I still kinda like Kizer, but not for the same reason as Mullens. Kizer is a backup at best, but I appreciated his willingness to go out there and take a beating every Sunday. Not what I would want Mullens to be doing.

But my overall point is that I think Mullens is a sleeper pick based on what I'm seeing of him on the field I'm actually impressed with his talent as a pocket passer. His problem right now is INTs, and I think that's because of the collapse of the 49ers defense. When a guy is playing from behind, he takes risks and risks mean picks. If he can break that habit or if his defense can start making the most of their talent again he could make something of himself.

I think he's better than bottom-third starters like Andy Dalton or Gardner Minshew right now. And he's far and away better than Cam at the moment.
What? What?

Look beyond the win loss record. This dude completes passes at a very high rate has a great release time and moves well in the pocket. The stats are the stats, and I don't like the interception numbers, but that tells me he's got the wrong offense, not that he himself is bad.

also by the time the team is using Mullens they're usually pretty ravaged by injury in other areas too, so no, I'm not putting too much stock in the W-L record of a backup quarterback. By that standard we should be worshipping the legend that is Brock Osweiler, and look how that turned out.
Why would I look beyond the win loss record? That’s why you play.
Or you can be obtuse and act like putting up raw numbers and failing when the game is on the line is good.

Mullens has a career completion rate of over 65%. that's better than Brady at the same age. Now you can't make a straight 1-1 comparison, but Mullens' main problem is making bad reads on man coverage, which is where his picks are happening. I honestly think that a good coach could work with him on that and bring that number down, and that's his main Achilles heel as a QB right now.

Also it's not like most of Mullens' losses have been for lack of offensive production. Of his 5 losses his team scored 20 or more points in 3 of them which means he was scoring on his chances but the defense was giving up more .

He also hasn't thrown for less than 200 yards in any game he's played in this year except the very first one when he came in in relief. He's got issues with drive killing picks which explains his W-L ratio but that's true of a lot of young QBs including TB12 back in the day.

I dunno about you but I'd love to have that level of production compared to what we're currently getting in the air.

again, what happened to the man, the myth, the legend, Brock Osweiler and his winning record as a backup

Your argument is insane and sounds like an argument you make up after your initial position is proven to be nonsense.

The least useful stat of a backup QB is probably his W-L record. It's like trying to judge a relief pitcher based on wins and losses, it says almost nothing. W-L is not as useful for starters as people pretend it is either but at least the entire offense is schemed and built around what a starting QB can do so it does tell you something useful, for backups? Not really.

So you think that valuing winning means you ignore everything else? You are embodying your name.
Insane?
I replace a mediocre QB on a winning team with a guy who puts up numbers but loses, and you think that’s meaningless.
If you believe the game should be played for stats and making plays that win games is meaningless you have missed an epic 20 year opportunity to learn something.
Winning and losing doesn’t happen to players it happens because of players and compiling stats and saying it’s not up to you to win is for losers.

I’d prefer to win.

Which is more likely, that a guy lost through no fault of his own or that a guy had a 65% completion rate through no fault of his own.

You are nuts. End of.

Neither.

You play the game to win not to have a pretty stat.

It's going to be either Jimmy G or Brissett for us next year, I am almost positive. Belichick won't want to give up top dollar or compensation to acquire a high level QB. He can go draft one but with the pick we have, what high level college QB would still be around? It's much more likely that he gets a veteran stop gap and then draft one in the mid round as a lottery ticket. If that indeed is the route he takes, you know he likes Jimmy and Jacoby, and both could be available. Makes too much sense not to happen if you ask me.

Loved what I saw last night. He was in an impossible situation and made some nice passes on the move. He can throw better than Cam. That's enough for me. Let's bring him to camp.

Three factors to consider...

-A two page thread on Mullens and no one mentions he will be a restricted free agent (according to Spotrac).

-Also, Mullens was a UDFA which eliminates the "original round tender" designation leaving SF one less option to receive compensation.

-Finally, the guy is 6'1" 210lbs

which veteran would you want if we signed one?

do you see anybody who could make our team better? or do you think the draft is a better option?
Depends who comes free. I’d like Matt Ryan, I would take Jimmy G.
Gotta draft a qb no matter what. I’m just not interested in a mediocre qb who puts up stats between the 20s and when the game is out of reach but can’t make the plays that decide games.

I've wanted Teddy Bridgewater since he was at Louisville. Still think he would be good in our offense.

Not a fan, but I can see the thought process. He’s a dink and dunker which fits our system.
i just don’t see the composure and clutch play on vital drives that is probably the most important piece to me.
