“We’re onto Buffalo...”

Injuries taking a toll on 2 of our offensive weapons. I don’t expect Jones to play on D.

Thank you!!! I was wondering when someone (who's face ISN'T buried in the stat sheet) was going to finally bring up this one very salient point.

Once again, they could have very easily won this game without Brady and Edelman on Sunday - - this team needs injury management right now and THAT was an opportunity missed. I hope it doesn't bite them in the butt.

.

Given our offense against a better defense than Sunday, we will need more than a positive turnover ratio. Consider Sunday with a +1 turnover ratio, and then throw in a real defense. The picture ism't pretty. IMO, unless the offense gets much, much better, the defense will need to be at least +3.

If this team is viewed primarily from the prism of offense then there is a ton to be concerned about. I prefer to focus on the best defense in the league and excellent special teams. Assume they will need to have a positive turnover ratio to make it to the Super Bowl and the offense will need to take advantage of some shirt fields. Won't be easy but they are more than capable of beating anyone at home and would have at least a punchers chance in KC or Baltimore. They've overcome tougher odds than this in the past.

The issue is the amount risk to be taken when every win is critical.

Get the win, and the bears take down the chiefs and we can enjoy a much needed bye. For the love of god, get a bye, please.

Sunday night game in Chicago???? If the Pats take care of business on Saturday, THAT would be must-watch TV. Unfortunately, the Bears are eliminated.

If they can throw caution to the wind and just ball out, though, that would be a 2 week bye in that case-right?

I can think it would be great for Brady, Edelman, Mason, Karras, Sanu, Chung, etc. 21-22 days without any games could be just what the Dr. ordered.

I want this win to shut up the bills mafia. 42 page thread on their board saying all the teams SB titles are tainted and BB should be banned for life.
Mentioned this in the Kraft thread but when teams stop comparing themselves to us then we have a problem. Patriots are like the UxSx. Lots of **** to talk abt us but we're all anyone is compared to & people would sell their mother for our sustainable success.

Obviously, the running QBs will have a higher contact rate. However, it’s pretty interesting that Brady’s contact rate is that low considering the state of the OL & the beating he’s (mostly) taken this year.
Calculated throwaways factor in as well, I guess.

This is one of those stats that doesn't matchup with what my eyes remember seeing. I don't doubt them, I just wonder where that disconnect is. Maybe, in my mind, 1 hit on Tom Brady is 1 too many :D

Edit: Did some quick research and I'm calling shenanigans on this. He's SACKED on 4.5% of his drop backs. You're telling me he's only touched on 1.5% of the rest of them? I'm not buying it.

I believe those stats.

Brady's main comping mechanism when protection collapses is to get rid of the ball immediately. It depresses his completion % but avoids hits, sacks and fumbles.

Need to find throw away stat for all QBs this year but can't see it. I see one page says Brady has 38 throw aways so far. I would expect he has to be tops of the league in that stat just from the eye test.

I've been thinking abt writing something abt why Brady is the GOAT. Playing QB is like a barter system. Its an exchange. You could out Wilson behind an all-time OL & he'd still take a ton of sacks bc it's a conscious choice he's making. His OL sux but they're the reason for the majority of his sacks/hits etc. Those are QB stats for the most part.
Back to the barter system. Nobody is as good at manipulating the pocket to avoid hits. No one.
Pressure/Rush forces you to make decisions & almost EVERYONE gets hit w some type of drawback. Sacks, low ypa, explosive plays. Brady is simply great at everything.

If I were to list his best attributes his accuracy/placement might not be top 5. Definitely not the greatest arm talent. Its his pocket presence, pre/post decision making & his toughness by miles imo. Let's be honest he's not a great athlete but able to maneuver around the pocket as good as anyone bc of his footwork & awareness. Even today guys like Mahomes, Jackson could take pages of notes on Tom's footwork & feel for the pocket.
Pre snap he might be the best ever & post snap he's rarely fooled or forced into a bad play bc of disguise or a stupid play.
His toughness, physical & mentally can't be overstated. Dude is absolutely never rattled in game which leads to him being so clutch. Physically might not look like much but I've seen 12 take some enormous shots & just get back up like it's nothing. From that insane hit he took in Buffalo his first year starting I believe to present day. Cold, wind, rain, Tom is as good as it gets no matter the conditions.

Sorry for the rant. Guess I could have just said these sack/pressure stats are QB stats more than OL.

*Edit*
I've watched anything available, new & old. Never seen a QB take a harder hit. Collected himself on the ground for a second. No screaming or even looking for a flag. OL'm can't believe it, they put a hand on him just to be safe. I watched that live & will never forget that clap at the end. Easily one of the toughest QBs ever.

"Oh no", what?
Just messing w ya but our offense was/is a lot more complicated then that. Too many think of that time as backyard football when it was the same offense we've always run.

Leads the league in throw aways and drops. Obviously not the whole story since he's also thrown alot of bad passes.

I hope that we're onto Buffalo. They were certainly onto us that last time we played them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught the typo in this thread title. Maybe someone can edit it to say "On To" rather than "Onto"?

Good news is Brady is off as is Sanu. So, this elbow business is not really a real injury.

I am assuming it was some kind of a bruise or something.

Here's hoping J. McCourty can rebound later in the week for work on Beasley. Shut Jones down. He's vital to the team's chances (like he would have been in SB52 over a mentally checked out Malcolm Butler), vs KC or Balt on their speed guys.

I know it is, but they made exceptions for Moss. They played to his strengths. First time BB did that.

Only guy I've seen as good or maybe better was Marino. He had incredible pocket awareness and feet.

Brady is tough, no doubt.

I wonder how many hits he took in early 2017 when he took a lot. Remember that? Cooks was new and a lot of his routes were of the deeper variety, and would take some time to develop.

I figured the amount of times he was actually hit wasn't as high as many were claiming.
