Marcus Mariota

Brady was being asked to pull out multiple game winning drives in undeal positions in his very first SB run and it was abundantly clear he had superior game sense and pocket presence than Bledsoe. The next year he led the league. The next year he was getting MVP votes and basically bailed our defense out of a disaster 4th quarter performance to win a shootout SB. The next year he was dominant and had a 130 passer rating on the road in the AFCCG against the 15-1 Steelers and then a 110 passer rating against the Eagles in the SB. The next year he had his first all Pro.

Please.

Also the guys being considered in this thread are not early years Brady.

This narrative driven myth-building is getting boring. His ANY/A tells his whole story of development. He was an average QB over his first 3 seasons as a starter (2001-2003: < 6 ANY/A), then made a jump into good/great territory (< 7 ANY/A) the next 3 years before joining the elite club ever since in 2007 (multiple seasons of > 8 ANY/A, average somewhere in the higher 7s).

It is very obvious in his numbers and even more so in the way that BB build those teams.

Having individually great games like you are citing above doesn't make someone good, great or elite. It is the consistency that puts you there.

On another note I don't understand why people want to remove from existence what gives his story as a player a lot more depth just to pretend that he was someone amazingly gifted from the start. He wasn't. He has been a grinder that worked tirelessly to get to where he is by absorbing every bit of football knowledge -- whether that is from self-scouting, film or coaches -- and having the capacity to deploy it. None of this lessens his legacy but actually elevates it.

Didn’t realize he’s only 27... not that I think he’s going to be the Great Answer, but it does make me a bit more curious... I’d be ok with a MM in 2021 if NE thinks he can produce. I’d still want the team to explore Jimmy & the future QB possibilities.

If the Niners really want a first for Jimmy G I’d much rather gives less and go with Marcus

Reports are the Redskins are in high pursuit of Mariota.
Maybe BB’s love for for Jimmy G burns bright.

I would not mind Mariota as a bridge QB. He would at least elevate the passing game to a much higher level than last season. And if we get some weapons at the skill spots, he could be a nice fit.

What would you say about :
Jimmy for 2nd in 2021, 3rd in 2022 ?

Mariota:
  • 90 career passer rating including the playoffs with the Titans
  • Three winning seasons as the full-time starter (3-9 as a rookie with a team that was 2-14 previously)
  • His strengths match up with the offense (short accuracy & quick release)
He was electric in his 1 game with the Raiders. He had over 300 yards in three quarters of play & showed his potential as a runner.

Players like Mariota & Jimmy G are interesting because they don't cost alot in terms of assets & have shown upside in the league. They are my preferences over paying the farm for Stafford, Ryan, etc.

I could swallow that I could do that Jimmy Or Marcus.
A shame we couldn’t sign Marcus last year.
The cap was non existent to grab him last year.
Would suck to give a serious investment for him.

Bring Jimmy home. How epic would the pats and Bucs game be. Brady VS Jimmy and Bill.

Marcus Mariota is the bridge from 7-9 to 8-8

I'd rather just give up a 1st. But I would do either one. It's a risk, though...especially when you consider that he hasn't been able to consistently stay on the field.

This is the Patriots the fact reports are coming out we are hot for both these players.
tells me we are trading up for a QB

Until we spend 60 mill in cap space to upgrade the entire roster around him.

Maybe you’re right. Are you open to the possibility he could get them to 9-7 with a QB-in-waiting on the roster ?

Good insight from Mike Lombardi a couple days ago: Mariota’s contract was designed to pay him as a starter for each game that he plays a significant portion of. While the base salary is only $10M, you’re paying him $20M if he’s your starter all season. A rare example where the cash is a bigger issue than the cap.

Why would you want Mariotta when he couldn't perform with one of the best running attacks in the league. I'd rather go stop gap with Nick Mullens, coach away his interceptions (if you can) and you have a serviceable QB for very cheap who threw over 2000k in each the seasons he played 8 (2018) and 10 (2020 )games. Gettable for 6-8m

Saying that my first choice is Jimmy G, give either these a better OLine to stop what they had for the 49ers. It could also stop the injuries

Jimmy G, Beathard, Mullens sacks

2018 13/19/17 total 59
2019 36/18/0 total 54
2020 11/9/19 total 39

Playing out of your mind in the most pressure filled situations means everything. EVERYTHING. So what he did in 2003 and 2004 means a helluva lot more than running up stats in some dome during the regular season. PLEASE.

Especially when the team is winning 17 games a year. The QB is not needed to rack up the stats when that is going on. Brady showed during year 2003 that he was elite. The Steelers game and especially the Super Bowl proved it.
