Peter King -One on One with Brady

Yeah, quitting cannabis like 6 months prior to a test wont work.

On the off chance you're being serious you need around 30 days for the average person with a fast to start the final week followed by some gorging.

I actually thought the more interesting stuff came from Kraft. My mind glazes over when it comes to following sports contract stories, but I hadn’t realized Brady wanted to be a free agent after this year (I just read other bits on this board that covered this), as Kraft says:

“Before the season started,” Kraft said, “it was very important to Tom that he be free to do whatever he wanted at the end of the year. You know what I said to myself? That any person who plays 20 years for this team and helps us get to six Super Bowls, and been really selfless, has earned that right. I love the young man like he’s part of my family. Blood family. Anyone who’s done that has earned the right to control his future after 20 years. And you know, my hope and prayer is number one, he play for the Patriots. Or number two, he retires. He has the freedom to decide what he wants to do and what’s in his own best personal interest.”

This quote from Kraft is either:

(a) a direct contradiction to what Brady said about negotiations, or
(b) incredibly disingenuous, if not a lie

It may be true that Brady said this in the context of being denied an extension. In other words, fine, if you won’t commit longer term, I’m out of here and the franchise tag is off the table. The non-committing was the impetus for wanting his freedom to find a team willing to give him a longer leash, though.

Unless Brady’s lying about it and is the one who didn’t want an extension (seeing the team’s issues.). But I doubt that. Bob is known to be a liar, like most owners.

I agree. They get changed and refined and they can get pretty complicated, but teams still often know what's coming. Easy for Brady to implement because he's been with the Pats from the beginning through all the derivations and refinements. That's one reason Harry was so limited. He had to learn not only how to play receiver in the NFL but also the Pats system.

Metcalf, on the other hand, had a very limited route tree and could freelance, so his orientation in Seattle was much easier.
Which is why I'm suspicious when people point to some rookie on another team who had a good year and say "If BB had just drafted that guy things would have been FANTASTIC". Maybe it would be, or maybe Brady would almost never throw to that receiver because they weren't able to develop "trust".

Agreed. Given how Curren previously reported things, it’s option B, misleading at best. It should have been:

“Before the season started,” Kraft said, “but after we told Tom we couldn’t give him a multi-year contract, it was very important to Tom that he be free to do whatever he wanted at the end of the year. You know what I said to myself? That any person who plays 20 years for this team and helps us get to six Super Bowls, and been really selfless, has earned that right. Remember how Bob told us he didn't do anything wrong at the spa?

I have this feeling he is coming just like i had with Adam Vinateri and was shocked to see him leave. Lets hope it doesnt happen that way.

Well 6-10 seasons here we come I remember the early 80's and 90's Patriots Teams.

As do I. We have been spoiled. I remember much worse than 6-10. How about 1-15 with Rod Rust.

But we have milked this TB thing for as long as is reasonably possible. Now we will see who the REAL fans are.
We will really see what sticking by your team through thick and thin means.

This matches my gut instincts/personal speculation. I think Brady, seeing the end of his career looming, was disappointed with the roster moves that reduced his opportunity to repeat. Specifically AB. I also think Belichick was right to send AB packing.

Beyond all that I think Belichick will flat out refuse to make commitments to a player in regards to how he will fill or maintain the other 52 roster spots in order to sign a player even if that player is Brady.

I'm pretty resigned to Brady seeking greener offensive pastures somewhere else as a result of the above impasse and I expect Kraft to flinch if it comes down to a battle of wills between him and Belichick over how to treat Brady. I think Kraft cares about legacy but he has to know that keeping the Belichick regime in place is much more likely to yield future championships than if he puts his foot down and demands that Brady be kept around.
Where does the article say any of that?

Belichick is always looking long term.

Brady for the first time in his career is looking short term.

Belichick is not going to change how he build champions to make Brady feel better. His responsibility is to the team and ensuring it is competitive for the long haul.
Not keeping the goat would be changing how he builds a champion

“Yeah,” said Brady. “I think I’m just . . . I’ll explore those opportunities whenever they are. If it’s the Patriots, great. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know. I just don’t know. I love playing football. I still want to play football. I think I still can play at a championship level. I’ve just got to go do it. I’m motivated to get back to work and training.”

Hes going no where if you dont short change his offense again.
This idea that he blames the weapons is a fabrication.

I think everyone realizes that.

Ultimately you have diverging goals when it comes to Belichick and Brady. Belichick has explicitly stated that they build a roster to compete year in and year out - specifically as regards cap management and building a locker room conducive to winning.

Brady is winding down his career and would like to lift another Lombardi.

Both are understandable goals. But they may not be compatible and I highly doubt Belichick is going to essentially give Brady say in roster building which is what I think it may take to get Brady to come back.
When has brady even implied that he disagrees With bbs roster building or wants a say?
He wants to be back and out no limitations in it.

I think if we caught 30 % of our passes more this yr and didnt commit bad penalties in critical offensive plays this yr , it would be a different story . We dont need some iconic WR. Just someone who can catch. Everyone including jules had the dropsies this yr.

Tate is not iconic but he’s a much better wideout than sanu. Also maybe guys that can get separation. That can beat man coverage or whatevs coverage. Sanu and harry failed in that department.

The other thing no one is thinking about is that the OC is leaving. The new OC may want a different type of QB.
The mobile QB is envogue these days. Maybe BB wants to change the offense? I still think we should bring Brady back.
But BB may have a different opinion.

Brady doesn't need to imply or state something for me to believe it's the case. Common sense would tell you that after easily the worst offensive outing of his career Brady isn't going to want to work just for a repeat of it.

He started the year very well and then stuff happened . Brown saga. Also Gordon really didn’t contribute much. He started the year giving us good games Edelman wasn’t 100 percent. White became our second leading wideout.

This idea that he blames the weapons is a fabrication.

Is it now?

Because I just watched an entire season where he *****ed, moaned and looked beside him self at the **** he was expected to work with.

He goes where Josh goes, no? Same system, language, etc.

Pats have invested in offense in the draft too in the last few yrs. wynn, harry, michel are all first round picks . We couldve used a DT last saturday . Not saying the picks are the greatest and they hit on all of them but they have focused on offense. It hasnt panned out as well - if you call winning a SB and going 12-4 as not panning out.

Well in the end he was right. Yes he could have delivered a couple of balls but there was also drops etc. Not being in the same page but these guys hardly got any separation. I am sure bill expected more from sanu in 9 games. 26 rec for 207 1 td is putrid from sanu.
