La Canfora: Brady unlikely to sign extension, will test free agency

I don't know if Mrs. Brady would like it in Tennessee, but the Titans would be a good place for Brady, if they were also bringing back Henry.

But what would Adam Humphries do with an unstable, old QB coming in?

I would think that the Henry extension would be signed before Brady is signed.

Tom wants to get courted.

If Vrabel wants him, I think he goes to Tennessee. I had LA as a early favorite, but their coaching and O-line is crap.

Pats don’t have enough time to show Brady next years offensive players will be better then last year. This was why I was so adamant that the player that wears number 15 to get his a** on the field and show something. Now you have all these rookie wide receiver showing promise except for that guy. The guy they traded a 2nd round pick for was another disaster and Brady knows it.

Not to mention the O-line as bad as their were will have another hole when Thuney leaves.

I think the Titans is highly possible. But the last pass being a pick-6 is f*cking disgusting.

Thanks, Mohamed.

I’m in favor of tarring and feathering Sanu.

Ive watched Brady since 9th grade.

I remember days of being unpopular and not fitting in. Brady's demeanour and how he never gives up shaped me as a man slightly. Its been special watching him as an awkward teen and then a man.

Hey now. That guy was limited on the injury report for a few weeks and even missed a game right before Thanksgiving, so it must have been his ankle.

That they’ve spent years trying to acquire this stiff just goes to show how fcked their wide receiver scouting is. They can be the most successful franchise ever, but no one can convince me their WR philosophy isn’t a total dysfunctional mess. In some ways I would like to see Brady in another offensive system and imagine he’d be really darn good running some much more simplified offense where you don’t have a PhD in Physics to get open. He seemed quite pleased with Moss and AB, and I don’t think either of those guys are getting into Yale.

C'mon, they've mistakes but have had Welker, Edelman, Moss, Deion Branch, Givens, Amendola.

I put all this reporting as reliable as the papers in the supermarket checkout line.

speaking of that, I just got back because I was out of both beer and cookies.

and the tabloids have this..

I’m pretty sure Tangway writes for them

Well after he fathered that 2-headed child on that poor, innocent alien during the Area 51 rush, who can blame her?

System QB. Whoever gets him will be overpaying.

AB had 4 catches for 56 yards in one game against a horrendous secondary. Not sure I’d read that much into it.

Randy Moss had a ton of football smarts. Just ask Bill.

I get the WR argument, and agree to some extent, but what simplified offense would fit Brady better at 43?

If the Pats didn’t feel comfortable giving him a multi-year deal last season, what makes you think they’d suddenly be good with a 3 year deal a full calendar later? Unless I’m reading this incorrectly, I don’t think that’s a very reasonable scenario.

There were reports the one year contract was considered mutually beneficial. Who knows what's going through Brady's head, but this year to year contract game does not seem like a good thing to continue.

As I see it, there are mainly three options for next season:
a) pay Brady what he wants, give him guaranteed money, bolster the offense and for salary cap reasons make that a multi year contract, so you can push as much into future years as possible to make that happen. Basically sacrifice the foreseable future for 1-3 good years. Then make a hard cut, go through cap hell and rebuild.
b) let Brady go, hire a bridge quarterback, a journey man, to give Stidham or maybe a new rookie of this years draft time to develope. Try to make the transition as smooth and successful as possible, defenitely compete in the AFC East, maybe win a game in the playoffs.
c) let Brady go and do the cut now. Continue with Stidham, draft a new QB, maybe cut other veterans like Gilmore and do a complete overhaul - whatever BB seems necessary.

I am missing Bill Belichick in this discussion here. We do not only have the GOAT at Quarterback and should make it possible he retires as a patriot. We also have the arguably best coach to ever coch in the NFL. And that guy still has some goals in his mind, some records to break.
So if you sacrifice the future for Brady, you are at the same time hurting Belichicks legacy. And I dont think there is a scenario with Bill an Tom working for the patriots next season and also paying Brady big time money on a one year deal. A multi year deal is not in Bills interest. If Kraft insists keeping Brady for whatever he wants, I could envision Belichick leaving. He has feelings, too :) Therefore I am not sold on option a). If its gonna be b) or c) is up to Belichick, though it will be hard to see Brady playing for someone else, while paying 15-20m for a bridge guy, so 28-33m against the cap for the quarterback position.

I guess I’m just skeptical that the team is going to offer more than a one year deal. I hope they do.

One where the personnel to run it exists even if you don’t have have a Hall of Fame tight end...and one where you wouldn’t just overlook a guy like Edelman during his four year rookie deal and not seem to even understand what you’re looking for.

I’m skeptical TB wants to come back.
