La Canfora: Brady unlikely to sign extension, will test free agency

I think we still drop roughly 6 1/2 million this year if he goes past 3/18 not the full 13 but ..... I might be wrong.

No, it would be the full $13.5 million. Again, it’s not a big deal at all to structure any contract Brady should sign after 3/18 to push $6.75 forward to the 2021 cap or beyond to account for the additional $6.75 rolled up to 2020 should the contract not be extended before it voids.

The Patriots probably will not make an offer to Brady. Their idea of a fair offer would be
$25 mil minus the cap money already on the books. This would amount to $18.5 mil. tops.
They might add a lot of not likely to be earned incentives and then switch to a running
offense which would limit his chances of making them.

I think he’s getting offered more than $25m per year and probably for 2-3 years, mostly guaranteed.

I mean he really wants to go play for another team for the 2 remaining years he has left of playing?

Why not stick around and finish what you’ve started in NE.
Maybe because they blew it beyond all comprehension with the last draft, and then the owner basically flipped Brady the bird by cutting the player that gave him a great shot at #7?

I would love to see Brady return if the organization does a (vastly) better job this April than they did a year ago and hits it out of the park a la 2010. But it's not difficult to see why he's considering other options.

What are the thoughts on Taysom Hill?
I read one report who suggested BB would happily give up pick 23 and give him big money.
Would be quite a gamble.
One that could net exciting results.
However if this is the train of thought it be tough not to just sign Mariota.

Hill is 29 years old and is more of a gadget player than anything. I would rather put my time and energy into developing the next GOAT.

Whom would offer that?

Raiders, Colts, Chargers, Dolphins, Bills are all possible. I’d say the first three are more likely than the last two.

Whom would offer that?

Who would offer a below market deal to the best QB on the market?

You really can't think of any teams that would do that?

Definitely not the Bills, Allen has been good enough for them that I don't think they're going to punt on him to get 1-2 years of Brady. The rest are definite possibilities, though.

He has 13 career NFL passes, has completed 6 of them, and thrown 1 interception. He had a nearly 1:1 TD:INT ratio and a career completion percentage below 60% in college, and BYU hardly plays in the SEC.

I mean, why acquire some other team's gadget guy to start at QB when the obvious solution is on the roster? Mohamed Sanu ran similar gadget plays in Atlanta and was better at it (perfect 158.3 passer rating on 8 attempts!), where are all the "reports" about him being Plan B if Brady leaves? Maybe that's why they gave up the 2nd rounder!

Agreed. Brady might be a great mentor to a young QB, though.

I dont think brady is playing 2 more yrs to mentor anyone .He probably will be immersed 100 % in staying out there to win a SB.

Lot of teams overpay for even avg QBs and he is above avg QB in the current set of nfl QBs easily.
But will he be average in a year? No one knows, but history is not comforting on old, declining QBs.

Lot of teams are okay to take that chance. look at the vikings and favre. almost paid off.

I think vrabel will go after brady. They have the cap space to add pieces on defense as well.

While Titans make the most sense from a pure football perspective.
I can't help but think about the marketing and promoting that Vegas or LA would do for TB12.
My gut tells me the Raiders.
