logjam at the position.

Ok, so net, in the last two days the Patriots traded out excess RB depth in Michel and got a CB in Wade and moved up from the 7th to the 6th round in 2022 and from the 5th to the 4th round in 2023. Given that, to me acquiring Wade doesn’t look like a move for someone they’re not sure will make the roster. I assume he’ll be playing a ton on Sunday.

Sounds like wade wasn't having a productive camp there and wasn't beating anyone out, even an UDFA CB. Ravens probably wanted to get something back in return.

Not saying he won't translate here, could be decent depth, but I'm not getting my hopes up he's a diamond in the rough.

I remember watching him make an unreal PBU at Ohio State and I could instantly tell the reason he was able to do it was because he had oddly long arms.

Sure enough he has 33 3/4 inch arms. That’s some really long arms for someone who’s 6’1. For comparison, joejohn Williams has 32 1/2 inch arms at 6’4. Gilmore has 30 inch arms at 6ft.

33 3/4 inch arms are the average for someone who’s 6’5 +. People often under value arm Length, especially in comparison to height. Long arms essentially add height to your game as a DB. You just need to learn to use them to your advantage, which he seems decent at already. Also love his style of play. Prototypical pats DB. His upside excites me. I love the trade.
