Wtf happened with Brissett deal?

I’m not talking about what you hope I’m taking about the player and how he played.
He is inaccurate, doesn’t read defenses particularly well, and struggles to make positive plays and sustain drives.
Comparing him to Brady is ludicrous.

I mean I can argue that Jordan Richards is going to become a great safety because Belichick and McCourty taught him how, but that would be dumb.

That would be dumb so don't do it...

It's also dumb to swap positions in an argument like QB is similar to any other position on an NFL football field. But mostly.. stats tell only part of the story (your part) . The other part is looking at what makes a QB successful . Size, mobility, poise, accuracy, avoiding mistakes, intelligence. When you do this, you can project different stats in different system. As I've said. We shall see.

Brissett is not an NFL starting-caliber quarterback and has a limited skill set with flawed mechanics that won't change. If his career lasts as long as Hoyer's I'll be surprised.

But when you look at those things you see a guy who is not accurate, who doesn’t make good decisions, who plays his worst when it matters most (see above examples and his 4th quarter #s are 55% complete and a 63 passer rating) He had 1 4th quarter TD pass all season and his offense scored 2 4th quarter tds total in his 15 games. (And he threw 137 4th quarter passes his most of any quarter so the stupid tanking argument does not apply).
You have a big guy with decent mobility who doesn’t read defenses well, throw accurately or make plays when it matters.
That is 2017 Jacoby Brisset and people are trying to say he wad better than 14-18 teams QBs. It’s ludicrous.

People like making fun of Hoyer but he has been among the most successful second string QBs in the league for a long time. He has had a better career than many early picks in the last 10 years.

What was your expectations of Brissett going to the Colts and starting every game? How many games should he have won, how many yards and TDs should he have thrown for?
I think 4 wins was a reasonable expectation at the time, but it’s disappointing in hindsight because nobody expected the Colts to have four games against teams that were so unbelievably awful at the time of their games against the Colts. The Browns (0-16), 49ers without Garoppolo (1-10), and Texans without Watson (1-8) combined for a record of 2-34. Those were the only teams that Brissett’s Colts could beat.

Comprehensive post but I still like Brissett. I watched most of his game last week. Game manager..! Underwhelming but conservative. Lots of check downs. Some nice throws.

Great how he shed sacks a couple times. Overall average numbers but you really need to see him run a real offense. Not sure how good he can process the entire thing. The question in his second year is can he build on the good aspects into a better QB that wins games.. (kinda like JG did..?) Hmm...

Stop it. From the day JG entered the league he had that extreme quick release and the ability to be accurate. Brissett has neither of those things and they aren't things you just pick up with experience. It means completely rebuilding your mechanics.

He was doing great in Cleveland before getting hurt. And he wasn't all that terrible in 'Frisco considering his poor supporting cast. The guy sure has bounced around a lot. In his defense he always has been called upon in difficult situations.

I agree.

Obviously everything needs to be kept in perspective but among the second stringers he is a good choice. Many might say how much worse than JG he looks, but from everything we know so far JG seems to be on a trajectory towards being a true starter and not a backup.

A good way to look at this will be to evaluate Andrew Luck's performance for this team. He kinda sucked last week. Does luck suck too? Or does the team and coaches around him suck. If luck starts for this team will he have winning record? Just curious what the projections are since that seems relevant... . Remember we're talking about year 1 for Brissett. Year 1 QBs usually suck. What you want is a guy who stays healthy and hangs in there. Gaining confidence. Keep the expectations low cowboy... Lol.

Huh?
I’m talking about how he played. What does lucks play in a preseason quarter have to do with it?
I don’t grade on an excuse scale like year 1 means sucking doesnt suck.
QBs on poor teams that are good play well even if it’s not well enough to win a lot.
Brissett didn’t. Brissett was as much the reason they were bad as anything ever.
With him at QB, they were 30th in putting points on the board, in 15 games he led them to a total of 2 4th quarter TDs, and list a game on a4th quarter pick six.

Other than giving excuses about why he sucked, perhaps you can try to explain what he did well because your comments about that failed.

I remember that over time pick against a good Arizona team. That game he was managing well with chance to win. Figured he would learn from that. Didn't see many games all year and I suspect you didn't either since your analysis is all about stats. It was obvious the team tanked later in the season .

But they are 0-0 now. I watched them last week.. Luck is completely relevant since he is known commodity right? Follow along here.. if Luck sucks with this team you can't conclude Brissett sucks .. you need more data.. more reps more video on the guy. That's what I'm saying.. you're flipping the switch based on stats right? Um ... not conclusive yet ... But I will give you credit if he's bounced from the league next year..

No. I am not basing it on stats. I am basing it on play.

I’m assuming Brissett was traded because BB had no intention of trading JG and didn’t realize he would be undermined by the owner a few weeks later. In retrospect it looks like a disaster, because while Brissett is no NFL starter, he’s much better than Hoyer.

Luck's shoulder seems to be overcooked spaghetti at this point so I'm not expecting much.

Colts playing 49ers today . Wonder if pats fans should watch that game..

I'm amazed this thread has gone on so long over a 3rd string qb. Why?
1. Due to a trade down the road
2. Develop into the starting qb for the Patriots after Brady retires
3. He's a better back-up to Hoyer ( neither qb brings the Patriots to the promised land if Brady is injured, thus, who cares).

Um... Based on the endless angst over trading away 2 upside QB s in the same season maybe..? Maybe I should rephrase. ... " Wonder if second guessing pats fans should watch this game." Since there will be many moments where both QB s will look really good imo...

I think the thread should be renamed "woulda, shoulda, could thread" for fans who enjoy monitoring the aftermath outcome of trades. I think it's a curiosity at least to see how right or wrong a trade works out. Since A.. a trade requires predicting the future which is kinda hard... And B.. QB is kinda important position in NFL football. C.. it's not boring.
