Ex-Patriot Believes Rob Gronkowski Is ‘Weaker’ Because Of TB12 Method
You go into TB12, and you’re a tight end. You’re not a quarterback. That works for Brady — (Julian) Edelman does the TB12 Method also. But, (Edelman) is still in the weight room getting stronger,” Fauria, co-host of WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria,” said on the air this week, per WEEI.com. “He’s still got a lot of power in his legs. When guys hurt their backs, they don’t have the necessary strength around their hip joints and flexors.

“That’s why I’m not surprised his back went out. That’s why he gets called for holding. He can’t hold the point of attack as well as he used to. He doesn’t have the explosion. That’s why he catches the ball one yard behind the first-down marker, and can’t find his way out. I think he’s weaker. I think he’s less flexible.”

What do you guys think?

It's something impossible to prove, one way or another

In the end, the best guy to know these things is Gronk himself. If he feels better, then it probably is better.

Also, when did he join the TB12? I don't think it was this year, so i question if Fauria is arbitrally ignoring other years...

And, in conclusion: This is a HAWT TAKE

I would guess Gronk over compensated for his ankle and that is how he hurt his back plus the hard hits.

I do think he and Tom would be better off lifting though.
They could do it once a week.
The rubber bands concept doesn't excite me

I highly doubt Guerrero is using the exact same training for Gronkowski as with Brady. So many assumptions by people like Fauria who really don't know what happens behind the scenes. I am thinking, though, that eight years of getting smashed all over the field, roughly 7 seven major surgeries, and like three herniated disks in his back might be hurting Gronk more than his workout routine.

I didn't care much for what Fauria had to say when he played. I care less now.

Fauria is a blithering idiot who is often blatantly uninformed on the one thing you'd expect him to have actual insight into. We'd all be best to leave his ramblings to places other than this board.

Well Gronk is definitely not picking things up and putting them down.

Let's just hope he improves weekly - even if the team needs to rest him at times.
Media is all about creating controversy to gain attention
So I disregard most of the blathering now - ruins the enjoyment of the season IMO.

Fauria's talking out of his ass, and I expect he knows it. To try blaming Grok's back woes on TB12, when Gronk's had multiple back problems while doing it the old fashioned way, is either blatant trolling or record setting stupidity.

Actually I think he has a legitimate point. That doesn't mean he's correct, but it's a point worth debating.

Gronk did look like sh!t last week. WHY he looked that bad is the real question. I think at this point it is moot whether weights or bands are going to make a difference in this season. If your back is hurting, doing explosive squats is NOT going to be something you want to be doing.

So a better question would be if NOT doing the weight work is the reason his back hasn't been as healthy as last season. I find that hard to believe. I have never had any real back problems myself, thank God. But I HAVE entered into the age of old guy back soreness.

Over the past year I have lifted on a regular basis, mostly lighter weights at at least 20 reps. Though just for fun I found after killing myself for almost a year I can now bench 225 3 times. That being said, I still stay away from doing any squats for fear of my back soreness. Instead I use the machines and a light weight when I do leg work, though mostly I walk as my leg work.

The object of any resistance exercise is to fatigue the muscle to failure in an efficient manner. In an ideal world, if you finish your last set using 5lbs and struggle to get it up, then you truly have fatigued that muscle to failure and it will recover and be stronger with rest. Whether you use weights or bands doesn't really matter.

Most weight programs use different methods to fatigue a muscle group efficiently. Some use different motiions (Matrix Method). Some use bands. Some extol short reps/heavy weights for explosion, some don't think that is necessary. Personally I don't know.

Back when I lifted for football everything was 10-12 reps and all we cared about was being able to bench press 300 once. ;)

So while, Fauria can be a typical media "hot taker" on occasion; on THIS particular issue I think he made a point that is worth debating, even though if pushed, I'd likely come in on the other side.

That's fauria. He can eat tomato if he wants. It's his opinion. Sounds stupid though when he surmises weight training caused a holding call.

All the whining about gronk is mostly stupid also since he's had some mediocre games. It happens. This team has lots of options on offense. As long as he's on the field he helps. .. not worried.

Im guessing that he has no idea what Gronk is doing for workouts so this is all basically just garbage.

I know doctors recommend that you lift a lot of weights when your back is acting up.

If I remember correctly, Gronk started flirting with the TB12 method (or working with AG) last offseason. Gronk looked good last year IMO. He may be a meathead, but one thing most meatheads are really good at is knowing what is and isn’t working for their body. Sometimes it’s just the case that the body can’t take it like it used to. If that’s the case, working with Moses or AG won’t make much of a difference.

Fauria would have been better off being quiet after he retired lol. My opinion of him lowers every time he opens his mouth.

He is actually 3 lbs heavier this year so if he really went all in on the diet and bands/pliability thing I would assume there would be some weight loss. I think it is just a combination of age and multiple injuries. Sad to see as he is my second favorite Patriot ever and I refuse to give up that small glimmer of hope that it is all over. In the mean time I will just watch old Gronk highlights while a single tear rolls down my cheek.

Hey... do you guys remember when Fauria used to play for the Pats? I think he casually mentions it every other word.
