TE Zach Ertz wants out of Philadelphia

I could stand Ertz. He's not the mini-Gronk he was a few years ago but he's definitely got talent.

Ertz is getting cut, most likely with a post June 1 designation. The Iggles are in cap hell (currently $53 Million OVER), he is on the books for a 12 million cap hit this year. Cutting him saves them over $8 million in cap space.

IF they traded him, they would have more dead money and only half the cap savings.

Once he is cut, then you can see what he wants to sign.

Zach Ertz stating that he refuses to play for the Eagles is a PR move by he and his agent.

The Eagles are more than $53 million over the cap. He was going to be cut by Philly regardless, saving them more than $8.2 million in cap space. This statement is all about saving himself that embarrassment in a "you can't fire me, I quit" self brand promoting manner.

Philly could trade Ertz, but then their cap savings drop to $4.7 million. Any team trading for him picks up his contract ($12.5 million), and runs the risk of him being a one-year rental (he's a free agent in 2022).

All that diminishes his trade value immensely.

I was in Philly once and I also couldn't wait to get out.
Yeah, I thought I was all-in on the concept of a cheesesteak, until they pull out the Velveeta, Cheeze Wiz, or some other fake "cheese food" and smother the grease with it.

Big Ben is gonna get cut too. No, we don't want him

Lots of Steeler faithful have turned on Ben and wanted him gone before the meltdown. Totally different vibe than Brady departing and Peyton Manning leaving Indy. Both places did not want them to leave.

Best fans in the NFL are in Pittsburgh is bull5hit.

I think that if the brass BELIEVES that Asiasi/Dalton will elevate to starter material/probowl level...we might be better off signing Ertz as a "bridge" TE versus spending a pretty penny on Henry. That would allow us to sign two good receivers out of: Golladay, Allen Robinson, Corey Davis, Hilton, A.J. Green, Chris Samuel, Marvin Jones Jr., Will Fuller, John Ross....etc...so many WR's out there that I think we could get two of them on "reasonable" deals if we don't spend $$$ on Henry.

It's for insightful info like this that a research slacker like me just reads Patsfans

Not for anything more than maybe a 4th or see if he gets cut and toss a 1 year deal at him. But I think Pats will be targeting Hunter Henry hard if he hits FA.

Which big free agent will come here.. I think we should sign the middle of the pack on discount and sigb for a 3 year deal where contracts are back loaded to 3rd year. Heavy emphasis on performance..because takers for middle of the pack will be pretty low.
