BB Admits 2020 Is Bridge Year

Both. If Kraft orders him to tank the season I believe he will walk. Or if he legit gets to 2-14 with a roster that has no business losing that many games he will be on the hot seat. And rightfully so. The media will have the pitchforks out. And of course there will be the Brady questions.
This is so ludicrous. Do any of you people actually think Kraft would “ORDER” a coach to tank on purpose ? Do you think Kraft sits there watching draft prospects and says to Belichick, you better lose or we’ll lose out on “Insert prospect’s name here.” Do you think Belichick just accepts losing ? Kraft, besides being an owner, is the biggest Patriot’s fan ever. And Belichick is a winner who hates losing. You think he wants to taint his legacy just for a friggen draft pick

Tanking is a moronic concept that fans came up with. Teams don’t tank, sometimes they just suck and lose. But they don’t TRY to lose.

For instance, look at the Dolphins last year. They started the season 0-7, their fans wanted them to “Tank for Tua”, they wound up going 5-4 the rest of the season. No team PURPOSELY tanks. They got lucky, and still got Tua, but they didn’t just give up. The Pats will TRY to win every game. They just don’t have the talent to do so. I’m seeing a 4-12 season, though they may shock with an upset. But honestly, I only see them beating the Jets twice the rest of the way.

Because of opt outs. Before that they had nothing. The argument was they should have paid big money to keep those guys. They didn’t have the cap space to, plus they won 2 SBs without them pricing it was the right way to manage the cap.
So the timing of the cap space was off and also kept them out of the FA market.

The worst part of some of those down years was how the Pats would be within striking distance of the playoffs but needed some team to beat another, only to see those games always go against us.

That all changed in 2001, when the Jests beat the Raiduhs in the last game of the year to give us the Snow Bowl game in Foxboro, the last in the old stadium. BTW, my youngest son who wasn't/isn't a sports fan was in college at that time and agreed to go to the Pats last game with me in Carolina on the way back to school. There we were, with about 10,000 Pats fans in an almost empty stadium on a drizzly day, chanting J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! as we watched the scoreboard and saw the Jests win.

The Pats can go without reaching .500 for the rest of my life and I'll still feel blessed.
Last sentence sums it up. SIX SB wins. SIX ! We got to see the greatest NFL Dynasty of all time. Just incredible what Kraft, Belichick & Brady gave us. I’m a Pat’s fan since 1975. I’ve seen 1-15 and 2-14 seasons, and I was still a proud Patriot’s fan. Always will be no matter what happens the rest of the way. The joy those championships gave me, will always stick with me. The last three, I took the Monday off from work, and watched the after shows all the way until 3 in the morning I was so hyped up and happy.

We are so spoiled as fans, I know I am big time, spoiled rotten. But I’m totally at ease with whatever happens. I love when the Pats win. But a losing season doesn’t mean they won’t be back next year or the year after. I don’t think Kraft and Belichick will accept extended mediocrity. They will be a playoff team soon enough. If not next year, the year after.

BUT, I’m also a realist. The 49ers won 5 SBs between 1981-1994, and didnt get back to the SB until 18 years later in 2012. The Steelers, won 4 SBs in the 1970s, their last in the 1979 season (SB in January 1980), they didn’t win another one until 25 years later. I hope that isn’t the fate that awaits us, but I’m totally satisfied with 6 SB wins.

As a Pat’s fan my first 26 years, they got to 2 SBs, and those were THRILLING seasons despite the outcome. 19 seasons with Brady/Belichick, they went to 9 SB (NINE !), winning 6.

I'm hoping the Pats copy the NFCE and end up winning the 'division" at 6-10 or 7-9 and get to host a playoff game against a 10-6 team while another 10-6 team and their fans (hopefully the Indiots) sit home. That would be great.

As for tanking, the king of that loser tactic is the Indiots under Polian. Back in 2009 they were 14-0 and the players were psyched about the possibility of duplicating the Pats 16-0 record of two years earlier. Polian had other ideas though and told his HC to pull his players and tank the next to last game to the Jets. That way, the Jets could knock the Steelers, another team that owned Manning, out of the playoffs. Polian defended the move, while trying to hide the obvious fact that he was tanking on purpose, by bringing up the Pats 2007 "failure" in a press conference after the loss. It almost worked when Indy ended up beating the Jets in the AFCCG and going to the SB, only to gag-up a loss there on PEDton's pick-six to end it.

The Indiots then went for another tank job in 2011 to get Andrew Luck, whose dear old dad Ollie was best man at Archie Manning's wedding. This time Polian, the whiz bang HOF exec, left the Indiots without a QB so they didn't win until the end of the season when they had the top pick secured. Sadly (for them and Andrew Luck) Suck For Luck became Suck Is Luck and they haven't won squat since.

When you take out the year Brady was hurt, he went to the SB for half of his 18 seasons and won the SB for a third of them. WTF!

When did Belichick become an excuse-maker? In 20 years here he never allowed negative talk like that to ever get mentioned. Now, all of a sudden, he's whining about everything. It feels like he's being defensive.

Is he making excuses or is he preparing us for a new reality?

the most puzzling piece of the bb puzzle is why bb is not acting in the best interest of the team and doing everything in his power to tank for Trevor!

Well what I was talking about the comments that not signing jones Collins and Butler caused the problem and pointing out it was impossible to do so.

He isn’t doing either he is answering a question.
He will not tank because he isn’t a moron. Tanking is a concept designed by losers who want to see other people lose and get a reward from it.

Tanking does more damage to your franchise than any draft pick could add.

I could’ve scored there.

Either run or throw.

I've heard or read nothing that was an excuse. He was simply providing reasons.

When he manages the cap and then complains about the cap that sounds like excuse making.
Pointing out the byproduct of a 20 year relationship with their former QB and how mortgaging the future to make his final years fruitful is not excuse making, it's a financial reality. This is a reload year.

If Bill hadn’t drafted so poorly he wouldn’t have had to trade for Sanu or continually pay receivers because he couldn’t draft them. He failed Brady in his final years here.

BB traded for Sanu because Tom pouted and lobbied for him after AB got cut. Tom could have used Jakobi instead, he looked pretty good today.

Yes it’s all Tom’s fault. Bill has done nothing wrong.

You are like a heat seeking missile for "fault." Most of the stuff that happens in life isn't anyone's fault, it is just circumstance unfolding over time .
Sure, we are all disappointed. Redirecting that disappointment doesn't help anyone.

Where did the majority of starters the past five years come from? Homegrown talent... odd how one can win so often with nothing but failure.

The Pat's aren't competitive this year because of the QB play. BB took his shot with Cam and Stidham. If either one was worth a damn this team is battling for the AFC East...
Brady made it work. This year we don’t have Brady and we look like one of the worst team in the NFL.

and we don’t really have homegrown talent yet we are still riding the old ones.
