No matter who wins, Saints fans will say it's tainted

I've watched plenty of Rams games where I saw him going ape5hit on the sidelines after much lesser bad calls.

What I want him to say? I don't know, how about something like "It's unfortunate, but I don't make the calls".

I don’t think I’ve ever seen McVay go crazy over a call.
What he should say is what is the best message to his team. I think he did that.

So there is a way to make it perfect then.

The winner of the coin toss must pass “the lottery” test. There are a hundred balls bouncing around, and three of them are marked with a skull and crossbones. The ref selects a ball, and 97% of the time, the coin toss winner avoids the skull and crossbones, but when it does hit, it’s an automatic loss for the receiving team.

Now those odds are 50% even, and not 53%.

Actually, the odds of the visiting team winning when getting the ball first are less than 50%. The solution seems obvious - take the coin flip out of the decision and have the kickoff go to the visiting team.

I said it on the other thread, but of all the NFL conspiracy theories I’ve heard, “the NFL told the refs to make sure the Rams win because they want them to be champions when they move into their new stadium” is probably in the dumbest top 5%.

Saints run one play, probably takes 3-4 seconds off so let’s say 1:53 left in the 4th. Rams now out of timeout and with a 40 second play clock that’s 80 seconds burned.

So after the field goal, probably less than 20 seconds or around there. Probably less than that if the Saints were going for a touchdown (which they should if they got a 1st & Goal).

The game SHOULD have been over if the Saints had just run the ball 3 times and kicked a FG, leaving the Rams with about 45 seconds and no TO's to get the ball into FG range. Thanks to this controversy, noone is talking about the EPIC blunder Payton made before that play.

No is talking about how instead of getting his team to move on and play the rest of the game, he was seen continually whining to the refs just like his team. Can you see Bill doing that? No he would have simply destroyed the tablet and moved on to the next play.

Peyton should be ashamed. He didn't do his job, and his team suffered for it. They had TONS of time to recover from that bad call. They didn't, and they lost. I feel bad for their fans. I feel bad for Brees. But I have nothing but DISTAIN for Sean Peyton.

Absolutely Bill would've been furious. He's lashed out at officials before. And you really think the Rams kicker wouldn't have attempted to kick a FG from 60 yards, inside a dome no less? Goff could run a play or two to get within the margin for Greg Zuerlein to make that kick. He's kicked from 60 yards before twice.

It's about as perfect as you're going to get. The winner of the coin toss wins about 53% of the time.

And unlike the old OT rules, there is a potential advantage for the second team to get the ball.

Advantage for receiving team:
1.) Can win with TD (never letting other team get the ball)
2.) Will get the ball first in a 'sudden death' scenario if both teams trade FGs.

Advantage for original kicking team
1.) If receiving team scores a FG, the team will have the advantage of using all FOUR downs to get into field goal range


So the scale is still tilted towards the receiving team, but at least the second team does get some advantage.

As much as I sympathize with Saints fans, try losing an undefeated season on what should have been called a sack or at the very least, an offensive holding penalty.

I certainly agree, but those calls can get overlooked all the time.

The Saints play was OTHER-WORLDLY bad as in 999 officials out of 1000 would have thrown a flag. Like this was SOOOOO bad even the league couldn't spin it into a valid non-call.

It's amazing that people think the Rams have fans. There's not even a goddamn Rams bar in DC. For reference, there's a ****ing Jaguars bar in DC. Yeah, this is the team that the league has decided to champion by, uh, giving them long odds at winning on two 50+ yard field goals after giving the Saints the ball at midfield (after a gift DPI call) in overtime.

If the Saints drove down the field and scored in overtime, the outrage would be over the makeup phantom pass interference call on that ****ty backup tight end who dropped a touchdown in the 1st quarter rather than the non-call.

Was the call ****? Sure. Did it cost the Saints the game? Was the call part of a nebulous conspiracy to get a team literally nobody cares about to the Super Bowl because of some convoluted reason involving a new stadium? No. Obviously not. Don't be ****ing stupid. The Rams needed like a last-second 60 yard field goal to tie the game and an interception literally made by a guy on his back on the Rams side of the field in overtime for a chance at a long field goal for the win. One thinks the refs would've done a better job with the fix if it was really in.
