I truly hope Mac is a top 10 QB at any point as that is what it will take for us to truly contend again but you know as well as I do how long those odds are. He was taken 5th of the top 5 QBs. I like some of his attributes for sure but who knows if he will pan out and also stay healthy.

They won 7 last year with the worst offense in the NFL and a mediocre defense. If you think so fine, but with the improved level of talent from last year 9-8, 10-7 is very realistic. They are not going 6-11 or 7-10.

What I truly don't understand is why Bill let the QB position go to complete crap after we traded Jimmy knowing he was not extending Brady past age 42. IMO he had to do one or the other and he did either which is why we are in our current state praying Mac turns into something decent.

Option 2. What Bill should have done is trade Jimmy and milk Tom and the aging, cap-maxed team for everything it had left.

Bill made the right choice. He squeezed another SB out of the roster and a 41 year old QB.

If Bill traded Tom Brady's Bunch would have lost their minds and the Garappolites would have rejoiced in the streets.

Now what? In 2018 should Bill have signed a top 10 QB? Nope. No cap space. 2019? Nope. No cap space. Draft a QB in the top 10? Nope. They didn't have the capital to move up after winning the SB. He drafts Stid in 2019 and hopes for the best. Trade a key player? Nope. Instead he spent to the hilt and rode Tom in 2018 (..and won a SB) and tried again in 2019.

2020 was the price the franchise paid for riding the horse until it died and the price paid got him the 15th pick the draft and a pot'l franchise QB who might start this year.

Yes, Yes. Brady was 40 when Jimmy was traded. The Bucs just used a second round pick on Trask and Brady was fine. There was never an issue with the drafting of Jimmy as Brady responded with some of the best football of his life. It was always Bill refusing to trade him in March after Brady just won the 28-3 SB. For some ungodly reason, after that SB performance and unbelievable year by Brady (one of his finest seasons coming off suspension to boot), Bill STILL wanted to keep Jimmy. That was the rift. Brady would have been fine if Bill drafted another QB after Jimmy and in reality as GM, it was Bill's job to find the next QB once he traded Jimmy. He sat on his hands for 3 years and then was surprised in year 4 when Brady finally said good-by after another crap offer to stay year to year.

Wait you think that keeping the backup to a 40 year old starter in case there is an injury up until the last minute you can is a “rift”. How? Why? Jimmy was kept to the trade deadline as insurance in case the 40 year old sustained an injury so he could keep the SB team on track. How is that a negative?

In any event, you can Monday morning QB the coulda, shoulda, wouldas til you are blue in the face, none of them matter and although you presume to know what everyone thought, how they felt, etc, you don’t.
I am dealing with the result. And in the end letting Brady leave last year will turn out to be the best move for the franchise given all the options that existed.
There was no way to win, without or without him in 2020 and the team will be better off in the long run rebuilding more quickly with the money they saved to pay him when the team wasn’t going to win.

They still have Cam as their starter. Until that changes or we see Jones is a legit starter, then no, they are a below .500/middler team. Double digit wins in today's league are predicated on having a legit starting QB. Every single team last year that had 11+ wins had an elite or HoF QB.
