This pic always cracks me up.
Bill. Surrounded by reporters at the coaches breakfast. Makes them wait while he's sipping OJ.
It’s his shirt that seals the deal.

For all this discussion about draft advantages/disadvantages, we all know in our hearts that, if BB had the #1 overall pick and couldn't trade out of it for more picks, he'd still take somebody like Jordan Richards.
He would have taken Baker or traded down for more picks.
Oh of course, but the degree of which it’s an advantage is highly debatable. Especially in the context that some here have tried to frame it. You can maintain a dynasty (as we’ve seen with the Patriots and other teams that have been good for longer periods of time) without drafting earlier as long as you hit on your picks. You can’t give BB the kind of credit we did from 2010-2013 while drafting in the bottom of each round without giving him the blame when he doesn’t hit on those early picks ala 2014-2017. The players are still there. If you miss, you miss. Blaming draft position is a cop out. When you pick matters. That’s why everyone in the NFL would prefer to have the #1 pick in the draft.
It’s like if you need a job done around your house and you are hiring. If you have more money, you’ll be able to afford more expensive plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. odds are you’ll be able to afford a better worker than your neighbor who has half your money.
Doesn’t mean you’re gonna make a wise choice though. You might still pick a crappy guy. Conversely, the guy with half your money may know more about this than you and pick a better guy. But having more resources OF COURSE is an advantage. This is self-evidently so.
It’s why everyone would like to make more money than they do. It’s an advantage.
I was dead set against taking Mayfield. I wanted no part of his antics after seeing the crap he pulled at OU.He would have taken Baker or traded down for more picks.
The rumors (that we all say are worthless) were that we were interested in Baker and Lamar.Well, I definitely would've taken Baker. To me, he looked like to most NFL-ready of all the prospects - from technical abilities to playing style to attitude.

See I understand where you're coming from & I'm not going to pretend to know but he seems like good guy to me.I was dead set against taking Mayfield. I wanted no part of his antics after seeing the crap he pulled at OU.
I'm still not sure about his brain and his charater but his talent is undeniable.

If the Browns add some more pieces on D and more help on the line they are absolutely a playoff team.See I understand where you're coming from & I'm not going to pretend to know but he seems like good guy to me.
Try not to have "Binkys" but hes close. Ultimate underdog. Short white guy that likes to dance around like he invented smooth. Hes the guy that uses every slight. Isn't going to bow down to Pitt or accept losing.
Watched him at Texas Tech you could see from day 1 he had "it" but I'll admit I had some concerns about how the NFL would play to his strengths or if they even would if Hue got his way.
I think they're a playoff team next year. Browns & Ravens will be so fun for a long time.
Good post & sums it up for me. Obviously we're out on certain prospects & it would be great to have the #1 at times we don't need it to win & have proven that for almost 20 years.Oh of course, but the degree of which it’s an advantage is highly debatable. Fun draft position point to ponder: BB has had a top-20 draft pick just four times in his tenure with the Patriots. Here are those four players:
Nate Solder
Jerod Mayo
Ty Warren
Richard Seymour
Yes coach is #1. McCarthy wouldn't be terrible but I'm not sure I'm going there. If the Browns add some more pieces on D and more help on the line they are absolutely a playoff team.
Now they need a good coach
I believe so.Are we still undefeated when Gilmore doesn’t allow a TD?
Love this article! Thanks for posting! The dude's awesome!
