I don't see where we disagree, I've never ever claimed you didn't need good to great QB play to win a ring... but you can get that from lesser players of the offensive line, tight ends, defense and special teams are good enough.

The 2017 Eagles were the best team in the league all season, they won the ring... neither Nick Foles or Carson Wentz was or is anything special. Andy Reid had Alex Smith on the cusp on an NFL MVP award... TEAM matters first and foremost.

So to support your case you mention Hostetler( early '90s) and Rypien(late 80s/early 90s)? Then everyone else you bring up didnt even play in a SB, they were only in playoffs.
Thank you for proving my point. There have been 14 SBs since 2006. Thats 28 starting qbs. I dont need to research or look anything up- I know for a FACT that the VAST majority of those 28 qbs were good and a majority probably great. Brady, Rodgers,Ben,Brees, Mahomes,Warner,Peyton off the top of my head. Thats roughly 13 right there- not counting Peyton in 2015 becuz he was mediocre then. And most of the rest were all at least good qbs leading up to the SB.

Not surprisingly great franchises and teams who draft and assemble talent well also find good QB's.

Since 2006 since that seems to be a magic number for you; Rex Grossman, Colin Kaeperkick vs Joe Flacco (one game), Peyton Manning with a broken neck who could barely beat out Brock Osweiler, Nick Foles, Jared Goff and for some reason Eli Manning won twice while Aaron Rogers and Brees only have one career win.

Some ^ real world beaters there, the parameters for "franchise caliber QB" seem flexible. Oh yeah and Cam Newton made it once but the Patriots are doomed in 2020 because Tom is no longer the QB... really the key to any good debate is consistency.

Mahomes couldn't carry the 28th ranked defense to a win in 2018, Tom Brady doesn't win a ring in 2016 if Dion Lewis and that D don't help him beat the Texans in the first round because he wasn't good.

QB's are overrated, it's important to get good QB play... but if Nick Foles and Joe Flacco can win rings then the need for a transcendent QB is overblown. You need good QB play to win a ring, that's true of all three phases and just about every position group.

What gets lost with all this is that the 49ers were in competition with the Pats to obtain Sanu before they settled on Sanders.

Chris Simms, who's close to Kyle Shanahan, said the 49ers backed off Sanu when the price tag was a 2nd.

Dunno if the Patriots were really in contention for Sanders this time. I know they tried years ago and the Steelers matched their offer sheet.

And Sanders was also going to sign with the Pats in 2014 had Billy offered him the same money Amendola received. Billy didn't do it, which came back to haunt in him in the 2015 AFCCG with Sanders snagging many tough 3rd down grabs. He also had Pro Bowl seasons in Denver.

The "who cares if he catches it" defense. The most overrated game used to defend Sanu on Patsfans.com. He averaged a pedestrian 8.1 yards per catch and his TD was a legally schemed pick play. People like to focus too much on his "10 catches".

The good news is that unlike what Harry thinks "no pressure on him", the pressure is on Harry to take the diapers off. He's in for a rude awakening if he thinks there's no pressure with the prospect of UDFA's, late rounds picks or a FA outperforming him. The media spotlight will be on full display for him now. No more hiding behind Edelman, Gordon, Brown, and now Sanu.
