Jimmy G. benched

You really want Jimmy back after watching him perform in San Fran and his injuries? Cam is the guy for the Pats but I agree that Bill does not pay him. It will be time to restart next year with the draft to find the guy or perhaps see if another decent FA becomes available.

If Bill wants a a guy he'll pay or at least make a competitive offer.

I think Cam has been the absolute best QB option for an after Brady world. I hope he is here for a while.

No this was after Brady left. Which makes it all the funnier!:rofl::thumbsup:

You may want to settle down on the emoji usage. Good Lord.

I dont know where this idea from people of "bill wont pay for a QB" comes from. Bill was ready to pay Jimmy G $25million a year to sit on the bench BEHIND brady. Jimm y G wanted to start so he was traded. And even Jimmy G made $30million in SF per year. Quarterbacks are expensive but its the most important position. Even Ryan Tannehill makes $30million but where would the Titans be without him? probably bottom of the barrell. you CANT win without a solid quarterback. At some point Bill is going to have to pay $25million for a QB. whether thats stidham, Jimmy G, cam newton or some other QB.

We just saw what this team would look like without cam newton when Hoyer/stidham played against the chiefs and it wasnt pretty.

Just because Brady took discounts ever year because he was A. financially secure and B. at an older age and was looking more for super bowl wins than money doesnt mean that Bill wont pay a QB if he believes that that player will help them win.

I think peoples opinions are skewed because of the Brady contracts for years. They need to get it out of their mind that those contracts were not the norm and wont happen again. and cam newton signing for peanuts was just luck due to covid not allowing teams to get him in for a physical. thats not happening again either.

It's interesting how far Jimmy G has fallen. I wonder what the narrative would have been if SF had held on to win the SB, or even if Jimmy G completed that bomb after only being down 24-20. It seems like the 2nd half of the 4th quarter has doomed Jimmy G AND the 49ers. The SB losing curse seems to be real. The Pats were the last team to lose a SB one year and win it the next year. I believe before then, in was the 1970s when it happened.

That 9'ers game looks a lot more winnable than it did earlier in the year.

we're 2-2. If we win, we're 3-2 and they're 4-2. We're still down a game.
1/2 a game to be exact, but the most important part is that they'd now be tied in the loss column.
Questions....

What kind of extension do you think Bill would offer the 31 yr old running QB?

Given Cam’s classification of his signing with NE as a “business trip” and his minimal current salary, do you think he will seek to maximize his income going forward or is “best fit” his priority?

Bonus question:

Given his every other game streak, will Tompa throw a pick 6 this weekend?
1st question: I'll wait until the season ends to answer that.
2nd question: Probably. I don't like what I've seen from him and I've been one of his biggest cheerleaders.

It was his time to shine and put that game away after KC punched them back in the mouth. This video breaks down how badly he messed up. Shanahan didn't help the cause either:

The Pats secondary is going to embarrass him, if he even plays.

I always figured it's fair game to say "benched in the 3rd quarter" or whatever, even if he comes back next game, based on the fact that you aren't standing up and running around on grass or turf, or getting pummeled to the grass or turf, you're sitting on a bench. verb that noun, badda bing badda boom.

As to Jimmy G being made of glass... I sort of worried about that for a while when I was thinking "hmm. How far from end of Brady are we, anyway...? Maybe he's the guy... maybe..."

We were all watching with baited breath, I was thinking, wait, how often is this injury thing going to happen? I am sure I wasn't alone, but we spent most of our time on year early vs. year late arguments if I remember correctly.

A running game was always Jimmy’s best friend.

J.T. Sullivan puts out good stuff but I disagree with him on a few of his play calling assessments.

JG is likely in time to be an average NFL QB. Not more, and not less. If Bill wants one of those, and he might at some point, Jimmy could be your man. The problem is that these days even a mediocre qb commands ridiculous money, sucks up that cap space, which would argue for the "why not get us a great one for that money" approach. The danger there is the Jets Scenario, where you spend decades chasing futile dreams (kind of like the Pats with ouitside wr's). You never know, Bill just might be intrigued with settling on a "just don't make no stupid mistakes or ask for a raise" type. I believe there have been more than a few of those over the years at other positiions. Maybe that's what Stidham is. Hoyer, of course, is less than that.

something happened to Jimmy. he looked great for a game and a half in new england and then when he was traded to the 49ers and won like 5-6 straight games.

maybe its coaching. i mean Cam newton looks alot better this year with better coaching

Jimmy is starting tomorrow. He did not appear on the injury report all week so his ankle must have been fine and not the reason he was benched.

Looking at the video of the last 10 minutes of the SB has me thinking that the blame goes to everyone. There were a lot of mistakes. Seeing that video reminded me of the Pats loss in the SB in 2011. They went pass happy against a team whose weakness was the run defense.

Every QB get figured out. It is incumbent on the player to get better. There was barely any tape on Jimmy for his first few starts but his weaknesses were there and teams started to rush him as he always falls back against pressure and then confuse him with different looks pre and post snap. The same thing is happening right now with Mahomes. Defenses started to get a beat on him last year which is why he went from 50 Tds down to 26. He was horrific in the SB but bailed out by terrible Jimmy the last 6 minutes. You can see it again this year. Teams are now built to stop Mahomes. He will have to continue to adjust to be great and of course also stay healthy. I am not sold yet that Mahomes has the great football IQ like Rodgers, Brees, Wilson, Brady. He can develop it but he is not there yet.

Jimmy: 23/33 268 yards 3 TD 124 passer rating against a defense with Aaron Donald. All with a high ankle sprain. Huh.

Doubt we’ll hear many breathless takes about his demise this week.

I like Jimmy. It’s fun to cheer for him.

Yes, I'll take him despite his injury concerns. Great release, accurate. He wasn't benched last week, he was not able to throw off his foot. They had a great comparison of how he was throwing and favoring the left ankle last week compared to this week.

Never wanted us to jettison TFB for Jimmy but I root for many ex-Pats like Jimmy. Glad to see him healthy enough to play to his potential.

Jimmy was very good last night. Set is feet. Looked very comfortable. The Niners will be tough to beat for us on Sunday. They are volumes more talented than Denver.

I thought some of us here overrated his stint here a bit but he is a really good QB. Just one throw away from probably beating the Chiefs in the SB. Refs also somehow took away a nice pass to Kittle before the half that would have gotten them points.

Agreed and we'll need to tackle very well. The radio guys were saying this morning that 80%+ of the passing yards were after the catch so we have to limit that and hope the offense can put up 20+.
